Im predicting alot of people new to these forums have never supported a football team for a long time (10+ years). The result tonight (even though im posting this at half time) isnt really that important in the scheme of things. Its a new team, new methods, new coachs. Its going to take time for the team to get fully cohesive. So think about the long term before everyone starts saying players need to go, or coachs need to get fired. Have a little faith.

I've supported a football team for nearly 40 years. Part of the fun is having a right good moan when things aren't going well. I'll still be at the Stadium screaming my lungs out for them next week, no matter what happens.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Ive never said players need to go or get fired? Dont think ive seen anyone really say that.

Am just stating as to how the game is going at the moment...which is rubbish. Am not saying we have a terrible side, far from it.

Though most New Zealanders only support a winning team, and unfortunately we will be compared to the knights after this, and it will most probably severely dent our attendance next week, due to negative media influence (ahead of the rugby world cup)...

I've always thought that mid season was more important in terms of where we finish. The start of the season was important to retain supporters that are curious.

We don't have 10 let alone 40 years to get this right OK, this is NZ! they will be crucified both here and aus like the knights if this continues, hope they bring it in the second...

I don't think itll be quite tha bad Rocky. We do have a good setup etc,and a great fan base (at least 2500 signed up to yellowfever). Plus our side has a lot of kiwi players in it, which is something people should be proud of.

Cleberson was a bit iffy in the first half in Wellington and I think he was again tonight.

Second half we've looked much better.

I'm an expert, 32 years of following QPR and I can tell in advance what's not working.

This IS a good team but less 50 yard passes, more short passing, adopt a shoot on sight policy and don't let Robby Slater anywhere a microphone again!

I know what you're saying ubergunner, but I'd be a lot more worried if we all logged on here after losing 3 - 0 and didn't give a toss about it. If you're passionate about your football, you will be pissed off when you lose and have a right good whine. No bad thing, as long as we keep things in perspective. We're only 2 games in. This team's got potential and considering how quickly everything's been put together, I reckon we're doing alright. (That positive enough for ya )

Unfortunatly. He's still insisting that this is a New Zealand team and not a Wellington team. I sent fox an e-mail complaining!

Look, I think the Mariners are one of the title contenders. We'd be happy with 6th (well I would anyway). The stats make for positive reading... it's the shots on goal and the actual goals that are not. To me, that suggests we'll come right. The right back position in the first half was awful and played a part in all three goals - so at least the main problem is self contained.

I heard him call us New Zealand at one point, which is relatively forgiveable, but could someone tell me whether or not I was hearing things earlier when I could swear he called us the Knights at one point? (I think either before kickoff of a few minutes into the match)

And I'm new to both the sport and the team, but i'm still gonna see every game I can, no matter the score. A loss just increases the stakes, especially this early on in the season. The taste for redemption has me excited for the 9th.

You cant expect a team thats only played together a handful of time to be world beaters from the start, it takes time for a team to really know how to play together and know how easch other plays, theres alot more to come for the Phoenix side, so keep your eyes peeled.

Too right Jimmy!  Well put.  New team, so we are going to take time to develop The Mariners have the benefit of 40+ games in the A League, our team has had the benefit of 1 A league game going into this encounter.  Its not rocket science, of course the Mariners have the upper hand even before kick off. Playing on home dirt, good crowd behind them.

I'm sure our lads will be as sick as parrotts at the result, not to mention Ricki and the management team.  As loyal supporters we need to stay the course as they say in the good old US of A!!!!!!!!
Make judgements at the end of the season cos its way too early now!

Sater is a knob, hates  having WP in the league...used to think Andy Harper was bad but now thinking he would be better than slater.

Not a graet start to the game and pretty p****d at halftime, but they fought back well in the second half and played some nice football(only cause CCM has relaxed according to Slater), the team will be filthy withthem selves and i think you see that when they talked to Ross at the end.

Our day will come and I am pretty sure it will be against the Jets next Sunday

Early days yet for a young team ,it is the newest show in town and you will get  a lot of fair weather fans, people are fickle and prone to fads and instant gratification nowadays. Not sure how you define what a true football fan  actually is but i reckon that an ability to absorb the pain as well as the pleasure and a blind belief that glory is just round the corner is a start.
So far this team has done remarkably well if you take  in the pre season tournament games as well,  a 3-0 defeat by the league leaders away from home is not the end of  the world and may actually benefit the team after the euphoria of last Sunday by bringing them back down to earth (that goes for the fans as well)
The defense is going to have to tighten up significantly they are very slow out the traps ,we cant be a 45 minute team Clebo dosent seem to wake up until about the 40th minute ,a great deal more controlled urgency from the start from the whole team would be good to see.
Anyway roll on next Sunday and lets make some noise and get the team fired up right from the start!!

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

Yeah he called the nix a New Zealand team quite abit and I also heard him call them the Knights or the Kings towards the start.

I sent a complaint e-mail to :D

Performed like the Knights did. We seem to wait til we go 2 or 3 goals behind before we start playing. This team will not be the Knights, but they will be no Melbourne either. Its all about supporting a team no matter what - if we finish last with5 points you still support the team. Thats what support is all about.

Spoken like a true Hearts fan  Being a Brighton fan (and English) myself, I have to agree with the sentiment.  What's that quote: "losing hurts more than winning feels good."

Pain is a necessary part of being a fan, it is going through the pain that makes the pleasure addictive when it comes.

Tighten the defence.... Kiwi Jambo for right back!

Thought we showed signs of promise in the attacking third throughout, and after such a bad start (again!) I was impressed by how the lads didn't let their heads go down and were still fighting right to the finish (whether the Mariners had stopped trying or not! ).

The Jets will be paying for this result next week - the players will be well up for it and so will the fans -  they're going to get a pasting!!  Go Go the Nix!
