I've only seen flashes of this game (probably a good thing, based on these comments!), but it looked like Oluwayemi won us the game with a few top saves?
Shame Kosta couldn't bring up the big 100 at home, but it'll definitely happen!

All over - 2:1 it is. Jets must be kicking themselves, as they were a slightly better team today. I am happy that our defence held apart from that single goal that the Jets definitely deserved. And thank goodness Tim Payne was available to play today.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
Jets unlucky not to fly back to Aussie with something. All in all I'm unhappy at how we played, BUT (and that's a huge but) I love the fact that we scored two very different goals. Our usual tactic is ball in the space for Kostam so we showed we are at least trying something different. It was hot out there, but we were very flat. LBS showed a lot of promise, shame ue didn't get a few more minutes. I like Walker more and more each time I see him...but he needs to be more clinical. Piper has great presence but needs to learn to do the basics right first.
Today MotM was Josh O, followed by Payne and Kosta.
That w As so friggen ugly notcsyre whats happened to the style of football Chief keeps talking about but its about time we saw it. Also very disapointed to hear of the shoddy treatment of Ball didnt realize the Phoenix would do that to some one who has been a loyal servant. Realize players move on and fall out of favour but somehow i just expected more especially when he was asked play in way he wasnt torally familar with last season.
I feel so bad for OVH in particular but also Ball that they have to watch Piper, Walker & LBH get tons of minutes playing on the wing/in attack. None of them deserve more than cameos off the bench there. OVH would be doing much better than all of them. Heck, Ishige hasn't looked great in recent weeks either, other than his overhead goal.
Our midfield isn't working, Retre or Nagasawa should be dropped for al-Taay and the other one can be dropped when Conchie is fit again.
Hoping LKH or Hughes can come back in and replace Sheridan, he did ok today but surely not the long term answer at CB.
I haven't watched a lot of non Nix games, are the refs letting a lot of physicality go across the league? I feel like opponents should be getting yellows in a lot of our games.

Just got back from the game, was also working this game too.
Let me tell you something. When Kosta scored you guys went freaking BALLISTICK. My stand wasn't even directly under the fever and we still couldn't hear each other over the initial roar.
To be fair seeing the goal later I can fully understand why, easily goal of the week
3 Points is positive. But we may played 10-15min good football and fell back to garbage after the Retre goal. Piper was free on the side and waved like a madman, no one passed to him because they know he is not good enough, his touches and simple layoffs are horrible, is this really the best young player in the National league? I also thought Rufer lost the plot, I can’t remember any decent vertical pass. There is something wrong in this team.

Re David Ball, I think to be fair the Nix are possibly one of the most accommodating and forgiving clubs in the world when it comes to mistakes, poor performances etc and staying loyal/giving players opportunities. But at the end of the day it's a business and if you're not good enough you don't get to play. Be nice if the club could clarify what's going on exactly. Maybe they want to invest in the future and give the minutes to the kids which would make sense.
I remember thinking how useless Josh Nisbet at the Mariners used to be a few seasons ago and couldn't understand why on earth they kept playing him. Think it was the days where they got the wooden spoon and we hammered them 8:1. Well, a few seasons later the kid lifted the premiers plate and a-league trophy with the team... There's hope yet.

I think we are playing the same style as last year but without the control in midfield that Kraev gave us, nor the extra drive we got from Old. And without quite the authority in defence that Surman and Paulsen gave us. And without the occasional special sauce from Zawada. Rojas would have made us a better attacking side but he's barely been on the field. And Ishige, Retre and Nagasawa might have proved better than they have shown so far.
So the same style as last year, with less control, less bite and less authority on defence. And, so far, without the intended benefit of Rojas.
That said, there is still time. We've got a lot of kids getting minutes. Rojas hopefully eventually will get a decent run of games. If we finish strong we could still have a good season.

The pitfalls of being a utility player for Piper to be honest. What's that, four positions he's been played in now in appearances for us? RB, Right sided CB, LM & CF? I get that Chiefy wants players who can play multiple positions, but I'd argue that he's asking too much far too soon.
Good kid, lion hearted, and strong as an ox. Passing needs a work on, but he will be a useful player for us. This chopping and changing is not doing him any favours early on in his Nix career though if I'm being honest.
Good summary. We dont have quite the personel to play our A game for 90 minutes. But you cant complain about the effort today. Everyone ran and ran and the youngsters gave their all. As long as everyone is trying we should support them 100%. The kids will only get better. Big ups for our keeper Josh. Man of the match for me !
Neither currently at starting 11 standard IMHO.cheesecake
I've wondered if both the Ball and OVH situations might be one and the same – the club adjusting to a new financial reality and an increasingly strict adherence to a business model in which future sales potential is held as a priority over even fielding the best possible matchday squad. There may be an imposition upon Chief that he'll have to work with in which minutes might be dictated on the basis of age and contract status, where Ball and OVH being off contract at the close of the season leaves them behind prospects like Walker by default and even in the case that the former two might be viewed as objectively preferable selections on the day. It's all speculation, of course, but there may be metrics forcing tough choices in terms of which of the more experienced players he can deploy.

Honestly I'm amused at how some people forgot how games were last year - read back through the match day threads, we spent a lot of time hanging on with last ditch defending under pressure for a so many matches, but more often than not came away with 'ugly' wins like this. Nothing wrong with the team outside of a plan-B in terms of goal-scoring and I'm sure thats something keeping Cheify up at night. I'll take the win and sleep easy any day regardless.
Sorry to see LBS subbed at half time. He hung on to the ball under severe pressure, and harassed the defense well when he got the chance. Strong skilful player, who might have had more chances second half. Piper OTOH gave away possession cheaply several times. Strong, and good at getting his head on the ball but needs to improve his touch and passing. Newcastle unlucky today.

Yeh, I like his play too. But they'll be managing his game time minutes, building him up. If he starts next week, which he did enough to earn imho, I think he'll get closer to 60.
Piper is a scary giveaway a game guy at the moment. And otherwise a bit rough around the edges. But adds some physicality and seems to have enough pace.
Walker really makes a nuisance of himself. And quick.
Happy to see them all getting some time. Would be happier if Rojas was.

I hated how we played last year. Endless passing sidewards, backwards, slow decision making. We where overarching on xG factor and when that luck broke we lost the title. Like someone said above, we play pretty much like last year without the panache. We also got promised something different. And beyond a few minutes after the break I still can’t see much progress.

Agree, we were basically pretty lucky last season judging the stats.
The counter attacking style of football can work, but it invites so much pressure and you sacrifice so much of the ball that you inherently give the opposition the upper hand throughout the whole match.
I just think it's a sub-optimal tactic in the long run.
Conversely, look at how Corica gets his team's playing. Very high and fast press to win the ball up the field, and then spread the ball fast in attack when there's space for skillfull players to take advantage of.
Obviously I love our team and we have some great talent. But watching Auckland this season, and even tonight, and they are just miles ahead of us. I don't necessarily think it's to do with lack of talent (although I do think they have better players on aggregate). More so, I think our tactics are just wrong.
Easy for me to say as an 'armchair' coach. But I'm not a fan of counter attacking football and sitting deep in general. Way too passive and pretty hard to watch at times.
Kept them out. Forget the stats, a win is on the board and a good bounce back from last week. Will have been a good confidence builder for the younger ones.
Quite a concern going forward about Rojas, but this is a team with a long background of battling along regardless of losing a few key players here and there.

I think what you are trying to say, is that without those players and that attitude, we are complete and utter shyte. Todays effort didnt resemble football, or entertainment. No individuality, no surprise, no initiative, no positivity. It was formulaic overcoached crap.
