I suppose our facilities can be used as a draw for us. Even though they're shared they do look amazing. Plus we play in a huge stadium that we may or may not fill.
For the right fee, would be a good bit of business for the Nix. Waine's only played 349 ALM mins, season to date. The imports are being favoured to start, and you still have Barba to bring off the bench.
Welnix have bled serious cash last few seasons, so can't blame them selling a young player for a nice fee, if that is what transpires.
Given how young some of our imports are, I wonder if the new expanded world cup (and NZs easy qualification path) is a draw card to some euro players who want to be naturalised for the chance to play at a world cup. I'd be interested to see if the club is using this in recruitment. Fingers crossed for kraev.
Just wanna see the lad playing. Hasn’t played enough given his output imo. Perhaps not as powerful as Zawada, but has a range of skillful finishes and hits a decent cross too. Needs to have some seasons at a higher intensity and more playing time.
Plymouth have a lot of depth in terms of strikers right now, Hardie, Cosgrove, and Ennis. I'd obviously be happy for Waine, I'm just worried he'll get even less game time than he's had in these last few games where Zawada's been finding some goal scoring form.
If it turns out to be true then good on him. Be good to get a bit of cash in the bank too, given that seems to be one of the bugaboo's surrounding the game down in this part of the world at the minute...
As pointed out, him getting minutes off the bench isn't going to be significantly increasing his value any time soon. Better to take the money, thank & wish Waineo the best of luck and hopefully have some nice add-ons attached to any potential deal. 🤝
They are also top of League One, so hard to imagine him breaking into the team quickly, unless they have some injuries.
But a quick loan deal out to a National League (5th tier) side would be fine for half a season, to get to know the English game. He just should be playing where ever he goes. Still only 21.
Lots of speculation about Waine (and standard of ALM) on this Plymouth fan forum. Sounds like one of their main strikers a Scot, Ryan Hardie wants a move away from Plymouth.
Someone posted Charlie Austin was also sighted in the crowd!
That's an interesting read. Some interest, some cynicism, not bad for a football forum :)
We just have to have a perm clause that says if he comes back to the A League we get first dibs. Don't want him signing for Victory and scoring goals against us for fun.
suprised it's happened now, but good on him for taking tha chance, god on the club for letting him go. Hopefully he does well and we got some coin from the deal.
I suppose one benefit of it being so early in the window is it gives a lot of time to consider signing a replacement striker/forward. Hopefully if they do want to, Talay goes after a New Zealander; be a bit awkward if he was the national coach and signing journeymen Australians ahead of New Zealanders. If they don't want to, then it might just be a case of integrating Riley Bidois, given he got a taster at the end of last season.
After months of “too many attackers we need more defensive cover” we want to replace him with a striker? It’s so hard to keep up with what we want these days.
Yes presumably it’s just more mins for OVH (which will please someone on here), and maybe Bidois
But what the hell is Joey Champness up to at the moment, apart from FIFA lawsuits? Uffie made Sotiro a better player, if JC can’t get a gig in Europe he should do another half season in the ALM to restart his career
Edit - and nice video from Waine. His family, friends & the club should rightly be proud of him. Quality young man, who I'm sure will be getting a lot of support & good guidance from Chris Wood & others in the UK. Exciting to see what happens from here
If Talay gets the NZ job I for one hope he dosnt just sign Kiwi players as some hope to help the Kiwi teams out. Both jobs need to be kept seperate and what some may seem as good for the All Whites may not be in the Phoenixs best interests.
Gutted we didn’t get to see him play out the season, but very pleased for him and his message to the club/ fans was a touch of genuine class. Was he from Porirua?

Probably an indication of the potential they see in Waine that a cub who typically hasn't spent much on players recently, and are favourites for promotion, are still keen to drop a 6 figure transfer fee.
Can’t think really of a better move, 6 months to hopefully bed himself in and make the team and then it looks like championship football. Not a bad city to live in as well. Not too big, not too small, by the sea and not too cold.

Hopefully they don't want to. We're well suited in that position, if anything we should use a small fraction of the cash on another defender.
Looking just on free agents at CB: Nikko Boxall, 30yo, NZ international, has played in Finnish league, Danish 2nd tier, USL Championship Hunter Ashworth, 24yo, NZ age-group international, grew up in USA, has played in USL Championship Aaron Anderson, 22yo Aussie, played sporadically for a few years at Melbourne Victory Patrick Flottman, 25yo Aussie, has played a little bit of A-League with Sydney FC and also Thai league, Indian Super League

Fair enough, I suggested a striker as Talay and the recruitment staff didn't create the squad balance on accident, so there must've been some logic as to why they had it that way, and then they might've wanted to replace 1 for 1. Andrew Voerman tweeted that Talay was unsure about signing a replacement forward anyway.
Boxall is - or at least was - in New Zealand, he was working with Sunz at the beach on Christmas Eve, alongside a few other guys who play through the Northern Hemisphere summer. He'd be pretty easy to get a word into as to whether he'd be keen, and he has the experience.
Don't think Ashworth is a go, he had a couple games at San Diego (as seems to be tradition for New Zealanders) in 2021, but then hasn't played since. I think he might have 'retired' and gone into an office job for the last year and a bit.
Can't say much on the Aussie guys, don't really know them. There could also be Mitchell/Brotherton from City, they're effectively free agents too.
Trouble with signing players at this time is that they likely haven't played for a while. Split year seasons have been done for 6 months, and even calendar year seasons are done for a couple months even. Staying a while in free agency can lose the sharpness/fitness, and they don't have any friendlies or pre-season to ease them in, it's just 'right, game on Saturday in 25C in Sydney.' Are possibilities of mutual termination or loan signings, but those aren't always a guarantee, and again probably players on the outer so will still lack match-fitness.

Yeah if you look at Ashworth's Linkedin page that definitely seems to be the case. Was working at Adobe from August 2021 to Dec of last year and is now currently a sales specialist. https://www.linkedin.com/in/hunter-ashworth-3b4401130
Even though Nikko has been a free agent for a few months now I really think we should try and snap him up because there could still be any USL club looking for an experienced centre back to boost their backline, not to mention one that has significant European experience. I wonder if Talay actually knows he's available. I assume that could be a possibility with Nikko recently being here.
In terms of a replacement for Waine, I think bringing back Bidois and promoting Rudland would be good additions on their own. Bidois has still hardly had a chance to prove himself in the 1st team and Rudland is showing promise.
Colloty and Donkers have been mentioned but I really want to see them be given a trial outside of NZ, time will tell though if there's any interest in them.
Taylor Schrijvers is another potential pick up, was mentioned a fair bit in preseason as a possible hire. Was at Melbourne Knights last season but has since been released. Not sure what that says about his quality if they haven’t kept him on though.
I'm in the bolster the defence camp and think Niko Boxall would be the path of least resistance. Although if the door is open for another attacker now that Waine has left surely Losagga's time is now.
