Good on Tony for hopefully pulling this off but I'd have pretty modest expectations for the crowd - Wigan not being a strong brand and having no "stars".

IMHO;

Top tier EPL e.g. Man U or Liverpool = full stadium

Next tier e.g. Everton or Spurs = 20,000+

"Other EPL" = 10,000 to 12,000
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Valencia is a type of Orange and Zaki sounds like the name of a dodgy Kebab joint...

Hope to be going, just to see a Premier League would be cool.

It seems like only yesterday they were making their premoer vebut with a vist from Chelsea and a 1-1 draw to kick off with. Chelsea equalised with a last minute goal.

I doubt Zaki will be a part of the touring team. Either that or he just won't show up to the game...

I forgot Zaki was only on loan,I thought Wigan had signed him up after his early form.
probably happy they hadn't

Actually, Zaki could be an opportunity for the Nix no other club would want him after what Bruce has been spinning. I'm sure we could live with the odd discretion

Good news and if marketed right, could bring in the crowds

I wonder if JJB Sports will sell the Phoenix Strip in their stores?

Didn't Dave Whealan sell out of JJB?
I know he's changed the name of the stadium to DW stadium,
so there's  no real association anymore between Wigan Atheltic  and jjb

Me too.

But maybe we'll get a lot of league fans coming down thinking Wigan are here to play the Warriors...

We can always enlist the ARC to give us a hand with the marketing - give them a shout Tony

I can't see a big crowd going to see Wigan play. They will have to market the game as an English Premier League team playing rather then just Wigan.

We beat Wigan 1-0 that day, I'll have you know! We didn't deserve it, but Hernan Crespo scored the winner in the 90th minute. That was the season we went on to retain the title.

As for Wigan going to Wellington, I think it'll get plenty of interest. Wigan have had a superb season for a club of their size. Zaki is likely to not be there next season but Chris Kirkland, Lee Cattermole, Antonio Valencia, Luis Figueroa etc are all decent players who will be good to watch. I saw them come to Chelsea a few weeks ago and they were one of the best sides I've seen at the Bridge this season - had a real go and played some nice stuff at times. I know they're planning a couple of summer signings too so they may yet end up with a "crowd-puller" by the time they get down there.

Oh yeah you're right, I'd much rather watch some bunch of guys that I (and most other people) have never heard of play against a mediocre A-League team. Nobody is going to watch Wigan play FFS.

Also, Tim Cahill is better than any current NZ player, and the best current Socceroo - he hardly rates a "meh", but I'm sure you'll see that in South Africa whilst wishing NZ were there instead.

We'll also be sitting their laughing as a penalty knocks you out again.

And for the record, if you don't know at least one person in Wigan, you probably don't know who Cahill is.Michael2009-04-03 23:39:51

If by "Samoa's finest" you mean "Born in Sydney" then sure. This is kind of boring though - if you guys want to pretend the general public even knows who Wigan are be my guest. I won't be there unless it's very cheap.
