I know it's probably too early but any news on pre-season matches? I am not referring to the pre-season cup, so really I mean pre pre-season if that makes sense.
Last year there was a planned trip to China before the Chinese government decided to limit all non-Olympics activities, I guess with Sony no longer onboard warm up matches will be close to home.

I also think the Chinese tour didn't go ahead because of that earthquake they had, and they organized that fundraising match at Newtown Park against a Chinese invitation team.

Any other news on pre-season games?
I see that Fulham and Wolves are coming down - I understand that Tony P has crunched the numbers and they don't stack up bringing them here. My only concern is that so far we have two games against A-League sides as they only serious build-up for the season.
No disrespect to Welly sides, but if the Nix 2nd team can put 6 past Waitakere, I'm not holding out for any serious challenge to the Nix.

The preseason looks all a little low key. There will be plenty of games for the players but sweet FA for the home fans. Looks like a tour of China.....plus two games against other A-League sides. But not at the ROF.
There is a danger in having such a quiet preseason....especially for the fans. With the long off season the phoenix are well off the sporting radar. If there is no hype or buzz building up to the start of the season then how do they expect to drag in the crowds.
Last season we had the preseason cup final to generate some publicity. Us diehards will always be there but i'm not sure about the casual sporting fans.

Fine we have not realeased detail Hard News, but most teams have and they seem alot more exciting than our fixtures, two potential games in China as opposed to facing two premier league clubs etc.
I think a good pre season is absolutely vital in hitting the ground running for the first rounds. Playing nzfc sides hardly compares and will leave us short of the level we will be facing.
Hopefully the nix announce something soon. Like Zini says, we want to build up a buzz, hard to do when you play amatuers and overseas.

Would be nice to see premier league clubs, but it's more important to get the team working together and understanding each other in pre season rather than who we are playing, do you guys not think we are better to play sides around or below our ability where the guys can gel together rather than hosting a far better team to get the crowd in but not having much effect on getting the guys working as a unit or increasing morale?

I am not sure that playing a premiership club on its end of season jolly will be really that benefical to these other teams. Great for the fans, but playing a game against some players who really don't give a fcuk (and will probably stink of booze) can't offer much.

There needs to be a balance between the players getting fit and ready for the season, but also you want some sort of buzz before the season, Seeing in the papers the Nix starting to get some sort of coverage but maybe just because I'm looking for it. If the All Whites do well in the Confeds cup could boost intrest a bit.
