No sh*t, I was unaware of this, it seems the FFA wanted to punish good 'ol Sack Tapper post match but couldn't due to their own rules. Rocky2008-02-28 15:46:27

i understand the fifa ruling and such, but to allow someone to be an entrant in a player of the year award who courted controversy by hitting out at an official is not really keeping within the spirit of the game. still it was voted for by his peers, so what does that say

it says that most footballers would do it if they had the balls

come to think of it, maybe Joel had heard about testicles and wondered what they were

He saw them dangling and thought they were punching bags?

Most fighters punch above the belt but in Joel's case he decided it was time for a change.

To boldly go where no man had gone before! And he got away with it.

All players that participate are eligible. And so they should be. The issue is that if the FIFA ruling allowed further punitive measures in such cases, Griffiths would have not played the final two thirds of the season and so would not have been able to have had the otherwise great season he had to earn the votes he gained.

Actually SiNZ, not quite true.

If you get a Red Card you are not elligible for player of the season.

In that case, I retract my statement and apologise for my misleading post.

I'm gob smacked though. The FFA have rules for everything, don't they? I'm not aware of other leagues taking that approach.... unless I missed something. Is it for straight reds only or also those that come from a second yellow?

Any sending off I think.

Personally I thought Muscat was the best player in the league last season (V2) but he couldn't win it.  In fact Carle won it because all the Melbourne stars in a side that dominated had got Reds at some point.

Thats a very very PC rule...although the award is for best and fairest.

Normo's coming home

LOL - one of my favourite memories of the season
