OK, here's another vital question I've been wanting the answer to
for ages - and that picture of the clogs is what has finally goaded
me beyond endurance. Being as I am still basically a newbie can
someone please explain the meaning of the team nicknames: Tards,
Clogs, Planes, etc?
Tards is pretty self-explanatory, having been to the Victory v
Phoenix game recently and heard such shining pearls of wit as
"Wellington sucks sh*t!" tossed down at us along with the bottles.
Bloody Tards.
The others? Full Oxford-approved derivations please.

And the Planes is just so...plain. Still, mustn't argue with

Planes is a pathetic nickname for the Jets. Nicknames are meant to be short and planes has more letters than Jets! It's ridiculous.
I suppose it's only one syllable though, easy to say, still...loyalgunner2007-12-13 22:14:16

Gateaufc = Adelaide's 'the gate' = Cakes
man that's a cryptic crossword clue!, impressive (are you sure an Aussie came up with it?, or was it you Mr Wolf?)
i thought they were called that because they were bad for you, likely to go stale, and about as rugged as a chocolate sponge
and because calling them the cacks would be impolite,
but i stand corrected
