Despite the absolute mess that was the middle 10mins of this half, our very young defenders have been very calm and done well-ish playing a tactic that doesn't suit their abilities.
Also, Conchie has been quite handy since coming on.

You can't be serious, we looked defensively shaky all game. Those goals were the dam bursting, not an aberration

ish, but they've been setup to fail with our high-line tactic.
Also, the protection from the midfield has been  non-existent.

I think the whole team has been poor apart from Piper and Eze. The back three probably our worst. Chief should have kept Piper up the middle.

Disagree. We had plenty of chances. Or attack has failed to score enough.
We’ve had plenty of chances but not enough composure. We should’ve won.

Nata on a yellow for ten minutes would’ve helped too. Free kick for Conchie and a yellow on his backpack might’ve been nice too.

Boo. For a multitude of reason, we just cant put it together.
But I'm starting to hope that Saint Nix brings us a new manager this festive season.

For those who want to blame our defensive performance on having a few senior players missing. A good coach would adjust the setup to help protect the young defensive backline but instead we are just playing the exact same way we have played all season. Call it naiive or call it negligent, it isn't good enough

Chief trying to play a strategy without the players to do it is a repeat of last season and is a total failure. If the kpi to be sacked hasn't been met yet then surely it doesn't exist and he gets a freeride.

Hard to see where/how this team can improve. I don't think they can even with players coming back. It'll be a painful season...

Yep he needs to be moved on. Wrong players. Wrong tactics. This team is going backwards currently.

If it's gonna be painful at least change the manager so we get something to hope for. Because we know from last season that chief won't change anything till the chance of the top6 is mathematically impossible.

Idk, I think I’d rather we try play aggressive and see if we can do it with the team put out which we really should’ve been closer in the scoreline with some of the chances. Than setting up as a 5-3-2 with conchie into the midfield and the wingbacks not pushing as far forward, soaking up pressure and then playing it long like a version of how we played last season.

I’d like to know how you would’ve set up the team then to be more defensively sound with the players avaible?

Someone pick Eze up!

I thought Eze and Piper ran a lot, but them and Armiento missed the run, made space but lost the ball. Don’t think they are blameless.

I think we needed midfield subs. We tired and they hit us.

Conchie was good when he came on. Screw you King.

We’re choosing to play a difficult exciting game. I like the way we’re playing. I’d like a bit more execution, but I don’t think it’s impossible.

I think we’re close to clicking. A mini run in this league puts us top 4.

They have some impressive young players the Jets.
Taylor, Adams, Badolato, Dobson. Even Natta is only 23.

Better than our young group. Clayton Taylor all class at making that lovely final pass.

It was identified before the season started that Chiefy hadn't replaced Rojas or Chico.

This is what the casual fan will read. The Phoenix brand is destroyed, it will take years of good performances to get back to old glory.

We need stopout here to give us some mature guidance now…

Their defense was a little more experienced than ours. Their attack, especially with their cup run, was a lot more coordinated than ours with players in new positions. And Armiento not playing that well. Good shot, but his delivery was a bit off. When they got in or near the box we lost composure and they swarmed. They made very good shooting chances. We were trying to make space individually and getting shut down.

In midfield I thought we were better tbh. Maybe defensive cover from the midfield was slightly better from them, too, to prevent us making space for the shot.

Yes - and if we win our next 15 matches, we'll be top of the table! Jolly times!

Better, more of them and more used to playing together.

LBS and Rodriguez are 3-4 years younger and far from clinical in their choices.

Najjirine was shut down convincingly today, huh!

I feel bad for Chiefy because he has boxed himself into a corner with this system. It isnt working, it probably wont work, but his comments thus far this season dont really allow him to rip it up and start again without making himself look silly

Love Piper but he needs an off season working solely on his touch

It's glaringly bad sometimes isn't it. If he can somehow fix it (long shot) he'd be bloody handy up top.

I don't normally agree with a lot of what you say, but you are 100% right here. Best XI on the park in this system and it can be effective, but with the outs we've got, and the weak state of our bench, surely you look to make it harder for the opposition?

Newcastle could have had 5 today and we would have no right to complain...

There is clearly no plan B in play at all, mistakes leading to goals seemingly in every game. Its all just airy-fairy crap being served up all too often. Surely something is going to give very shortly...

Not sure if Piper and Eze work together for a full game. They're very similar profiles with how they play. Eze and Kosta would've been a great partnership, a striker with a more composure on the ball and nimble would compliment Eze a lot better.
Definitely Piper coming on to create chaos in the back end of games is how the partnership should be used.

I don’t give a f about the brand or the casual fan or whatever.

We were in a tough situation with injuries and put up a fight. Against a team that are FFA Cup champions and beat Auckland. We should’ve scored in the first half and we should’ve been more clinical.

We tried Piper and Eze together. Perhaps we should’ve waited? I don’t know. They both played about 75% at best, imo.

I know I’m gonna support Rufes and the boys until the season is done.

We’re on a hiding to nothing. Smith had a good half. Conchie a good 20. LKH and Sheridan did lots of good things.

Imo, Armiento got space because Najjirine was marked out of it and failed to use it well first half. And perhaps our positioning in the box wasn’t great too- Armiento forced the save, but even with 3 players in the box no one was there to tuck it home, even knowing he’s shooting across the keeper with a left foot.

I felt the game was there for a player to change for us. But no one did. That Smeltzy composure. Jink to the right. Bury it.

Don’t hate me for supporting the team. For wanting and hoping they can win.

The game was entertaining, but of poor quality in terms of the finishing. Both teams should of had more... but we still deserved to lose.

I was Chief out last year, and I still am. The good win against Adeliade had me doubting that, but only a little. Newcastle were bottom of the league, now the only thing keeping us off the basement floor is our GD, which considering we haven't had a clean sheet in 18 odd games is a miracle in itself.

I feel for him this season, more than last where I think he was tactically awful. He's tried to do something new, but it hasn't worked. Injuries are not helping, nor suspensions... but he built this team. It's his squad.

No fans (crowds are shocking), no derby points, no plan B... he needs to go. Even if it is to give fans the pretense the club is being proactive.

Exactly. It was the second derby last year which derailed our season. The players are not blameless by a long time but the buck stops with the Chief and right now this club is in desperate need of a shot in the arm. The league is still incredibly tight, so a new manager bounce could send us up the table quickly. I think if Welnix are to sack him, now is the time.
