how do we get the non-football community to buy memberships
especially as the season conflicts with the Air NZ Cup for the
first couple of months (would rugger buggers really buy 2 sport
membeships?)
When you consider a rugby season ticket at $500+ for 6 mediocre Super 14 games (half of them minus AB's), a "test" against France C and the Air NZ Cup and compare that to $184 for 10 A league games for the same seat then it compares favourably.
I think this year they might struggle to hit their target but next year when people have a choice between renewing their rugby season ticket or getting a Phoenix ticket then I think we'll see a huge shift. Especially with families. Do I pay $1000+ for rugby tickets or do I get my whole family Phoenix tickets for less than the price of 1 rugby ticket.
No brainer really.

I don't think the season ticket shambles is the clubs fault,
Ticketek have a long history of stuffing up such things
will the phoenix store be selling memberships or gear?
Suggestion of posters/flyers round the uni campuses advertising $80 memberships might be the way to go.

Thats not a bad idea Ginger ,judging from the indoor footy scene here in Welly theres a lot of Asian students studying and playing here and im sure $80 bucks wouldn't stretch them to much plus none of them are remotely interested in rugby!!

Tony P has gone on record to state that his target for this season
is 2000-2500 memberships, the last stated number was 880 - up from
700 2-3 weeks previously, now I don't think the 880 was post
Melbourne and of course this Friday night will be a good
opportunity for even more people to get a first-hand experience of
the Phoenix and to flog memberships?
The question is though - is 2000-2500 memberships for our V1 season realistic?, it seems after the initial flood of 'football community' (200 week 1, 500 week 3-4) people bought theirs things have plateaued a bit - how do we get the non-football community to buy memberships especially as the season conflicts with the Air NZ Cup for the first couple of months (would rugger buggers really buy 2 sport membeships?)

I think 2200 full members is pretty optimisitc. Maybe
1000-1200 is a more ahicevable number.
If you'd asked me when the nix were first confirmed whta I
tuoght a great number of season ticket holders would be I'd have
said 500-1000. anything over 1000 is fantastic.
people will continue to buy after the first league game. At
the moment we have the football fans who have bought their
memberships, but we now have 2 games to 'sell' the concept to those
that are only interested. It is up to us (the fans) as much
as the players to sell this. If we get a decent sized
crowd, with a cracking atmosphere (singing, dancing, etc) then
people will realise that $184 isn't much for 10 games with an
atmosphere that you can get no where else in NZ.
If we have a small section of people singing, and everyone
else observing, people will continue to go to individual games,
dependant on the weather, what else is on, etc.
Come on people - it is up to us.

I am a fan of rugby but the atmosphere at rugby games has NOTHING
on football. Watching rugby at home is actually better than
watching it live.

This is a good point. I think the real sales will come through
next year when/ if folks start comparing one option against the
other, having perhaps had by then, some experience of each.
I think a lot of people are cautious because of the shambles that
were the Knights and the Kingz. If we win a few on the trot and
instill in their minds that we can be very competitive i'm sure the
memberships will rise dramatically.
just lost a message i was sending, you'll be relieved coz now it'll
be a lot shorter
agree with everything above
and want to say that the ticketek thing has almost certainly
cost the club memberships
the club need to sort it out
they've done absolutely everything right except the liason
with ticketek (in my view)

I think this is right on point, I have many a football fan
friend who actively express no interest in NZ football based on the
shabby past performance. The Nix scoring some goals should really
swing this around, in my opinion if they can do anything better
than last (which I seriously believe) the support will just keep on
comming in. As to getting the rugby cross over..... Kiwi's are
pretty into that game, I dunno if thats so achievable, but just
maybe if we can get the feel out there
I'm inclined to agree, but if ticketek aren't delivering then
the club needs to be monitoring their performance in relation to
the 'contract' and demand that they deliver. ( Or, possibly the
club under-estimated initial interest and negotiated a fairly
minimal set of staffing expectations for the early weeks of
pre-season.)
It is possible that this has happened as recent emails on the
season ticket thread have been more positive.
As long as the club learns form the experience for next season
- when we'll all be renewing and there'll be heaps of
new folks keen as well - then it's all good!
I agree with the previous coments on the Kinz and Knights , but I
know people who are not avid football supporters like myself who
are now taking notice of what this team/club have done in such a
short space of time who are now seriously looking at purchasing
season tickets ,( with a bit of pushing from me admittingly).
I have only lived in Wellington for that past few years
,coming from the big mess called Auckland and have noticed
that the community at large here in Wellington are keen to support
THEIR TEAM.
I would be rapt if Tony P's estimation was true but to be
realistic I would be looking at anything over 1000 would be
great.Possibly some people are waiting to se how the team do
against Melboune before commiting themselves.

I think if it pushes hard and advertises the fact that it is
only $80 dollars for a student membership they could get
heaps of people keen.

I would suggest that we find out where the largest contingents
of foreign students at Vic/ Massey come from and maybe write up a
few flyers in the languages of those localities then distribute
them to the international student liaison people.
Football, as we all know, is VERY BIG overseas. There's bound
to be loads of international students who'd love to come along, but
perhaps don't know about it or might feel slightly marginalised .

Good idea Phil why not advertise to those markets?
Any potential fan is a worthy fan.

I am a season ticket holder for the Hurricanes and have been for
the past 5 seasons - but jumped at the chance to buy a Nix season
ticket too. I will be faced with the dilemma next year of
holding both again but I sure know which one I'm more excited
about.......the atmosphere against Sydney FC was incredible and
will only get livelier.....
I'm Phoenix til I die...

Aarg lost my post too
Anyway, I'm thinking the target is optimistic, given a few
things - they're a new team, and membership has to be built
upon.
There's a bit of history to overcome,
and - Wellington doesn't know what a professional team looks
like yet!
But I have faith, a few sweet wins, people will know this
ain't the Kingz/Knights part three and they'll roll in...

ginger, you might need to change your second name, from eejit
to "marketting guru"
hopefully the club is onto your idea
It would be good if you could get each embassy in Welly to buy a few season tickets to raffle off to the staff or to use as corporate tickets. Plenty of football fans amongst the diplomatic crowd, especially those with families. Might be worth another 100 or so tickets.
I'm trying to get in touch with Vic Internatino Students liaison
