Neither him or Welnix are going to knock back Genoa. He's been very loyal to the Nix. Sort of ironic in way considering his famous uncle spent so much time in Europe. Alex trialled in Switzerland, before Rudan bought him back to Welly?
Still only 27. If the Nix do complete a Wellington fairytale triumph this year, and a Euro club did dangle a nice offer, why not have a crack up north. What's ever best for his AWs prospects will also come into it. I'm sure like most high level Kiwi footballers it would be a dream to play at a World Cup. But the AWs midfield will be hotly contested selection come 2026 if everyone is fit.

I guess the counter-argument to that for him staying is hes playing his best football here and is a guaranteed starter whereas moving overseas could end up with him not playing. And we've seen the All Whites selectors not turning their noses up on the best Kiwi performers in the A-League. There would be a decent argument he should be starting over Bell atm.

Think Rudan made him trial at the Phoenix to retain his employment.
I'm sorry, what is with all this Rufer to Genoa chat? Where'd that come from?
Go 1 page back in this thread. KP being strongly optimistic!! Though he knows his Italian football. Before long someone on here through the Chinese whisper network, will have it as an offical rumour.
And Genoa was just an example. I really thought more a long the lines of Empoli, but that would be unfair because Empoli will be Serie B next season. I do currently think that Rufer is Serie A quality, but I wouldn't see him in the top half of that table.

Careful KP, Pennington is going to get jealous ! :D

I'm 100% sure that Rufer could fit into to a Serie A side. I'm very familiar with some of the midfielders playing in the top few sides of Serie B. And currently Rufer is above their level. Pennington would currently fit at the top Serie B where these other guys I'm following are.
Opportunity is everything and I'm not sure if he'll get the opportunity(Rufer). I don't even know about his right to work in the EU as a Swiss national. But if life was fair, he would.
I hope Rufer stays at the Nix forever. As for our playing style, I don’t care if they keep playing the same way. Grinding out points over a whole season is how you finish on the podium. I just want to get two playoff games in Wellington. I just don’t care how they do it. One of my all time best football experiences was the Paul Ifill inspired playoff games ages ago. Plus Dome said a full house playoff game in Wellington would pay for the Nix for a whole year

Didn't Dome mean a full house in the regular season?
With the playoffs does the home team keep all the gate revenue, or do they need to split it with the team they are hosting plus APL?
I see the semi finals are over 2 legs. 1st & 2nd straight into the semis (get a week off), as 3rd hosts 6th & 4th hosts 5th in elimination finals.
So Nix could finish 1st or 2nd, and host only one playoff game (semi home leg). Either lose their two legged semi, or finish 2nd and have to travel to 1st for the grand final (if both 1st & 2nd win their semis). That's a bit rough.
So whilst finishing 1st or 2nd would be great, and obviously then a greater chance of hosting the final - 3rd or 4th ain't bad as likely get two home playoff games (elimination final & semi home leg).
Thanks for making that clearer. I know winning the grand final would be awesome but I would love us to finish first. I guess it’s my European way of looking at it where playoffs just don’t happen and finishing the season in first place gets all the kudos. Playoffs are fun and can be exciting but it can be a lottery. IMO topping the table at the end of the season is the ultimate.

don't know about now, but it used to be the FFA would take all the profits from a final.
I think the Stuff article was put out after the scans
Chief said in the press conference today that they still don't have the scans back and don't know how long he'll be out for. Was just the press going to a worst case scenario for clicks.

somehow I feel unlucky for OVH. The ball never balls goes his way when he takes the right option, but then he doesnt take the right option regularly enough.
He had a clear through on goal opportunity early in the second half but the ball carrier chose to pass it to the right wing where it was wasted. I got the feeling the other boys don't have enough faith in him (lets not forget his old man wasn't exactly prolific for a striker either).
I would have hooked Ball before him though. I really think A League is beyond Ball now.
Odd statement; I don’t think his old man ever played as a striker. Also not entirely sure that sort of thing is hereditary. But who knows, maybe Caleb Rufer is banging them in every week for Ray White Tigers in Northern League Social Div 3.
Good call, silly me, teach me for posting in the middle of the night with no sleep: I mixed his old man up with Fred DJ. Obviously Oscar's old man played very well in goal!

You might need even more sleep. His old man NEVER played in goal.
I wonder if that is where some of the OvH hate comes from; people thinking he only got the gig because of who his old man is(n’t)
* Not referring to you Marto, your commentary has come across as balanced and “as you see it”, but some others not so. And don’t feel bad, even FIFA got that wrong for a time.

His Dad played most of his career in Europe too as I recall.coochiee

Shane Rufer had a decent career in Switzerland, & we all know about his Uncle.
