Anyone know why a book on Rufer's career has never been
published?
From experience, the only books that sell in this country are rugby books. If you were dealing with Wynton you'd need to employ a writer to ghost write it. Wynton would want a packet and then, because he is a Christian, he would not say anything bad or controversial about anyone.
So, cost of Wynton, the book writer, and the fact there would
be absolutely nothing in it that would be worth reading (like the
stewardess story when he was in the under-18 team), no publisher
would touch it.
It was before he turned God-botherer, and is only a rumour. But he had something of a reputation as a young sword, including, apparently, bedding one of the stewardesses from the flight to South America when he was in the NZ under-18s.
But you didn't hear it here, and my lips are sealed.
I cant lip read very well dai!
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
Oh there are rumours that Billy Harris is going to write the book
and I have a ton of stuff collected from when we used to shoot over
from Norwich to Bremen to catch him play in the Bundesliga,
that is just waiting for someone to use. I've spoken to Wynton
about this a few times and he said that the book is on the cards
but the timing isn't right. It will come one day but hopefully it
won't have John Matheson's name as co-writer. The so-called Sunday
News football writer has about as much credibility as a well-oiled
and greased Knights management. He knows jack about the game and I
don't know why anyone buys the Sunday News for football coverage.
Wynton had some wild times at Norwich City too
pre-the-born-again era. Evidently he could give Zorro a run for his
money....
And ex Canary and Miramar midfielder Peter Mendham might have
a few stories to tell, although these days he's locked up in
the nick for attempting to murder his girlfriend.
Wynton Rufer is the man and one of New Zealands best ever
footballers. It would be good if a book about him was released.
