You'd have to say he's better than most other A-League centre-backs.

So here are some pet theories:

His shirt number 22 is too high; the Oz staff can't count that high.
Clerical error at FFA confused him with Ferrante.
Ricki is leaning on him to replace Nelsen as NZ captain.
Once said Lucas Neill's sister walked funny, has never been forgiven.

Anyone else got any ideas?

I think the main reason is that they don't think he is good enough.
The centre backs at the moment are not A league.
Jade North played against Bahrain last week and I thought he was pretty average.
He will also never replace Nelsen as I'm sure that he would not take out NZ citzenship.
With the stand down period he would be too old, as he has already played for Oz.

Pretty sure he hasn't.  he was selected in the squad but never played.  Although I tend to agree with your analysis that he's an Aussie at heart.

It's like the quotes from Michael Luck saying he could never play for kliwi's, his father would kill him. Hard News2011-01-24 22:14:14

You could be right. I know he was in the socceroo squad, against Indonesia but perhaps he did not get on.
I like him. Hopefully his time will come.

Only if they have a dwarf throwing squad

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Play what?

Three for me, and two for them.

Do you accept that the Natioanl coach and selection panel have the final say on who is on the national team lineup? If so, why question?

Yes they do.  Because Durante > north.

Agreed, he's a better player than North and not far off McKain.  The fact he wasn't in the preliminary squad of 50 is nothing short of baffling.

Personally, I think he made a wise crack about the mothers of both Olsieck and Verbeek and has been shut out of the squad as a result.

It's a good thing. If him and North were in the socceroos we'd be proper f*cked.

On another note, do the Nix receive any compensation for North being away for half the season on international duty?

Rubbish. It's obviously a Phoenix led conspiracy - we got to keep Durante during the Cup. Apparently Ricki has contacts in the FFA!

the most disappointing thing for me is that when mckain and dura got selected together that time, it sent a message to good australian players telling them they could come to the Nix and still be in the frame for national team selection. With mckain leaving and dura now being consistently overlooked, that has gone. Yes North is being picked but clearly not on his form for the phoenix (which is also f*cked up)

On the basis of most of this season, yes, but neither are international quality.

who have oz got as RB? is his ability to also provide cover at RB the reason north is being selected? Just a stab in the dark, i really know nothing about the aus national side (except that i hate the sight of them) paulm2011-01-25 10:53:29

North has been playing as Right Back in the recent absence of Luke Wilkshire so I assume that's why he's there. General consensus is that he hasn't played so well.

Nope, Neill is playing as a Centre Back for us at the Asian Cup, pairing with Sasa Ognenovski.

FWIW, I also rate Durante as a better player than North, but what can you do.

The simple fact that North has played in South Korea and Norway would also work in his favour, especially with the new gaffa. Who are you going to want to be looking at/keeping an eye on? Someone whos proven in the past to be good enough to move onto bigger things than the A-League or someone who hasnt?

(not to say Durantes not good enough)

Durante did play in singapour according to wiki, before joining the jets

It's simple. His eyes are too close together. And they're kinda shifty looking.

That league wouldnt be as good as the A-League though. Dadis playing over there (and scoring)... and that other dude who trialled with us at the start of the season didnt cut it, and Suhka's playing for Tards rather than back home...

If you're talking about Bambang he took one look at Wellington's August weather and decided it wasn't for him, nothing to do with ability (Although the money he gets in Indonesia is probably something to do with it).
You know we belong together...
