I think its time to put things into perspective.  As a football supporter of 30 years I had the pleasure yesterday to take my son to his first soccer game (he is 3 and a half).  He loved the clapping, the shouting, the band and he occasionally watched the football.  But taking him there got me thinking, while it would have been great for him to see the Phoenix win, wasn't yesterday perhaps a more realistic representation of what it is like to be a football fan i.e. 99% frustration/disappointment/boredom and 1% absolute ecstasy.  And it made me wonder how long until he sees his football team win a title.

So my question to all of you is as a supporter of a team(s) how long have you had to wait for a title or cup of any kind.  I'll begin with

England 41 years and counting
Arsenal 18 years between 1971 and 1989 for a league title.
All Blacks 20 years and counting!

The Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur fans will be coming out of the woodwork in droves!

In these money-fuelled days of the Premier League it is hard to believe, but for those of us supporting at the time it was all too real- Manchester United: 26 years for a title (1967-1993).

What else could he have done?

Partick Thistle FC (founded 1876):

Scottish Cup winners 1921, Runners-up 1930
Scottish League Cup Winners 1971
SFL Div 1 winners 1975/76 and 2001/02
SFL Div 2 winners 2000/01
SFL 2nd Division Play-Off Winners 2006

...and that's just about it!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

"Being a Partick Thistle fan sets you apart. It means youre a free thinker. It also means your team has no money." Tim Luckhurst, The Independent, 4th December 2003

England I've been waiting 40 years for and is the one I'm most desperate to see win.

Brighton took until I was 34 to win something - the title of what is now called League Two for their first trophy in 36 years. They followed it up when I was 35 with the League One title. Then when I was 37, they won the League One Playoffs.

Losing hurts more than winning feels good. You can't appreciate the win until you've earnt it through years of hurt (you can tell I'm English, eh!)... but when it comes
