pity Rollo hasn't really discussed anything deeper tha the obvious.
No 1 factor why Nix won't (or will always find it very hard to win the ALM) - their players budget compared to the bigger clubs. ie 80% plus toilet seats going forward will be won by either VUC, SFC or Melb City.
All have splurged again in the off season. Western United though proved it's possible to cause an upset, and buck this trend with some luck.
I mean the Mariners and Adelaide in particular have shown that it’s possible with a strong academy and smart foreign player recruitment .. so it’s possible, but just like in every league in football, the richer clubs tend to dominate coochiee

Thats it then we might as well pack it all in and give up and let Welnix save their money. Thankfully neither the team or Talay or more than a few fans take that defeatist attitude into the start of a season. Has been shown time and time again splashing the cash dosnt ensure success. I might be optimistic but much prefer to take that outlook into the start of aseason.
Has there been any promotion of the league start in NZ? Just told dad the game is on Sunday and he knew nothing about it. BT Sport here in the UK has not made any noise about it either which is odd.
I'll be a walk up. But cares. What I saw at practice was good enough. Waine hits a ball like the late Peter Lorimat at his prime playing age. 73mph was his recorded speed.

Seen quite a bit of promotion about memberships and the season itself but barely anything about the first game. Regardless, I’ll be there with temporary (cheers Flicket) print off season ticket in hand.
Talking about the potential crowd number for this weekend... It concerns me that the opening game on now looks to have about 3,000 people there. Can't be good signs for the league.

Ill be a walk up with a couple of others, but there literally been fudge all promotion. You wouldn’t even know we were playing let alone the leagues starting. Woeful stuff imo. I know the club is starting a fresh, but they managed to promote the other home games over the last couple of years pretty well.
Usually 10amish till 1ish. Before training is okay. During training watch from respectable distance. After training, ok to approach for autographs or a chat. These guys are so friendly and polite. Our new South American is small. With great turn. Wayne xan hit the skin off a ball. Dam he can hit it hard.

Thats not strictly true about promotion there have been generic A league ads running across both TV and Radio for a while now. Yep the A league one wasnt great but its more than i have heard in previous seasons from them. Also think in this instance the Phoenix need to be cut some slack given the staffing situation they have come from. I have had plenty of comments from people i see asking me if im excited about Sunday so they must be seeing it some where.
there's been plenty of noise about game one on social media, if a third of the people who follow the nix on FB actually turned up to games we have 15k there easily. I get that some of the followers arent in NZ or Wellington but there are plenty of "fans" that follow the nix that will find an excuse not to show up on game day.
117,205 people follow the nix page on FB alone, and they all now the league has started and the lineu and have made comments about their favourite players etc then theres at least 4 fan groups that I know of. 1/3 of these people fill the stadium, and that still leaves 80k out of towners,
Do we know if the 3000-odd includes memberships? That'll add a few.
Also, this is interesting. If Zawada is starting up front, presumably one of Kosta or Waine will be on the bench. Slightly surprising as Uffie tends to stick with players unless others put their hand up to start ahead of them. Could be a good sign that Zawada has caught Uffie's eye in training. Great that Lewis is fit too - do we reckon it'll be Lewis/Ugarkovic then? or Lewis/Pennington... image.png39.18 KB
Not sure if Waineo or Kosta will partner Oskar, but having Zawada fit and ready means we’ve got the options of either: Big Man/Litte Man (OZ/KB) or Target Man/Poacher (OZ/BW). Awesome options to have.
And also don’t fall into target man cliches. Zawada is decent with his feet from his highlights, and links play well. He can play on the counter. He doesn’t have to be a knockdown merchant.

Oh yeah I’m very glad he doesn’t appear to just be a big body up top, will be great if he can replicate some of the hold up play that Hooper was so good at.
Backbencher open tomorrow? Presume so, but normally closed on Sundays. Anyone know if and when? Or if not, where YF is gathering? (Apologies if already on this or another thread)
Tbh they always get awful crowds,. The Sydney Victory gsme is almsot a sell out and over 2,000 Vic fans travelling up.. it looks like the cricket is almost full, so yes a league wide issue and nix are not immune Monto
Crowd was awful for the united v city game last night too, I wonder what the other games will get. Could be a league wide problem.
