Basically a straight swap for Kelli Brown, who has headed in the opposite direction, to Perth.

Hopefully it works out for both of them this ALW season.

Nice! Happy with this signing, it seems like a good sign that we can lure former players back to the Women's team.

Would this be the first former Wahinix player to leave and come back? Not including NZ national league moves or anything? Or am I forgetting someone?

Kelli Brown in the inaugural season squad, released for season 2, but back for last season, season 3.

Paige Stachell (Unattached FC?) might be a candidate to come back from overseas.

Likewise Betsy Hassett maybe one day. Having (or had?) a baby this year, presumably in Iceland where her partner is from. I guess she's most likely to resume her football in Iceland next year, if she returns to the game.

The ALW is a poorly paid, mostly young player development type league. You are unlikely to see the likes of Clegg, Fraser, Taylor, Wisnewski return to it anytime soon if ever.

Does this create a weird dynamic with the team when two of the players are in a relationship?  What if there is a horrible break up.

Such a dynamic isn't too uncommon in the women's game.

Satchell was so poor last time I wouldn't have her back.

Phoenix need to be careful not just to take back/sign anyone that's played for the Ferns or overseas... they need to fit with what we want to do.

Rolston another example of this.

Or women's sport in general. Married cricket couple Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu were in the White Ferns together for years.

Where it can get tricky is when one of the couple gets dropped by the coach. The remaining half of the couple not taking it well. This was one rumoured factor in some of the Matildas, getting the FFA to drop Alen Stajcic as Matildas coach back in the day. Rumoured. Could be completely false. And there were other rumoured factors as well, like disgruntled parents etc etc

Another example of a sort is Abby Erceg. She and her life partner Carson Pickett got traded together from North Carolina Courage to Racing Louisville. I guess it would have been hard to transfer one out without the other.

Pickett is well known in the USA for playing high level sport, when born without a left forearm and hand. Sorry off topic.

Satchell I think is still okay for the ALW, but her Ferns days are likely over. Don't forget from 2025 the Nix will have to compete with the new Auckland ALW team for NZ's best domestic talent. The Academy as yet isn't producing the same stream of A League ready recruits as the mens. Plus this new womens league in the States could mean last season's influx of cheapest Nth Americans was a one off, not to be repeated.

Rolston was injured when playing for us. Only looked like she was at 80%. has since been undergoing back surgeries that have potentially ended her career.
Bad recruitment at the time by that coach.

In my experience, having two partners playing together can result in a level of communication on the pitch which is almost ESP-like.

As to breaking up, I asked a former Football Fern about that and she kind of chuckled and said "we can all be grown-ups".

I think I saw a clip on YouTube of the ball deflecting off Pickett's stump, the ref calling "hand ball", and Pickett yelling back "no hand"!

Similar scenarios starting to happen across men's and women's football. Couple Douglas Luiz and Alisha Lehmann, formerly Aston Villa, transferred to Juventus's men's and women's teams respectively this summer.
