not many
if any

maybe that blonde guy up front. He seemed alright. Maybe could partner Greenacre up front as a Targetman. But he's just untested in this league son don't know if he's worth the risk?
What was his name again?...

Only one signaling interest is Alonso, but we do already have Ferrante so I think we're ok.

Would the All Whites make the Nix starting line up??
Moss yes
Mully no
Vicelich maybe I'd take him in a flash, but with Dura captain he'd have to fight it out with Siggy
Boyens no could be a decent Dodd replacement.
Lochhead no... oh hang on... He had an off form year, so what, we know he does have quality.
Brockie / Plodder no
Elliot yes
Brown well... yes
Bertos yes
Killen yes
Smeltzy definitely
I'd love to see the team performing like they did against Italy take on an A-League side.

The question should be; Would they make the Melbourne Victory squad ? That's the standard we need to aspire to if we want to win the league.

Moss maybe.
Mully no, wouldn't make Lower Hutt's Masters team.
Vicelich no, wouldn't push out any of Durante, McKain or Sigmund.
Boyens no chance.
Lochhead yes, has been the best AW defender so far.
Brockie yes, anyone who nutmegs Pirlo should automatically get any contract they want.
Christie would make the squad.
Elliot yes absolutely, would be the first one i'd sign if i was starting from scratch.
Brown no.  Get Elliot instead he's just as good defensively AND he can pass a ball to his own team.
Killen yes.
Bertos yes.
Smeltz yes.

I don't get why so many people rate Vicelich? He was badly shown up, along with Boyens. Definately not better than Siggy, McKain or even Durante.

Only players i'd take (on top of our current squad)  would be Elliott, Chris James, Smeltz and Killen.

Same old question then - What the hell are players that aren't up to playing for the Nix doing playing for the national team on a regular basis?
I know that quality players and depth are an issue, but most countries would have the opposite problem. Ours situation is unusual.

You do have to question how Mulligan can start at RB for the All Whites on the world stage when it was clear to a blind man last season that he is not a RB and never will be?

I like James and would have tried to find a spot in the playing 11 for him and would certainly have him at nix.

Agree with Valeo there is no way Vicelich is up to standard of McKain, Durrante and Sigmund.

To add to the nix for me I'd have James, Elliott and Killen plus welcome back Smeltz and Moss. Would be tempted to take Vicelich as cover for Sigmund/Durrante as really like McKain in midfield not as CB cover.

Plenty to "Mull" over, especially given the position(s) of the coach
Brockie not wanted by Nix, but starts in place of Christie who is at the Nix
Mulligan can't get near Nix side but starts for AW's in a position Christie can cover.
When you look at this and see that Wood gets on in Premier League, he can't start for AW's

I know, competiton for places is different and maybe one or two out of position, but a head scratcher.
Mulligan seems certain to go (from current AW's spot) when Siggy returns

From an "outsider" looking in on this one it would appear that Mr Herbert still has one eye on the Phoenix 09/10 A-League Title Tilt as well as giving himself one last chance to lock in combinations for the upcoming World Cup Qualifier Playoff at the end on the year.

I would suggest that the All White's final group match against Iraq will provide the best indication of starting line up for that match in November as this is the only match in this Tournament that will be against Asian opposition.

Personally I would sign Vicelich and possibly Boyens for an A-League squad, whether they would be in the starting lineup would be another matter.

The MLS must have a wide range of player ability. On the one hand Landan Donovan, that Beckham chap a while ago and FRED, but on the other hand Boyens, who presumeably would be behind a fit Sigmund in the pecking order.

With expansion of the A-League to 12 teams I wonder to what degree we will also see a greater range appear - on one hand returning Socceroos after the World Cup and on the other hand a few squad fillers of dodgy ability.

I like Mully and in the spain game it wasnt his fault. Herbert took brockie off so he could crowd the midfield more as he doesnt play aswide as brockie. this then forced spain to play across the back then town mullys flank which was then easier to deal with then them just cutting us open. I think Mully has more quality about him more so than siggy and lochead and if the team is playing well hel together hel add more to it than them.

Boyens is playing at a higher level than Siggie, very hard to compare.

I think most players would have been shown up in the last two games.

European Champions that had prior warning not to take the Kiwi's lightly and the World Cup holders who learn't a 3 goal lesson not to take the Kiwi's lightly.

Pretty hard one all round, Catch 22.

i think Boyens is crap to be honest.

he was poor in the Italy game. the first goal for them came partly because Boyens did not stay with his man, which left them to score an easy header. remember ?

and don't even get me started on the Spain game.

Don't rate Christie at all. Don't think he did anything when he came on. Except Spain decided to easier.  scoop2009-06-16 19:44:58

Id like to see Vicelich signed as back up for Mckain, Durrante and Sigmund. He is to good of a player to be only playing for Auckland City. And I would rate him better than Muscat but hey Lochhead had a well below par season last year after playing rather well in his first year for us, so maybe (hopefully) Muscat will do the same.

Can't understand how Elliott was not signed by the nix when he was off contract, should have brought the man back to his home town.

As for Mulligan he shouldn't be playing in the backs, he likes to attack and seems to panic a bit when in defence. Id have him but in the halfs.

James is of a good quality footballer, hell he must be if he played representitive football for England at a Young age.

A little of topic (sorry) but im still worried that we still only have two strickers. I mean we play Melbourne next week.
