refereeing this season has really gone to the dogs, some calls are VERY dodgy and they just generally seem to lose control over the game quickly, and this seems to make them make huge mistakes (ie gerard parsons hand ball, peter o'leary red card, theoklitos handball) its not good enough

I'm not sure that I have seen any out of control games at all.

The reffing this year is no better or worse than any other, this ref bashing is a huge beat up (sic)

In the cases you cited it is quite possible for the ref to not see the actual incident as clearly as would be needed to have made another decision other than the ones they gave

Frankies is the winning post here, long live the slow mo (porn) replays

Just another stupid question :----

Did Hester retire as a ref after the World Cup ???

If not why is he not used in the A league ???

Lets face it only ref from Aust/NZ to ref at WC. Why is he not being utilised ????

He's done a handful of NZFC ASB Premiership games this year.

O'Leary did the HB v Wellington game yesterday. Best performance from a ref I've seen this year. Takes no nonsence and was in control totally.

Saving his crap performance for the Phoenix.

If he does other games so well, why is it he is so bad against the Phoenix? I'd hate to think there was more to it than simple piss poor standard of refereeing.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

stupid poll

Yep. Post a poll after a couple of 'controversial' games (Sydney and Adelaide) and this is what happens...

O'Leary and Parsons are both good refs.

New Zealand's top football referees will soon be officiating in the upper reaches of English football.

New Zealand Football has reached an agreement with England's body of professional match officials, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), that will see an annual visit of up to four New Zealand referees to England each year to take part in seminars and workshops run by PMGOL and referee in Premier League Reserve fixtures.

Sounds promising for development for NZ ref's, wonder if the FFA has any plans to do similar. An exchange program to get some experienced refs over might be a good idea.

Sometimes players are shown up when they compete above their natural level/ability. Same with refs too probably.

Watching the game tonight.....Newcastle v Gold Coast.......Ryan [ no decision] Sherperd is Very" Below" Average.........[plus the  the lino who cock-up big time 2 weeks ago in the Melbourne v Brisbane is back though]ChopperHarris2010-12-15 22:04:13

Cant really blame the lino for that - he was side on to it, pretty hard to judge from that angle. If Theoclitos went over the front end of the box I would agree.

A lino is side on to almost everything....if he could not see this then he should not be in this league....being on his side of pitch..right in front of him.....what else was he looking at...????????

Its hard to blame him for the same reason assistant referees call offsides rather than the referee, and why one ref teams in lower grades get so many offsides wrong - our eyes aren't very good at picking up subtle changes in depth without being parallel to them. (I realise that's really badly explained but I can't be assed editing).

^  I could've told you that, but you didn't ask!
