what kind of impact would this have on Team Wellington?  Would there be funding/desire/support for two Wellington based sides in the NZFC next season?

Different models, different aims... as long as the matches don't clash those going to TeeDubs that I know would almost certainly do both.

From a recent article, it sounds like the Nix team will play as curtain openers to the main team at the RoF. Considering TW made the effort to ensure its home matches didn't clash with Phoenix games, I'd assume the same would happen this year.

That could be a Negative or a positive. I mean - its kinda like a local derby. Not really but I think that Team Wellington would enjoy playing in the stadium in front of thousands of local fans.
Surely thatd be a step up above the support they had this year.

Still to be ratified by NZF and FIFA.  So still a work in progress.

The youngsters who have been filling in have been making up the numbers rather than being in on trial.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

How hard and long is it to have "special circumstance" policy, ratified it and shove them under that?

Not hard at all but there are quite a few stake holders.

Could there be a chance of a youth/ reserve team in the central league?

Wrong time of year.  And the standard isn't really what they'd want.

What about a 16/17/18 year olds/ academy side?

An idea could be for the nix to build up a club structure of teams e.g. lyk most european clubs do from 12/ 14/ 16 etc???????????

Thinking about it, us having a team in the NZFC is not what we want at all.  Unless we can get a youth team into Australia's NYL then we should forget about it for now and try again next season.  Because if we have an NZFC team and then the opportunity for a NYL team presents itself what will we do?  Ditch the NZFC team after pumping hundreds of thousands (possibly more) into it? loyalgunner2009-06-08 18:01:24

Do both!!!.  I doubt we could have a NYL team untill the nxt tv deal is done and all the aussie clubs are finaincial sound/viable. Best bet is to play with what we have been given - NZFC

Why not ?

1. You whine about there NZFC not having enough matches, so it resolves that.
2. You whine the Phoenix do nothing for New Zealand Youth it fixes that.
3. You whine about a lack of media coverage for the NZFC. It fixes that

Just what are you whines now, that someone is willing to put up the dollars to resolve the challenges ?

FFS Loz, new standards of grey and miserable.

1. 'couldn't afford' - Team Wellington couldn't afford it because of NZ football's incompetence.  Not local administration.
2. 'media coverage' - If you had read the Pignata plan you would have seen that the plan is to play as televised curtain raisers at the stadium seeing as Sky already have cameras there.
3. 'NZ Yoof' - the party line whenever the Phoenix sign a player that wasn't born in New Zealand is that they ignore NZ players.  Well this plan has 6 or more young New Zealand players playing each week in the NZFC and training with a professional club each week... that is an additional 6 that aren't playing NZFC now... not to mention the kiwi's not playing each week for the first team.

I'm pretty sure those running City and Waitakere are all over the idea, and I'm sure the players at all sides love the idea of being viewed by the A-League sides.

I really struggle to see anything negative about the concept.

Sounds good enough to me.

But it is a bit funny that the NZFC sides who have access to the O-league pathway are acting as a curtain raiser to an A-League game.

The NZFC would feels so inadequate and naked. But at least it will be totally exposed in front of the cameras and bigger crowds.

Sounds like a great plan to me, News. What needs to be in place or needs to change..
and who needs to do what ...to actually make it happen?
