Presumably because Ricki had them both put in a container and dropped in the middle of the Pacific.

He was good tonight. Good to finally have someone in the centre of the park who isn't invisible.

Whenever we had the ball,he was the only one running toward it making himself a passing option.
The rest either ran away looking for a long ball over the top or stood there hands on hips.

Allegedly

I thought he did OK too. Some nice pinpoint long passing. Think he should've been subbed with around 20 to go though.

Looked a bit uncertain, but he did a few nice passes.  Needs time IMO.

I thought he was better than most, not like that would be too hard. He needed to get further up the field, but with the dodgy defenders who were behind him I don't blame him for staying back.

Comfortable on both feet = asset.

Who else can use their wrong foot?
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

uncomfortable on both feet = hearfield

agree with whoever said he needs to get further forward.  but i think this is more of a case of the back four playing too deep and elliott adjusting accordingly

elliot does give us the ability to keep possession and switch play with reasonable accuracy (apart from one over Leo's head)

what we need is players to make runs 'knowing' that they have some one who can put the ball into their path from deep

needs a few matches (and a settled side) to fall into place

Ward could do well in tandem with Simon - esp if Elliot plays further up and brings Ward in with quicker-shorter passes

edit - well that's not going happen at perth then,

hhm maybe Nicky behaves badly on long trips (not sure why else you wouldn't take him)tigers2010-11-04 21:17:43

Our back four do play far to deep. they need to start playing higher, the other teams are happy to let them have it on the top of our 18 yard box - nothing will be achieved there. we need to squeeze the game on them and move the ball faster. brisbane taught us that.TopLeft072010-11-04 21:06:52

Yeah, I think the lad's got a lot of potential, too.

Played reasonably well tonight given that its only his second game for the team, showed composure and put in some good crosses

Quality, and I think he plays well with lia OR Brown not both. Drop Lia and bring in Ward. Elliott does what we have been so badly lacking, hold the ball and look to pass it round, his free kicks are dangerous, he still just lokoks a little rusty and not quite in step with the team, but that will come.

Thought he was really poor actually. Gave up the ball more than Brown, even. Slightly better than against Brisbane but only because Perth are kak. valeo2010-11-08 14:44:29

Have to say, I'm not much of a fan. What I saw against the Roar was pretty bad, from where I was sitting he gave away the ball too often and his touch was too heavy. Perth, better but not enough for me to feel comfortable about this signing.

But I'm not the manager/coach/selector...guy.

Two things:

1. You notice him giving the ball away because he actually has it at his feet for 5x as long as our former midfield throughout the game. This is a good thing, as it keeps us in possession and stops the dreaded long ball.

2. When he does lose it he tracks back, and doesn't stop until he wins the ball back or we turn the ball over, then he's back into space looking for the ball again. Greenacre is another who does this superbly and people like Ifill and Daniel should take notes.

I think the fact that he's playing with two invisible men (brown and lia) means he's finding a lot less options than he should have, hence the need to back pass, Ward is the key with Brown doing the thugging.

I'm not that fussed either way about him at the moment. His set pieces need some work.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
