bout time Paston got a proper backup,
seeing as Crowther's still out for a wee while.

So I think we should let go of Crowther.  I feel more comfortable with Ross Nicholson between the sticks.  Also, I was tipping Paston to start ahead of Vukovic but then realized that that was based solely on Paston being a Kiwi.  Vukovic should start - especially if Paston has a niggle.  The knitting circle would have more ammunition if that happened, though, with only Bertos, Lochhead, Brown, and maybe Sigmund being Kiwi's who'd play regularly for the side.

The more worked up they get the better my midweek geez at their forums gets.

looking like a similar situation to when we had moss. both keepers will have to perform and stay fit to keep thier spot, and we have quality back up when they dont.

if paston is 100% fit for friday then i think he should remain in goal, if not then i have no issue with danny being given the opportunity to stake his claim for a regular start.

Still think we should have got him on atleast a two year deal. Thought the club would have more business sense than that.

He just biding time until he has another crack at Europe.  I'm sure the club would have tried for two, but he's not going to sign for that.

Yeah I know that. But if you have a agreement saying that we'll let him go by mutual consent if no one comes in for him after a 6 week period and the end of the season. Or like a transfer clause saying he can leave if someone offers 100k or somthink.

Lets face it he was probly desperate to find a club after what happened and we could have played hardball a little.

We were probably thinking about the salary and that goal keeping isn't really a problem area for the future so a one year dear makes sense while injuries are lingering with the current goal keepers.

Ricki asked him to sign for 2 years but Vukovic slapped him on the palm and ran away in the opposite direction.

Well one is a coach, one is injured and one is a short term injury replacement.

criticise blame critique pontificate... OH wait, he hasn't played a game yet....
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I assume he will be number 40? Taking Reddys number.

to be honest i'm not totally sold on the idea of two goalkeepers competing with each other... good goalkeeping is about what you don't do as much as what you do.

I don't think fear is a good motivation to avoid making mistakes, the goalkeeping mind doesn't work that way.

the idea of 'motivation through competition' makes a lot more sense when you're talking about strikers, because in their position they have to be hungry to create something out of nothing.

But seeing as Vukovic is here, all the best to him, too much talent is never a bad problem to have.

I still rate Paston higher than Vukovic - has performed better at a higher level for a longer time + the last year has been amazing for him. However, if he has a niggle and Vukovic is fit then it might be the start of an interesting battle for the #1 GK spotvaleo2010-08-23 21:10:01

In regards to the Vukovic is a w**ker calls.

I think similar was said of Reddy when he arrived, arrogant, cock, all those sorts of things. He turned out to be a top guy and a fine stopper. Proved a lot of people wrong. I think Vukovic will be similar. It has something to do with the team spirit we have. Attending training you can tell everyone gets on with everyone well. The only exception I have seen is Johnny Chen. Our team has no room for w**kers. I think Vukovic will fit in nicely here, much like Reddy did. And you only have to look as far as Reddys form which has been quite a long way below his Nix form.

I wonder how much having John Gould on the coaching staff plays in the signings of these keepers knowing they are going to get coached by a former keeper? Rumour has it John knows a little bit about standing between the sticks.

Looking only at club level I'd say Vukovic has a better history than Paston, despite serving a hefty ban and having played for many years less.

True. I thought all of those things about Reddy. Fact is though he was prone to weird onfield tantrums, not to mention colossal, comical blunders in his Qld days. His outstanding form and all round professionalism for the Nix was a pleasant surprise to me. btw, I don't think he's done too much wrong so far for Sydney.

I'm sure Vukovic will settle in well. He is a big, confident, commanding keeper with excellent reactions and doesn't generally make the kind of mistakes that make your heart sink. I can only remember one bad one last season when he fumbled a near post free kick into his own net - other than that he was very good.

He's fumbled a few near-post free kicks into his own net - they highlighted it on Fox Sports FC one time. Seems like a weakness for him.

In saying that, Paston doesn't inspire confidence when the opposition lines up for a FK either

not sure, paston is 1, crowther 20. not sure what numbers gould and mcmaster have but am assuming 30 and 40? which would leave vukovic with 50? as i said not completly sure though.

In saying that, Paston doesn't inspire confidence when the opposition lines up for a FK either, or when :

the opposition take a corner
the opposition whip in a cross
the opposition shoot
the opposition shoot wide
He takes goal kicks
He has the ball in his hands
when he walks out the farken tunnel.

fixed.
