Too late, but we do have a shortlist and you'll all get to see it in the next Pandemic.  Due out shortly.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Richie Gray should take it out.......giving it to someone that is 11 is silly........he can have it next year......or when he grows some hair.

I don't know any of them, so don't have a barrow to push but I reckon the earlier you make the investment (of time or resources) in a player or team the greater influence it is likely to have

Thats a valid point, especially here in NZ. The sooner our promising young'ns get accepted into overseas academies etc, the better it is for their development.

I kind of like the Waikato lad... got an aim, developing his game, a tour to Brazil and reminds everyone that the Fever isn't just for Wellingtonians.

True but someone of the age that might benefit now from the experience of training with the Phoenix surely would be a better bet.
hey might even be that next youth spot for the nix 08 an 11year old juggler has plenty of time to develope

I agree with Hard News
picking the Waikato guy will show that were not just thinking  about our own back yard, after all there is a huge supporter base out side of wellington for the Phoenix

I noticed on the NZFC youth site he scored against auckland the other week

Used to get to school with Daniel Finlay. Had buckets of pace and was ultra competive.

Was diagnosed with Diabetes when he was 12 and had some sort of tumor in his leg when he was 13 that resulted from a dodgy soccer tackle, so I would imagine if he gets the scholarship it will be some sort of minor success story.

Talked to him about 8 months ago and he has a job as an apprentice mechanic so he seems to pretty dedicated to going somewhere in life.

I can see that the person most likely to go further is the oldest nominated. If this is a youth sponsorship, shouldn't it go to the most promising young player, someone who will grow our team's depth over time, and make sure that they aren't lost to other sports or have to give up rep level sport to work?

another spin on this is that young people are more impressionable

so a vote for Riley might inspire more kids to fire up for football

it would also be more of a good news mainstream media story

(like i said, i don't know any of the young uns and wish them all well, but i do want any extra ounce of benefit for football that this award can bring)

the alternative view seems to be that going beyond the wellington region would be good for YF and football - but i can't see it getting the same traction in the media

Tigers, are you CNUT in disguise!?

People should vote for who they think is the most worthy not who they think is most likely to get us in the papers!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I don't care about us, Smithy, i care about getting football in the papers, on the news, and in peoples' heads

but i can see your point

(Oi Cnut, have a word with him )

Only 'cos you keep popping in to check on how the Waikato boy's doing!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Alright folks, I'm closing this.

Everyone has made good cases, but I've had to delete a few posts in here today - some due to the  the reactions of others and some for the reactions themselves.

To make sure it is a more fitting tribute, we're in lock down on this until Sunday night (and after if need be).

Good luck to all five of you, superb nominations and worthy individuals.
