Will Nix ever host a Grand Final?

Will the FFA let the Phoenix host the grand final in Wellington? Ever?

I know its the herald sun, but they are reporting that double booking in Melbourne means that Etihad and MCG are not available.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/aleague...

The line that worries me is that, if Victory host the GF and play "against big-drawing clubs such as Sydney FC or Western Sydney then FFA would rather play the game at ANZ Stadium"

AAMI Park in Melbourne holds 30050 people, Westpac holds 34500. If the Phoenix were to host a "big-drawing club", will they move the grand final to the SFS as Westpac is deemed to small? It seems like if there is any issue (like profit margins not being maximised), then they just hold the Grand Final at SFS - ccm vs jets, wsw vs brisbane.

Its not like they haven't already set the precedent, with the Nix playing away in every FFA cup game. The finals being scheduled at the discretion of the FFA just like the FFA cup.

I think they will.

What would be interesting is whether they try to move it to Eden park. Would be bs, but can see the financial temptation.

The coverage of Nix's previous final runs has been nearly non-existent. The FFA may also view the medias general apathy towards what happens in NZ as a downside, especially when the grand final needs to compete with AFL/NRL for media space in April/May, whereas a final in Sydney would get coverage.

25k and 30k finals crowds suggests a GF here would have no problems at all.

That is a great crowd, but the article says that 30k in Melbourne isnt good enough to host the grand final.

I should stop stressing, this isnt a problem for another 6 months.

I think they'd let us play in NZ, but would definantly push for eden park. The bahrain game could be used as a point to keep it in wellington though

No way it would be at Eden Park.

The grand final normally attracts 40-50,000, so the FFA would likely want a bigger stadium than Westpac.

Part of me just does not see the FFA holding a grand final in NZ for the simple reason that it's not Australia. There's a decent dose of "the FFA always screws us over" behind that opinion.

There will never be an A-league GF in NZ... for marketing/PR/AFC reasons if nothing else.

And no - having the FA Cup final in Cardiff is not even close to a comparison.

Though now we're a top-4 club, anything is possible...

I think in a way taking it to a completely different country to the team that earned the right to host it would cause more controversy than taking it from one city to another within the same country.

Look.  The only time they have moved it was a move of about 40km which did not stop the home fans from attending.  Any move from Wellington would do that.

It's all conjecture but I doubt very much they would play anywhere other than Westpac.

(abriddged) rules from A-League site ...

"The selection of Venues for all Finals Series Matches, including the Grand Final, is at the absolute discretion of FFA and will be made based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to,venue availability, broadcast, security, commercial, marketing and financial considerations".

What would you think might happen?  Really?

I know, I know, its serious!

Not going to be a problem this season I don't think.

Westpac can hit 40 with temp seating. Eden park can hit 48-50 with temp seating. Think they would be better off sucking up the difference and have it Westpac IMO.

Fuck this stupid game

That;'s completely untrue.  When we went deep into the finals when we had the Perth and then the Newcastle finals games at Westpac there was saturation media coverage.  I know because I was in Auckland at the time and it was the biggest sports story up there

It wasnt very clear, but I was talking about media coverage in Australia - which I feel is what the FFA cares about. Living in Melbourne at the time, it was hard to find anything that even mentioned the Phoenix were in the competition until they got to play in Sydney. Then it was only to mention who Sydney FC's opponent was.

Oh great, so we go from a "our stadium is too big" theme to a "our stadium is too small" theme? On my phone its too hard to insert pics, but just imagine Patrick Stewart face-palming...

Why would you expect them to care? They would care as much for the Nix in the finals as we would care for someone like the Jest. Its an Aussie competition...

Clearly what this thread points to is that WelNix needs to argue building a new rectangular stadium because Westpac is not big enough.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
