Ok - so where do all our members want to enjoy a pint, have
some banter, and even let rip with a few chants on Phoenix game
day?
The draw is on the home page - starts with Sundays, then
Saturdays, then finishes with Fridays.
This realistically needs to be fairly close to the stadium-
other suggestions welcome if they are logical (ie dont suggest
rubbish)
A lot of these places don't normally open on Sunday - but we
can deal with that one later.
Try and make any responses educated.

Occi has more merit than the dingy Dog and Bone. Never head of the
Ferrymans - where the hell is that? Still like the Thistle.
OCCI.. dog and bone worst pub in Wellington.
It depends what you call close to the ground.
I think Lovelocks Bar in bond street. Real pints in their, and
reasonable prices. Large screens, TAB you name it.
It's only a 20 min walk to the Stadium.
What's the name of the bar actually in the railway station? -
that's within staggering distance of the Stadium and the trains;
not sure if it's got a big screen TV
Perhaps after 50 or so votes have been cast we can kill the 2 least polling results and put up a revised poll to vote between the 'favourites'?
Guys
Another suggestion which the Wellington Rugby football club
uses as there supporters club headquarters is the bar in the
Backpackers across the road from the stadium.
great location to the stadium and prices and
already set up as a supporters club headquarters. ie team
memrobillia etc on display around the walls
just another idea
The Station Village on the way in and than again on the way home.
We dont all live in Town.
A dog with a bone :)
Stop your whining... it doesn't even get trains at the weekend.

the bar is called Tracks - it is not as nice as the Thistle
and it isn't as close to the Stadium either.

Yes, the bar in the Station is a dive. Tacky floor and beer
stained carpet, a Rugby style bar.
The thistle is a classic Inn with a long history,
perfect for footy fans.
The Black Harp in Featherston street is a canny place for a good
pint.
Lots of 'indoor/outdoor flow' aswell. Big screen TV too

Does the Thistle do Guiness, cos i'll be drinking in
Tracks on me own, if it don't, ain't that just typical "No One Like
Us"

Not sure - I was drinking Montieths Original last time I was in
there.
If there are enough people any pub will open on any day, but the
Thistle does open on a Sunday but with usually 5 people in it and
won't stay open without numbers, i don't think it does Guiness
could be wrong though, I work round the corner and could easily
find out. Do any of the boys want to meet up for a pre-season pint
to make plans, have a laugh etc? Mabey a weekend for the out-of
-towners?
Steff
We ara peeple!!!
As per above, are YF going to arrange a pre-season drinks hour at a WGTN pub (preferably one fo the pubs mentioned in this thread) so we can start meeting each other and get organsied? . .
How's about Saturday Night, June 23rd at the Thislte?
? Any taker, any other suggestions?
We could even invite the team/ players along for a "meet the
fans - meet the players" type deal . . .
phil_style2007-05-01 08:14:19
yep. I'll sort it out. We might have to wait till we have
some players to meet though...
I reckon too, that quite a few of you will be watching the
Champions League final at the Dog and Bone. Just wear a yellow
carnation so we know who the fever supporters are.

Trax Bar at the railway station would be perfect
i like the thistle but prefer Black harp or dog and bone, im
boycotting occidental due to there preference of messing us about
wiv champions league semi and preference of showing cricket and i
think it was only the aussie v sa game anyway, especially since
weve been goin in there for early mornin footy matches for a few
years now, Thai the bar manager used to open the doors early in
some instances.
Dog and bone were very accomodating last week and ill be there
again tommorow, tho maybe not wiv a yellow carnation.
Somewhere that sells good beer too.. Not only cheap beer.
Price not an issue... I don't drink that much, work for a living,
and my wife doesn't nag me.
Never been to the Thistle, but handy to the stadium. I'll vote
for that one for now and take your word for it. I'll try and get
down there check it out.
Is is possible to revise the options a do another poll now that
there are two or three clear favourites emerging?

One of which is Tracks
cos
it's cheaper than the city, close to the ground, sells beer not
Monc's and is ideal for fans coming in on trains & buses.

makes no sense to do that when the Thistle has such a huge
majority.....
Looks like a good start - did they parade the players out in the
new shirts??
they will have to make some shirts first

Hey, since it looks like we've got a winner, does someone from YF
want to approach the bar management and see if they'll do any deals
for us such as:
- Happy hours or discounts
- private functions (i.e. the pre-season get together)

Thistle seems like a perfect venue for a bit of pre game
banter. Roll on August

Thistle is good, other options: Backbencher? Speights Ale House?
Happy with the consensus though - looks like Thistle it
is...They also sell Tallies as well - genius...
As mentioned before, Lovelocks in Bond St. $6 Jugs on a Saturday,
and full 560 ml pints.
I am sure that the manager could do us a good deal, if we make
it the headquarters.
It's only 20 min walk, and taxi rank out side for the
stragglers.
Imagine 100+ supporters leaving, walking down Willis St and
Featherston St to the ground (police escort anyone)
Aye but the Kilkenny is a canny pint in the black harp and I think
they do Guiness too

This would actually be really good. . . . We don't really get
this sigth in New Zealand, everyone normamly turns up in ones and
twos. I'd happily change by vote if it resulted in a "match parade"
like this. The length of Featherston street would be idea, or we
could even make the walk down Jervois Quay in full view of the
city's traffic!!

phil_style2007-05-02 08:23:11

Yip lovelocks would be an ideal venue and the parade would be great
as well. Keen for any where me markE2007-05-02 09:50:59
