But Ok, will work on my prose.

There were quite a few football related thoughts I put out there in that post.  If you have any words you'd actually like to say about those, I'd be happy to hear them.

Otherwise, I've rambled about football, and you've had nothing to say ...

judged on results?  yeh, you're right and he may prove me wrong, but he'll only be judged by the fans.  As Tegal seems not to have the wit or patience to pick up - one of the points is he has a long term contract with no performance requirements, so he keeps his job and NZF-on-the-side-perk-work regardless

hopefully once the board gets a few more football types involved Ricki won't have it all his own way

I would not expect much to change until the off season. A new CEO will be appointed who will hopefully bring a new perspective and take some of the load off Rickie.

I kind of agree with you but I also have huge respect for how far he has managed to get the Nix this season. Sure, he is in a powerful position, but he has inherited a mess and done a great job getting through it. He is a capable guy but he has way too much on his plate IMO....he is basically the only "football guy" at the Club. It is hard enough to be head coach but he is doing it solo. Plus he is taking on all the AW and Olympic stuff. Its crazy for one guy to do all that and its impossible for one person to do all these jobs properly.( he should have said no to the Olympic gig)

So I for one will cut him some slack for being a bit one eyed toward some of his players. He does lack perspective when it comes to recruitment and selections but he's the boss and its his call.

My greatest concern for the club is this off season is absolutely vital for our future. We have to make some very important appointments off field. We also need to do some smart recruiting to refresh an aging squad. For me its absolutely critical that Rickie gives these jobs his  100% attention. Its hard to imagine this happing with all these other distractions going on.

Well if Ricki wants to be consistent then he has to, otherwise it might "disturb the squad"

Pretty much agree with (all of) that post - including the positives I've not repeated above.  The only thing I'd re-emphasise is the intention to get some football nouse on the Board, and how well that complements Ricki, will be important, as will be getting a good assistant coach who can at least give Ricki some different ideas.

Just all seems a bit too cosy and one man band at the moment, though understandably so.

"Lacks perspective when it comes to recruitment" is a pretty significant limitation to try and compensate for somehow within the club.  Especially if Ricki sees it differently.

In reality is the January window the right time to be making long term signings. At this stage the only players available are those who are off contract. Not exactly the cream. Most A league contracts will run to the end of the season in April and northern hemisphire to June.                    At this stage shouldn`t we be trying to secure contracts with the players in the squad we want to retain. (Which we are).                                                                                                               What if Manny doesn`t re-sign? If that happened it would have a significant impact on the players we look out. I`m sure Ricki and the club are well aware of the players of interest who will be available at the end of the season. These players should be our target.                             Wouldn`t it be nice to have a full 23 man squad come the 1st of July.                                       Short term pain for long term gain.

You have to ask that with no Nathan in the office, who actually handles all the contract stuff etc? Not Ricki surely... I only ask because Muscat and Smith etc....

More than likely corporate people seconded from the various firms of the owners will be assisting in the interim. I believe that was the case when the Welnix consortium took over and may still be the case until a New CEO and others are officially appointed.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Nathan is still on board until 20.1.12 IIRC.

OUTSPOKEN veteran Kasey Wehrman may have played his last game for the Newcastle Jets.

Jets officials and Wehrman declined to comment yesterday but the Newcastle Herald understands behind-the-scenes negotiations were continuing last night aimed at trading the 34-year-old for a player, or players, from a rival A-League club.

Not Pav, he has recently been showing signs of coming good (Perth game excepted).

Looks to have some skills, and is a physical presence. Hard to say definatively but seems to offer more than Dakota Lucas.

Let me tell you, Zucco CAN play.......but as was suggested earlier, he needs to growup in so many ways....personally, if you get him right, he will be the signing of the decade!

The IPL (Illawarra Premier League), has the like of Noel Spencer, Alvin Ceccoli, Chris Jackson, Mitchell Blowes, Dez Giraldi, Michael Santalab (player-coach), Sam Munro, and alot better, younger players who dont/cant travel to Sydney to play on a regular basis.

Coaches of note are Adrian Alston, John Fleming, Peter Beggs, Norm Boardman & Stuart Beedie. Standard is varied with current champions Dandaloo probably a top 5 State League team, to Olympic (finished just above the relegation zone), probably a div3 State League side.

The big difference is that it is limited in training, thus the commitment....yet the cash is still there!

State League teams are semi-pro, but train 3-4 times a week + games. IPL sides train twice a week, with a game Saturday.

Kiwi keeper with seemingly good pedigree.

Or Imray?  One of the very best in the country, has made the bench for Nix before, seems to be getting consistently better, and would surely qualify as a kiwi (he's lived in NZ at least 10years). Thoughts?

to players i think are worth a look who are struggling big time overseas are nathan burns of AEK isnt getting any time on the pitch, and when he played for Adelaide haw handy.

and robbie kruse, of some german team, now i wasnt the biggest fan of this kid when he was at the roar or melbs, but i could well be if he was leading the line for us.

There is a reason the Siggy elbowed him in the face, and that is because he is a complete Twit. Please please please never have him in a Phoenix jersey.

Yip he came over here before he signed for Melbin, effectively chose them over us as I think we may have even offered him a youth marquee spot (May have made that up).

However there is a large group (excuse pun) of people on here who would rather the wooden spoon than him playing for us

We tried to sign him as our youth marquee, but he refused. Apparently he was frightened off by a series of envelopes containing threatening letters and Krispy Kreme donut crumbs...

latest on stuff - again it looks like nothing this window, but they are working on that long term plan.  Ah well, dissapointed with that but if they can sign Dirty Sanchez and Manny this week, that's good.

"Morrison hailed the retention of skipper Andrew Durante on a new three-year deal as "fantastic" news for the club and signalled a "couple more announcements to make in the next couple of days".

The Phoenix are close to sealing a new deal with right back Manny Muscat, who has developed into one of the best and most consistent defensive players in the league.Negotiations with off-contract Spanish midfielder Dani Sanchez and his agent are also under way.

The Phoenix also have the option to sign players in the January transfer window, but Morrison made it clear they weren't frantically scouring the globe.

"It's not like we are under pressure, if someone was really good out there obviously we'd look at them but we're not under pressure because there happens to be a window open. Our planning is very much about how we strengthen the squad over the next two or three years."

I see that one of Auckland's latino's...Andreu Guerao has gone to play pro football in Europe( 1st Div Georgian side) Georgia is C Div in Europe so its not a high level.
Guero has an interesting pedigree. 41  games for Sporting Gijon including a handful when they were in Div 1 Spain, then 34 games for Warsaw in Polish Div 1. So he has had a background at a higher level than A-League.
I am not saying we should have signed him for the Nix coz it wouldn't/could'nt happen. But did anyone see and rate him when he played in the Premiership? You would think he might be better than our current holding DM's.

Any other of the Auckland latinos worth a look in the off season? I would be happy to see some more Dani Sanchez's at the club.

Thought he was class at ASB Championship level, always seemed to have a lot of time when on the ball. A little light weight thou, those Aussie Pitbulls would give him a hard time.
