What can Phoenix do to get the fans behind them?

Hi all, this is my first post to the site, but I've been reading the to's and fro's about how the A-league club will be better off in Wellington.
So my question is - what can the new club do differently from the Kingz/Knights to really get the supporters behind them in large numbers (or equally what great ideas from the old days could be kept?).
To me, the best chance the club has is if the fans feel sufficiently passionate to create a match day atmosphere that scares the help out of visiting sides, as sports teams here in Aus wouldn't know what to do if they played at a ground with real atmosphere...

First they needa win, however we will back our team no matter what and the biggest difference between this year and last year is the fact this year we have a decent team with like of australians such as aloisi and ferrante. This will get that baking of the fans no doubt, and i guarantee that wellington will get some great crowds! Chahoo bolos skefe!

I am originally an Aucklander. I am the first to admit that Wellington supporters are a lot more patriotic when it comes to supporting their city. I think they will get right behind the Phoenix.

This site proof of that.

If we build it, they will come...

They dont have to win all the time just not look like dicks and gettd owned everytime they step out onto a field.

I think mixed with entertaining football and wins here and there will bring the fans back. What we dont wanna do is lose, Mid-table should bring fans back for 2 years, then theyll start wanting more...

If the Phoenix play entertaining football and win games, then the crowds will come. If they have a good crowd who can create a good atmosphere, then more crowds will come. And the better the crowd, the better the team will play.

Having a decent number of Kiwis involved is going to help, it seems more authentic supporting a NZ team that has a decent number of Kiwis in it. A good start and maintaining a decent level of results will help too. Sorry I know very little about Wellington because I come from the other end of the Island, but I played in a National tournament down those ways when I was about 13 and it was probably the most enjoyable tournament I ever played in...except for the hail stones that caused one of our games to be abandoned! You don't see that up north very often. But all these dudes in Wellington seem to be getting right behind the team so surely that can only be a good thing.

The council can help our hugly. Have those banners in Courtnay/Lambton/Cuba with Phoenix logos on them. Get the city buzzing about it. You'd be surprised how many people will go if they know about it. Also, cheaper merchandise like $5 beenies/caps and scarves. Maybe have "YellowFever" days in shops around the city like the "Black Out" days for All Black tests. If the season starts with a huge YellowFever overload, people will ask questions and get to games.
Oh yeah, a few good results and some exciting football will also help.
GO THE 'NIX.

Its no longer a problem.

I like the idea of a Yellow Fever day! That would get the town buzzing, but I agree a win or two with some Brazilian flair would also create a buzz that the local press can get behind

Lots of Brazilian Girls would help....
Also get the players and game schedules on the radio (ZM etc) and have everyone talking about and bcoming familiar with the team.

Don't get me wrong I'm patriotic to the core, all Phoenix need to do is when to get the public interested.
1 Kiwi or 11 Kiwi's in the squad will not matter in the slighest in the eyes of the public if the team is winning, you will notice this factor is always brought up by the media when subsequent loses have occured, eg. Knights; Arrival of Dads army; Gemmil, Bazely, Emblem etc was not met with any disconcern until losses occured( and a negative 20 sumthin goal difference)
Like You say Wellington is a new environment
