Hi All.

This is just a personel reflection on the 1st season of the mighty Phoenix.

But back then, when history was made against Melbourne, and we came from behind to nearly snatch an unlikley win, that the 1st season would of brought so much joy. The sucess will come soon, but from this follower, I would like to say how wonderful the team has been. Forget the "indifferent" results, the club, its management, players and above all US the fans have transformed a game that was on the verge of becoming extict in this country, back to its promient place as one the major sports in this country.

I would like to take this chance to thank Terry for making this happen, without him none of this would of come off, and prof football would of been totally lost to Townsville, and if that would of happened. Who knows how many years it could of taken to recover.

And then, after breaking two attendance records with the Melbourne and the Adelaide games, then we had a real treat with all the glitz and glamour of Golden Balls playing the full 90 here in Wellington, as a game to the real fans, it didnt mean much more than a kick around. But to the majority of the crowd, it was like bringing Hollywood to Wellington again. A scene not seen since the Lord of The Rings premiere.

The players who have stood out this home season, are Moss, Lochead, Daniel, Felipe and Smeltz. Moss has been a revaltion in the goal. He has been the real standout keeper in the league, and Lochead, great control, and believe me, when he plays well the rest of the team looked controlled. Smeltz plays to his strenghts, Lets face it he isnt the most blinding over the 1st 20 yards. But he has pressence in and around the box, and he gets more than his fare share of goals. The 2 Brazilians give the team some real class. But saying sothing negative against them both, they do go down to easily for my liking.

Well, I guess I should finish here. But I would like to say that I have really enjoyed the inagural home season, and even though I will be off to sydney on Saturday. I will be back for a couple of home games next season, and if any of you are ever coming over to Sydney for an away game. Know this, there will be a friendly face of Arsenal/Phoenix, and a couch to crash on.

My e mail address is drg26@hotmail.com if any of you guys are in town.

Ciao for now, and see you in the Back Bencher for a drink before Friday Night Football.

It is wonderful that our two best players (Moss and Smeltz)  have been Kiwis, with Lochy, Brown and Coveny deserving honorable mentions as well!

i agree with this post, nice words mate and enjoy sydney and keep supporting the phoenix! i met terry at the galaxy game and told him what a wonderful job he has done with the phoenix and he said thanks mate, but honestly i agree he has done an OUTSTANDING job, i came to new zealand from scotland in June 07 and when i arrived i heard that the knights were finished and was gutted coz i was gonna have no team to support as i am a footie fanatic, i was a glasgow rangers season ticket last season and been used to footie all my life, and having the phoenix here has made my life a lot more better! i just wished there were more than 21 games as you get hooked!

I think it would be good to see phoenix play the likes of glasgow rangers/glasgow celtic/man utd, chelsea, fulham, villareal, psv, ac milan etc, just 1 of those as a pre-season game, i think that would be really interesting.

I personally think we have the BEST manager in the league in rikki herbert and he has done awesome job as well!

heres to a happy 2008 with the phoenix!

At the START of 2007, Wellington didn't have an A-League side.

Look how far we've come.

Credit must go to Terry Serepisos, and then the management. From Tony Pignata to Ricky Herbert, the players, and of course us as fans.

Hopefully 2008 will be even better than this year!!!1

I agree, these are such exciting times.

Minor point: it's 'would have' and 'should have'
The contraction is 'would've', not 'would of'

Grammar pedantics lesson over ...

Funnily enough, that's one of my pet hates as well.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Sorry guys, I thought that the rugby boys were the ones that went to "toffs schools", well they did in London. I apologise for my grammer, but I would rather you commented on the text of what I was trying to get at, rather than the grammer. But hey, I know that were all a bit nervous about Friday nights last home game. Lol

It's 'grammar',as well.And I'm from Huyton! Got my physics o'level though.

I too would like to congratulate all in their effort to try to give this whole thing momentum.

Never been involved in the birth of a new side-it's been really sound watching it all unfold.

Is anyone worried about the impending break, and how many of us will return?

i'm not worried about returning - it's just surviving  the off-season that  has me worried

I reckon we'll get bigger crowds next season - most of us are well and truly hooked, i believe,

and we'll have a media profile next pre-season unlike this time

That's true. I just believe in momentum, and I don't like to see it halted.
Having a decent last few games would help.I reckon Terry and all security should pay to get in. That'd boost the figures a bit!

Cull the dead-wood, retain faith in the good and make a few canny signings and you lot could do the double next year- it has happened before!

if someone had said to me on the 22nd of july that on the 23rd i would be an absolute football fanatic id of told them to get there hand off it.
all my life i have been a rugby boy, love the game and am a massive chiefs/bop fan but on a bloody cold sunday afternoon i went from having a passing football interest to being hooked.
standing with the yf boys and watching us play sydney in pre season was an experience i will never forget. to hear the boys singing 'we are better than we thought we'd be' was purely priceless.
as the season has carried on i have become a nutter, ive missed the last 4 home games but have sat in a pub in australia and danced and thrown things, by myself, all in the name of the phoenix.
rugby has some serious issues but to be honest i dont really care anymore, rugby can do what it likes. ive got the phoenix and the beautiful game to keep me entertained. thanks to terry, ricki, ross and the boys but for me the biggest effort has come from the boys of yf, what they have done for the nix cannot be underestimated and i think the success of the phoenix has been made greater by the efforts of everyone here but most of all the backroom guys.
so thanks guys
cant wait for the many years ahead, full of championships, discos at the ring of fire, and an ale or few enjoyed.

Well said Bopman....

The first live football game I ever went to was the Phoenix and I was hooked. Been to every home game since and loved every minute of it. I now understand what supporting a team is all about. Win lose or draw you are there for them!!!

My wife hates all sports but she gave me a pair of Phoenix socks for Xmas....I'm making progress, one day I might get her to a game!
