I read that player's tribune article. Was very light on the actual detail of the drone spying practice that was going on, and mostly just a recounting of the personal experience of Mander after Lombardi was caught red handed.

But Mander basically says she was aware of the practice (obviously) but that she herself wasn't directing it, and that her awareness of the practice was such that she did not even know Lombardi was going to be doing drone spying that day. She essentially, without saying it directly, is stating that Priestman was directing it.

This obviously contradicts the initial narrative spun by Canada Soccer & Priestman when the story first broke that this was a case of overzealous assistants doing this of their own volition without her knowledge. And this isn't news, this narrative fell apart almost immediately at the time.

The rest of the article is all a bit too serious and "woe is me" in my opinion. Yeah she got thrown under the bus, hung out to dry and her Olympics experience was ruined but that is the risk you run by being complicit in such egregious cheating.

Where are you seeing this being implied? I read the article too and didn't get the impression that that is what Mander was saying at all.
If anything, she seemed to make it quite clear that she felt it was unfair that - while 14 staff members or so were implicated in the scandal - only herself, Lombardi and Bev were named and shamed publicly.

"Another thing I want to be very clear about. Some media wrote that Joey reported directly to me. He did not. We both reported to the head coach. The head coach reported to the CEO.

Others said that I directed Joey. Again, I did not."

This is saying that Lombardi reported directly to Priestman, i.e. she was directly responsible for him and what he did.

The biggest cheating scandal in Women’s football history and it’s not to be mentioned because Bev’s on resurrection mission with the little old Nix? What did people expect?

I expect it's going to get a lot more mention. We haven't even started hearing the Aussie pundits chiming in about it yet.

100% agree on giving this a rest. She screwed up. Got punished and served her penalty. Get over it.
The womens Nix side is probably going to give us way more joy and success than the mens side. Theres certainly more buzz and optimism for the womens team IMO.
Surely dronegate is not going to be regularly rehashed all season long

No because its already been done to death or did you miss that. Just dont see the need at all to keep banging on about it. She has been punished for just dont see why it needs to be brought up constantly.

It's called "Double Jeopardy" - Some fans are not going to let it go until they have their pound of flesh.
You are correct. Crime, Time, Punishment completed. Let it go.

I wonder if it was done to another national team if Phoenix fans would really care about it all.

Correct. But it is in the past and the punishment has been paid. Time to move forward instead of backwards.

People can move at whatever pace they want without people telling them how they should to be fair

True, but you know how some people just can't leave a stone unturned forever and a day. We need to get over this and move ahead.

True, but if they feel they simply can’t forgive Bev yet then they also need to make a decision about how that plays out in practice: do they stop supporting the Wahinix altogether while she’s in charge, or do they continue to support the team despite their misgivings about the coach?

It’s 27 days until our first match so time is running out to decide.

They can move forward (or not) at whatever pace they want. But they have zero immunity from people saying what they like about that.

If someone is going to "drone on" about this in a forum that is tired of hearing about it, they'll get increasingly annoyed feedback telling them where to shove it.  And that's fine too.
