We Are Football Sticker Campaign

A week ago on 442 (yes, 442) an idea was coined by girtXc to use the We Are Football brand that's the slogan for the A-League this season, and mass produce stickers to distribute and display around our respective cities to unite football fans and let them know that the A-League is here.

So far over $1805 have been raised amoung forumers alone to pay for the fan made production of these stickers, which is going to commence soon. On top of that, the FFA have jumped on board and are making 50,000 stickers of their own, 4,000 of which are going to be given out to each club.

So when these stickers arrive, who's keen to cover Wellington with me?! I've had enough of the RWC, time for FOOTBALL!

(Here's the link to the 442 thread, the OP is what's worth reading for any information, will post updates as I find them)

Cover hard news in these stickers and I'll put up some cash.

No need for cash (unless you want your own batch), just some interest in spreading them around Wellington. Prizes go to anyone who can stick one on the RWC trophy.

It's promoting the A-League, and therefore promoting the Phoenix.

That'd be great

Have no idea when they might arrive though unfortunately, all I know is they started printing them on Friday.

Up to 10 days before they arrive at the club I think. As for how the club will disperse them, I have no clue.

Nathan might have to walk door to door handing them out. Maybe get a series of buses if there is enough in petty cash.

I don't know what the rest of you think, but although getting one with a membership pack would be lovely, I'd much rather see them stuck up in bulk around the city, or handed out to new people to entice them to come along and experience the A-League.

err...it's the off season, people get by with a little immaturity here and there. We'll all go mental if we take everything (including stickers) seriously.

I realise that. The off season has been far too long, so I'm pretty keen to talk about/get involved in anything that has to do with football.

Not sure what a sticker campaign would do.  I'm no marketing expert, but joe bloggs isn't gonna know what 'we are football' means, let alone make them want to go see the nix.

As for football fans, still not sure why a sticker would compel them to head to the football.

But i'm probably just being miserable.

They aren't nix stickers.  They are black stickers that say 'we are football'.

Send Mrs. Greenacre around to my place with stickers please.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Agree.

And my 2 cents.
It would work better if it was part of a campaign and not the entire campaign. I don't see the A-League ad getting a lot of airtime on a range of channels over here however so why bother. You may get a few curious people, but not enough to warrant the effort I suspect. And it would be better to do the guerrilla marketing campaign for the nix not the A-League in general.

The idea of it is pretty much just to spread the word of the A-League around the public, get some attention to it as there really isn't much marketing etc in place. And the point is that people will want to find out what We Are Football is, and what all the stickers are doing there.

Pretty sure this is just the start of what this guy has planned, but yeah maybe you're right, it probably wouldn't work for New Zealand, especially with all the rugby going on anyway.

By the sounds of it everyone's going to get one sticker with their membership packs anyway, so you can stick those wherever the hell you want, and I'll make sure it's made known to the FFA not to waste their money with us.

NZ version: 'We are poofball'
Oz version: 'We are wogball'

I get the point, but like I said I think you will only get the few who are curious to find out more. By itself it is not enough of a marketing tool. If you had viral youtube clips as well, maybe. wearefootball.com.au I see redirects to the a-league site but how many kiwis are going to type .co.nz or .com instead (which don't go anywhere of use). I think something could work here, if the FFA were willing to put the money in to. At the very least $40 -ish for the wearefootball.co.nz domain.

There isn't going to be a .com.au or anything on the sticker, which is banking on the fact that people would just google it anyway.
This campaign in particular was going to be created by fans, organised by fans, and completely run by fans to show just how much we care about this league and want it to succeed. It's the fans that are the lifeblood of the clubs and the league as a whole, so why should we wait around for things to be organised for us? Some initiative to do things ourselves is being taken.
