why would we want the players to reinforce any physchological edge WSW think they might have by giving them an ego boost....

Any reference to WSW's victory will be mis-interpreted whether it's from the Phoenix or the fans.
A guard of honour in Wellington? You're having a laugh! Let Sydney City be embarrassed by that tribute.

So at the end of the day, what is the general consensus about what we are going to do or not do?

Personally, I dont give a shit about them or their RBB, all I see is a reincarnation of the racial anc nasty issues that haunted the old NSL. Sure it is an achievement winning this cup but its not like the proper Champions League for quality sides...yet.

If the Cup is on display during the warm up, I'd enjoy a Vinnie Lia shot to knock it over, bit like when Stan Bowles did it to Sunderland after they won the FA cup in 1973. But that is just me.

When we're leading them at half time the fever should scramble to either side of the tunnel for a guard of honour. Would be hilarious

Yep. Do it after the game when we beat them.

From my point of view it shouldn't be acknowledged here at all in any form.  We don't get a chance to play in it, so why should we care.  Let them celebrate when they have their next home game.

I reckon the club might do it just to get into the FFA's good books since the club license hasn't been extended yet. I don't think it should be done though. It's basically saying "congratuations on winning a competition we aren't allowed to compete in".

You pack of mean spirited bastards..... I don't think there should be any great celebration or anythign but there should be an acknowledgement from the Nix organisation and congratulations offered for what is a pretty special achievement. i know all the stuff about us not allowed to be in it etc but they are the champions of the league we play in and the win is good for the A League. We could then go and beat them just to make a point. Now that's sport.....

I think you may have the wrong end of the stick. I don't think anyone begrudges them acknowledgement and a well done at all but to line up in a guard of honour, in our own stadium??!!?? Average Jo Public will wonder what the fuck is going on and why we are saluting the away team, our opponent.

Could you see Waitakere lining up in a guard of honour for ACFC or any other team lining up for them? Like fuck they would.

They won, acknowledge it, pat them on the back but thats all.

If its at half time though there's a good chance it'll be on telly. Where as after the game Sky will just do their usually transmission cut halfway through Dewhurts final words before the players have even left the pitch.

Even better would be if one of their guys gets sent off..

I suppose I don't mind if they are announced to the crowd as Champions of Asia, but for our players to do a guard of honour is going too far.  The ACL competition is basically a nothing to me - you couldn't even watch it on TV here.

If we had a friendly against the Saudi team, we wouldn't do it.  Similarly we wouldn't if we played Real Madrid this week.  It just seems to me that this has arisen because two commentators were having a laugh during the Victory game.

You're a bunch of bitter bastards.

There's nothing wrong with acknowledging a great achievement for the league. It's called sportsmanship.

You're right that there's no particular reason to do it - but that's why it would show us to be a class above them other c*nts.

If we could play in the Oceania champions league or the Chatham cup would anyone in Aussie give us a guard of honour? And what's the point of guards of honour anyway, why cant we just shake their hands afterwards and say well done. The answer is its not about us, its an FFA wankfest and it demeans us to be a part of it
