How's the back @JBrindellSouth ? Heard an ambulance showed up to the game for you? I hope it's not to bad - been in good form mate. |

@kiwibardy thanks mate I just dislocated my shoulder that's all |
16 fewer games missed through injury than last year.
still can't believe how out of hand that injury crisis got. That is one steep line. Maybe what Ernie is trying to avoid this time around with talk of resting players.
I have never been a proponent of rest for the sake of rest because I believe you play your best team every week. That view is more increasingly at odds with modern sports with the probably exception of rugby league where the Warriors start their best/fittest/in form every week. I guess that's what happens when you are a dinosaur in a modern age. I guess I find the current Black Caps attitude refreshing in that they will play their best XI for every game.
That being said, there has been mention of Burns, Durante, McGlinchey and Roly as carrying knocks in the last wee while. The sacrifice of a loss here knowing we will be in the playoffs vs one of those players breaking down right before or during the playoffs..... If they need a week or 2 now to get themselves right and I guess avoid a prick of a long trip to Perth, I call that smart. Its not rotation for the sake of it but rotating injured players out. They are not 'fully injured' but not tip top either. Something about forest for the trees etc...

Trending towards half as much this time around.
I know its prob not relevant BUT the increase last year seems to start to kick in right around when the Asian cup this year took place. Could be a contributing factor for this season?
It would be interesting to see the rest of the league and the influence of Asian cup break. I know they don't want to have a break for TV reasons but it might be in the best interests of player welfare given the small squad sizes. I would suggest coaches would echo Ernie's comments on the break. Injury replacements can be so hit and miss.

Think it was on the poddy that lined how the nix work closely with physios and use sport science to individually control workloads for training during the week etc. Think that is the way to do it.
Think any talk of rest for games may be to manage any niggling injuries. Though am not against resting a player from games if they do need it, you would have to question if their training work load if it does happen.
Perth are some of the biggest hackers in the league too.
I see from this link there is talk that Fenton could be out for five months "After the game Merrick said he could be out for five months, but the scans will reveal the full extent of the damage and a timeline for his recovery."
Poor b@stard if he misses out games again because of his shoulder.

Has something else been said, I really hope for him it is the shorter period he is out if at all
Yeah elsewhere Ernie said it could be a couple of weeks or it could be five or six months.
Any updates on A-Rod? Didn't play yesterday but thought someone said they saw him around?
Any news on Fenton?
Just from his twitter - he said the initial news was good.
Patrick reported seeing him at Nix training today and he was participating so all sounds good.
It's rather concerning to see that his shoulder continues to give him problems though. Really hope he can sort it once and for all and be injury free from there on.
Fenton is actually one of our most important players because we don't really have other wing backs who are attacking threats.
Yeah, he's one of the players that the team relies on. Which is worrying because of his injury history. Not to mention that he's a good utility player. Can play up front, in the middle, etc.

Interesting; we were pretty lucky with injuries last year in comparison to other teams. We had the lowest injury rate in the league, which obviously contributed greatly to our run.
With Siggy, Dura and the like a year older - lets hope injuries don't start hitting us hard. We've already seen in pre-season that Fenton, A-Rod and Siggy have developed niggles.
With a smaller squad and less depth this season, we'll need to keep a similar injury record to last season to have a shot.
Listen to #PhoenixCity for a little whisper from one my sauces at the Nix re. the currently fitness levels of the squad...

Any news on Siggie?
Post game, Piney said Fenton had hurt his ankle ligaments. Any more news this morning?
Rufer carried off for Weenix. Didn't look good at all.

Horrible, horrible news. He has been developing so well lately too. I knew it was bad when he immediately began waving the trainers on... but man he did well to hop 15 metres towards the bench before goig back down to the turf! Tib and Fib - he must have been in sooooo much pain!
like his attitude
Siggy out for the season? Redone his hammy today I believe.
8 weeks apparently.
Krishna now out for 3 months with serious ankle injury.
Fudgeing hell
His season over. Poor guy, has really come on in leaps and bound. Powell should be a fixture unless the club get a short term fix.
Well, we're fudgeed
