Are we actually still recruiting? The squad is quite full and there doesnt seem to be any noise coming from the club.
Yes, but they've been bloody good at keeping signings quiet this year - It's actually been quite impressive in all honesty. But something should be announced pretty soon.
Wouldn't expect us to be picking up any WU players though.

how quiet they've kept the signings so far is about the only impressive thing about them so far 😕

it could also be that we haven't signed any locals or overseas players with a reputation.

Disappointing that they’re not able to get any WU players, there definitely some good picks there.

this has neither been confirmed or denied, dont take an expectation to be fact.
Kucharski, but I think he was never technically a full Western United signing?
Correct. He actually signed a contract with WU in July, but this was not approved / recognised by FIFA and so he could not play in the Hahn Cup games. He left for Perth in August, and the licence fiasco blew up about the same time anyway.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
Since a lot of posts here have descended into utter chaos (see the Domey thread that became a geopolitical debate), I'm proposing - but only half tongue in cheek - that we look at Hamish Watson as a squaddie. He's big, has a lot of experience now and is proven at Handy Prem level. Bring him on with 25 to go when we're chasing games. If you get 4-5 goals out of him, it would be worth as an investment...
been there done that, has he got better than he was in 2015-2018? played 31 games scored 6, most of those as a sub id think. has been scoring plenty at the lower levels but that just confirms why we let him go, he's a big lad who likes scoring against weaker defenders. Against proper CB's in the Aleague and he wont have the skillset to get around them
I think Watto might have been handy a few years ago when he was a settled mature player, but still with a bit of gas. But geez these numbers suggest someone better than the level. IMG_7490.jpeg310.55 KB Did the prem stop in 21 or he wasn’t getting selected?
He’s going to be 32. Sameish age as Woodsy, but without professional club conditioning staff, unless we get him in now.
Interesting call. Definitely someone who might have had a bit more to offer than we saw.
Edit: and the guys who have seen him recently have a few reasons why not.
He's definitely above the level, but he's also played as a striker in a prolific team that's been regularly above the level for most of that run, which inflates those numbers somewhat.
He's similar in many ways to his teammates Mata and Basalaj. All 3 guys up there in years now but have been dominant in local football. If the opportunities that exist now had been as extensive when they'd come through then they might have had different stories - but they've also not been without chances.

I like the idea but if he is 10kg over the odds, walking around to score those goals and not in favour of liposuction, then maybe no.
But if no-one else is coming I'm desperate enough and ignorant enough to at least think about it.
I think it was El Grap (who I always rated reading on here), who said that in his view Watto was a better player after he left the Nix. But that was probably 5 years ago.
Supyk is the backup and the club will hope he develops this season, behind Eze. They probably don't want an older guy like a Wastson, potentially slowing down young Luke S's progress, by taking playing mins off him.
Though can the Nix sell Supyk for a fee before his contract expires next June? Will he sign an extension, or prefer to become a free agent?
Might all depend how he goes at the U20 WC. Does have the UK passport.

If there were two teams 5 years ago, he would have been picked by someone. He's too good for the National League but not quite dynamic enough to take a punt on in the a-league. Seems like a good guy too!
He definitely improved a lot post Phoenix. Even now, it's just so easy for him.
If his Olympic coach returns to Christchurch United, who knows the big fella might get a gig in the new OFC Pro League if he's keen.
Edit - re Watson's character that video clip of him reading out, I think Patrick's scathing SM comments on him whilst at the Phoenix is hilarious. I'm sure Patrick still wanders around Welly hoping he will never bump into Hamish Watson on a dark night!

Yeah, he got some unjustified stick at the time. The way he addressed it was brilliant.
