following today's game looks like Siggy and Manny are suspended for 8 cards

Timmo and Dura poised on 7 and Lia on 6

(this assumes that the a-league disciplinary table hasn't been updated following the match today) edit - table now up to date

all four of those players picked up a yellow iirc so a rest for Siggy and Manny and looking shakey for the other 3 lads

Tim didn't get one tonight, so he stays on 6, but Durante goes to 7 and Lia's tonight takes him to 6.

cheers LF1 - must have been my global sense of suspension doom and Timmo's rep that led me to that conclusion

hopefully Jade North is fired-up and ready to roll

Manny's loss hhmm - would we risk an attacking 4-4-2 with Timmo and Vinnie centre and Rojas and Ward out wide??

Maybe Diego could cover him?

I really don't think RH has too many options.  It probably has to be...

what are the rules come play-offs?
Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
FFA A-League regulations say yellow cards set to zero for play offs, no carrying over from the season.
3 yellow cards = 1 match suspension during play offs.

So for example, what if Timmy Brown picks up his 8th yellow in our final round robin game and we make the playoffs?

So if Dura gets one next game, that means both him and Siggy will be missing for the one after...?

Ouch...

In that case Dura would miss the last one against NQF as well ..Ouch is right!

In that case, as I read it it wouldn't count against him...unless its a serious incident and the disciplinary committee, (or what ever they are called) is involved (think K.Muscat).

Yeah but at least Siggy would be back to partner North, it would be the game v Sydney that there would be no Siggy or Dura.

Musa anyone?

No, my understanding is that in this case they carry over.  Picking up an 8th yellow in the regular season means a two-match suspension, so if, say, Durante or Brown got an 8th yellow against NQF, they'd miss the first two playoff games, or the first playoff game and the first game of next season.

Bugger.Yes you are right LP1.
On re-viewing the rules, it seems all suspensions due after 8 yellows do carry forward, just the number of cards does not.

Even more frustrating is that some of the yellows some of the guys have picked up have been for bloody stupid acts.

I think we're in some serious trouble with these suspensions.

At least Manny and Siggy have got theirs out of the way and will be there for NQF and the playoff games if any.

Dura is on 7 and if he gets one vs. Adelaide then he'll miss the NQF game and be set for the playoffs if we make them. If he gets on vs. Sydney or NQF though, he'll miss playoff game(s).

Brown and Lia are on 6 each, so it'll take them at least until Sydney to get their two.

All 5 of these players are pretty much the first 5 on the team sheet each week so we're going to seriously need them for these games, we could be looking at playing NQF without Durante, Brown or Lia.

Injured last time I checked, and oddly enough, I reckon if he was match fit he would possibly be the best option to cover Flores with Manny out given Brown and Lia's tendency t throw themselves into stupid tackles.

He should be fit with ASB challenge and all that shouldn't he? Or has he been out again lately?

Just read the article on the front page saying he was on first team stand-by so presume he's ok, the last training I went to he was doing light stuff on the sideline, I don't think there have been youth games since then.

After Lia went off. it was interesting and nice to see how a more attacking line-up worked well against Adelaide, even if they weren't using tiredness as an excuse.

Same again v Sydney?

With Manny and Siggy back, I'd be very tempted to leave Tim Brown out of the game on Sunday.  That's provided he avoids a yellow on Wednesday of course.

How long will Lia be out with his hamstring - will he miss Sunday?

possibly a good idea

related point - if siggy were a bit more mobile/nippy it would be interesting to see him in centre-mid at this level

a sort of more tank-like version of Sir Manny-moosecat

This. Am I correct... suspensions carry over, cards get wiped, and two yellows gets a week off in the playoffs?

When the final whistle blows on Sunday, all cards are wiped.  Everything that happens before that carries over.

Ah, all good.  Cheers Tigers, LF1.

So really only have to worry about Tim (with Lia out for Sydney).

And of course none of the lads gets red mist moments on Sunday (Siggie and Manny take note).
