None of the articles have explained how to pronounce "Vlok".
Is it a silent V?
Two syllables?
Usually it's the first question asked at a press conference, but scholarship players wouldn't get one.

I had a friend with the same surname and they pronounced it like flock.

If it's a Dutch name then that would be correct

Wasn't sure which thread to post this in.

This season can't come soon enough, especially after the sharkshow that was the men last night.

How many spots left to fill in the women's squad?

When Vlok’s signing was announced they said she was our 20th player “with the final few signings to be made before the squad assembles for pre-season training in September.”

I think the full squad size is 23, is that right? Still hoping we’ll get Nat Olson but guess we’ll see.

I see Lake and Longo have been playing for Cash-Tech's team in the past few weeks (along with Lara Wall), I assume talks are ongoing to get Longo back, I wonder about Lake now? 🤔

Gilly said in an interview a few weeks back that they were a few days away from confiming the last visa signing. But as things have gone quiet on that front that option my have fallen through.

I'm expecting 3 more signings.
Visa attacking player
Attacking midfielder. Longo or other local NZ or Aus player
Rebecca Lake. She scored a pretty impressive headed goal last weekend. Would have impressed the new coach.

Got told they have talked to Longo but the thinking was she is going to stay retired. Sadly

To her credit. She said she didn't want to stand in the way of younger NZ talent getting opportunities. If that's the case then big ups to her.
But it will be ironic if they bring in a high profile Aussie to fill that spot in the squad.

Van Der Meer, Lake..

I'd say we need one of them at their fittest/best.

They could be better in the air and more adaptable than Barry I suspect, and I've always been Barry's top fan.

Deven Jackson has left the Newcastle Jets to pursue another opportunity in the A league. She would be a good fit at the Nix if Longo is not returning. She scored 6 goals last season for the jets.

This from her Instagram
So grateful for my time in Newcastle - I owe it all to the club, the staff, the girls, the community and of course the beaches (& baths). Will miss the Newy lifestyle but excited to play at home

Though she is currently playing her club footy in Victoria. So not sure where home is for her

Also I see Whinham got another well taken goal over the weekend. She has been scoring regularly in the NPL NSW comp. Good signs for the Nix.

Re Jackson sounds like another Nix ALW signing me.

I think this is her first time playing NPL football in Victoria, so to me referring to NZ as 'home' makes more sense than Melbourne.

Chloe Logazo (Berryman) is there star player. The Taranto sisters also highly rated.

Edit. Berryman will get picked up by another Melbourne club. Some of WU better attacking players have already left to play in US & Canada. Zimmermann and Johnson. Grace Maher is another top player there. Has been playing in defence though where we have plenty of options.

Born, grew up, and went to school in Auckland, probably happy not be moving again, such is the transient life of a footballer.

What is interesting is the new Newcastle coach this year is her former coach at Eastern Suburbs so I thought there might have been some connection to stay in Newcastle.

There's a really good interview with Tessel Middag here in which she talks football, climate, sustainability, women's rights and the importance of speaking up. The gulf between Saudi money she was offered vs what she was paid in the Scottish game is phenomenal and I feel fortunate to have her heading to Wellington. What a star.

You'll need to translate it to English but most browsers have a button these days.

I think Macey is coming back to Welly soon whether just for a visit or something more? Posted a highlight tiktok of her time at Utah and a friend from Wellington in the comments said "can't wait to squeeze you" unless I'm just reading into it...

Ballane mentioned the other day in another thread he'd heard she might be coming back to the Nix.

Edit: And I've seen on Instagram she posted a pic of friends at a drinks shop saying 'one last Swiggy' (name of the shop is Swig) - so that sounds rather final

Unfortuntely I've cancelled my 'New Idea' subscription so not fully abreast of such matters, but again I did see someone post recently that Fraser and Lachlan Brook (now at Auckland) maybe an item.

Brook was at RSL also in Utah, before arriving in the 09.
