We lost Scott die to the fact a club offered him a longer term contract, we lost Sam down to money, I wonder what the club line for Kosta would be?

Auckland will rise once more

Sometimes supporting this club is genuine punishment. If nothing else it's been almost two decades of testing how resilient we are to constant disappointment. This sucks.

Ifill also mentioned (whether inadvertently or not) that we've got the guys on visa deals who we might be trying to move along. Although in the same breath he did mention that they were under contract so that will ultimately make it more difficult.

A clean slate of visas would be a good pallet cleanser and would give us the room to work with to improve the squad - Personally I'd hang on to Oluwayemi, but that's just my own preference.

Those two clubs have shown themselves ready to break the bank to sign players. Nani et al. 🤷‍♂️
We’ll match it or we won’t. Kosta is an easy two year contract imo. But how much is the question I guess.

At least losing Kosta to WSW or Victory or even Auckland would be understandable. Better than losing players to the Jets and Macarthur and Perth like we usually do (Kraev > WSW the exception).

I think Oluwayemi has been good in the latter half of the season. A definite improvement, and can clearly see he's a great shot stopper.

My only criticism (improvement), is that he tends to take a long time to take goal kicks, distribute the balls once getting it etc. It's really simple, but think more urgency to distribute quickly (like Paulsen), would make quite a big difference to our football.

Ishige is the only one I would keep. Josh I wouldn't mind we keep if we got rid of one of the Japanese boys.

Could the club be weighing up the kosta wages to free up the possibility for a strong visa signing? Personally, I’d think that this would be idiotic and if we’re not even in the fight for him, they’ve lost their heads. I’d also be disappointed if waine went to them.

Unfortunately with the club not communicating with the fans its just guess work from everyone.
If Kosta dosnt want to be here no amount of money will entice him and should they really be offering ridiculous money to him any way. Im torn i want him to stay but not if it means we have less to spend elsewhere.

Costa not re signing would be a major blow. Proven goal scorers are in hot demand. Whats going on with our club?. Wooton and  Sutton prefer to sign for the leagues worst club rather than stay. Now it looks like Costa is going. We are left with Rufer and Payne and a bunch of kids and import misfits.

"League's worst club"- Perth can't be that bad to have signed Sail, Pennington, Wooton and Sutton from the league's "most financially stable club". it is also where David Williams went to, all be it not directly from us.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Have you been involved in contact negotiations? You normally don't said anything until things are signed. Im glad they aren't talking while this is going on.

He's a good shot stopper, but little else, doesn't come for crosses, doesn't command his area. At his age and more so the experience and training he's had, that's unlikely to change.

I'd be happy with AKH in there and use the import slot elsewhere in the quad, damn sure we're going to need reinforcements in the outfield.

you know there was a player that won the Joe Marston medal in a Championship winning team and then signed for the worst team in the competition.

That's a huge loss. He was essentially Mr Wellington and the face of our club.

Recruitment needs to be 95% senior players, ready to come in and hit the ground running. We already have enough kids in and around the squad. No excuses - huge gaps in the squad, and the wage bill.

It’s a big loss. But it will also free up a lot of capital for reinvesting.

But remember when he came? Out of form and considered a bit part player. If the new club doesn’t play to his strengths he may well struggle. And he may start to lose pace as well.

It’s just natural in football. Kosta’s been a good servant for several clubs, including us.

It’s a bigger rebuild than we wanted, CB and CF. But also plenty of chance to change style completely and not be dependent on counter attacking solely.

Already assumed he was gone, as we would have heard much sooner if it was business as normal. Kid’s a bit older, starting to get expensive tastes, who knows. They’ve learned how to make all the home cooking.

One of those ones where you have to go the opposite to what's been said.

Guess Waineo isn't going to Auckland then after all. 🤣

With Kosta gone it feels even more crucial that we get mutual with Nagasawa and Ishige, ideally also Olu too, we need as many import spots as possible now.

Also just wanna say, regardless of what happened with injuries this season, specifically this (Kosta leaving) is on chief - I think if we were still a bit rubbish but our style of football this season wasn't the stinking, turgid mess that it was, he might have stayed.

Fuming at the situation we're in and it already feels like we are in  B  I  G  trouble next season

FFS! - so much for wanting to win things with the Nix. I guess it was a nice thing to tell the fans when he came back. I wonder which part of the extension was the sticking point?

Leadership now a big weakness within the player group - only Rufer and Payne.

This in my mind just goes to show how wrong the re-signing of Cheif was.

He's lost his coaching staff, two of the clubs longest serving players in Wooten and Sutton and now his best player over the last two years.

What is he bringing to the table other than excuses for the way last season went.

We need to release all of our remaining imports - and start a fresh and hope to hell Chiefy can uncover a couple gems.

We are shaping up to be in a worst position this time next year - which considering how painful this year was... I don't want to image what that could feel like.

There's only Rufer and Payne left.

As of right now, there's not a single young squad member who the club could make some transfer money from.

Have we ever been so bereft of talent?

Well that put a dampener on an otherwise good day. Time for a walk in the sun while listening to a *non-football* podcast.
I've always been in favour of keeping the imports, even Nagasawa as I think they all have the potential to do well. With Kosta gone, I almost kind of wish they'd all request a mutual. Need to start afresh

To be honest im fearful as to what sort of squad we are going to end up with. If your a visa player in fact any player looking to head to the A League. Given how this season has worked out we arnt a very attractive option. Our play style is shark there is no coaching staff or back up staff all we have going for us are great facilities.
We have had some dark times over the years and this is right up there with the worst for me.
Yet we still have silence from Welnix and the Club.

Knee jerk comment.

AKH, LKH, Hughes, Sheridan, LBS and GSR all have potential. Walker & Supyk even. Certainly they all have potential to be on sold for a fee. The first 4 coming into that 2nd/3rd season sweet spot where a breakout campaign is a chance. Lets see how the U20 WC cohort go in Chile.

Re Kosta. It is depressing news on top of a depressing season.

But lets not forget is still 4-5 months of off season ahead. Italiano & Gill need to burn the midnight oil and uncover some gems.

If they get get rid of Nagasawa, that will give them 3 visa spots. I'd keep Ishige and Olu. Josh's shot stopping can win games on it's own.

But hell maybe they will try get all those 3 visa guys to leave on mutuals, and so have a very blank canvas!!

I mean last week, folks were depressed we had 19 players retained for next season. So maybe having that down to 15 will cheer people up.

Watched Gill's interview.  Didn't give much away. Offered a him a decent contract allegedly and he turned it down. Waine Train come home.

One thing, this will bring the average age of the squad down.
