that's a point of pride for the A-League; incubated a goalkeeping tactic so effective it got banned

Yeah but it wasn't from the A-League, that the tactic got FIFA's attention. It was Redmayne's antics in the Socceroos-Peru playoff game.

I really hope we can play Kraev in an attacking role more centrally next season. He looked dangerous every time he cut inside this season and ran at defenders.

I'm always disappointed when my teammates can talk to each other about EPL games or even English Championship games, but when I talk about how I'm influenced in my penalty-stopping style by Andrew Redmayne, I get blank looks

That goal against Western especially... 👌

From Wikipedia, does not look too shabby:
"Holmes has represented Australia at national level for the U19s and U20s in the Asian Championship and U20's World Cup qualifiers. In May 2015 Holmes was selected to play against Brazil for Australia's U20s at Win Stadium Wollongong. Although Australia were defeated 1–0, Holmes produced a man of the match performance pulling out a string of outstanding saves from Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) and Andrea Pereira (Manchester United). Holmes is currently vice captain of the U23 Australian Olyroos."

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Played at Sydney United in his Youth, probably coming of age as a keeper. would be a good signing.

Don't mind this, clanger-prone but still a lot of potential to be reached imo and won't displace Paulsen

Someone did further sleuthing and found his Insta is followed by the official Nix and MacArthur accounts. Maybe a two horse race?

The Nix don't follow Jordan but he does follow most A League teams so following us could mean nothing. He is friends with Chiefy, that could help. Id definitely take him if we are interested

Think piney mentioned him a while back too

Piney tweeted out awhile back that he is impressed by Holmes and suggested he would be a good Sail replacement.

We were linked to Holmes by a Roar friend of mine on Twitter saying that he had heard Holmes was heading our way. It ain't a sauce I would stake my reputation on tho.

The Jets Fan account that gave me the heads up on Al-Taay, now says Jack Duncan is heading our way. That would be utterly depressing if true. Holmes at least got better during the season, Duncan has never been good.

Obviously the Nix are signing up ALL the A-League goalkeepers so no-one else can have any

Well, if you had your way and unlimited budget, which one would you sign up?

From the A League
100% Not Duncan.
Unlimited Budget. Gauci. But that's not going to happen.

I'd say maybe the only positive of signing Duncan over Holmes is he might be agreeing to not be the number 1 choice goalie as he wasn't really at Newcastle with him and Weir both playing. + he's a lot older than Holmes so maybe a more of a mentor and backup role to Paulsen rather than another upcoming GK like Holmes who wants to push for a starting role.

if we are to get either it'll be Holmes, Dome has said they were looking for another young keeper to push Paulsen for the #1 spot.

Jack Duncan. 1 year deal.
While not thrilled, it kind of makes sense to have some one with exp to back up Paulsen.

Actually fine with this. Holmes is a good player but it would be better to let Paulsen blossom as a starter without having to deal with the people management of having two young keepers baying for one starting spot. Duncan's presumably arrived as the clear backup - if he STARTS, that's when I'll start questioning the club

Edit: Don't get the desire to have Stefan back as a) he was absolutely woeful in his last season in Israel, b) I highly doubt he'd accept a backup role, and c) there's zero need to further halt Paulsen's development when a future fee is almost certainly on the cards for him

If we're gonna sign a cheap player who we know isn't A-League standard surely you make it a young bloke who might improve?

If Newcastle rejects is our approach for the off-season then next season will be a long one.

I really hope AP is as good as people here are building him up to be and he doesn't get injured. In the A league
Good goalkeeper generally = top half finish.
Opposite for the reverse.
AP is unproven really and doesn't currently have a good A league record as it stands for the games he has played.
I feel this is signing is a bit of a gamble.
