The ALW kicks off Friday night.

I have no idea how they have gone in pre-season, did we travel to Aussie at any stage for games or just played local sides?

On the Flight of the Nix podcast Holly mentioned she saw a behind closed doors friendly between WSW and the Wahinix at Wanderers Park a few weeks back that ended 0-0, she said she thought the team looked good and they had a lot of chances

That's the only thing I've heard about any preseason games

How many phoenix podcasts are there? I'd never heard of flight of the nix and also just found out there's one called black and yellow. So, there's at least three.

Have also found 3 with a pretty big gap in quality if im truthful. Then probably depends on what you like.

I saw a Phoenix Women's team flying to Hamilton yesterday.  I didn't recognise any of the players as was too far away.  It could have been the first team?

Any more squad signings likely?
Seems a slim squad this year.

Any chance of a loan deal for Macey Fraser or even Miley Clegg from their NWSL clubs? Any loan deal would need to finish about March next year.

Sounds like Fraser has been in NZ from about a month now, and her club Utah (10th) play their last game this week. They won't be in the playoffs.

Clegg's Racing Louisville (9th) can still make the playoffs (top 8 teams), but need to win their last game and hope Bay (8th), lose.

From Niche Cache last week about Clegg.
Just quietly, one avenue for her (Clegg) could be a loan to the A-League during the offseason – Racing recently loaned 25yo backup goalie Olivia Sekany to Brisbane Roar on a deal that expires in March so that she can be back in America for next season. It’s a possibility. Depending on fitness that might even be an option for Macey Fraser too.

Would love to see a short term loan deal back to the Nix for them - Fraser especially.

Would give them a good chance to keep up fitness, continue development and for Clegg especially give her a chance to remind Racing Louisville what she can do

I'll be honest I haven't done a good job at keeping up to date with the ins and ands of the ALW. How are we feeling going into Friday?

Any guesses to the starting line-up?

Dunno, doesn't seem to have been a lot of hype, or even much info, for the women. Perhaps over-shadowed by Saturday's derby?
Anyway, I'm pumped for tomorrow's first game! Go the women!

I'm excited for our first chance to see the new imports play. Interested to see what Vilão is like in goal.

The pod chat with Temps the other day got me quite excited for the start of the season.

NZ TAB heavily favouring WU and looking at their squad you can see why.
They will be aggressive and strong so we’ll need to really front up tonight!

I'd prefer this over Rollo's predicted best line up tbh

She’s the one who’s played in midfield for the first couple of seasons? And was getting forward a bit at the end of the season?
Edit: no I’m confusing her with Kate Taylor who has gone overseas somewhere. Omg that was 386 recall.

Barry is the one that kept being left to cover both CB spots while Taylor hung out with the attackers...

Jaber isn’t in line for a start? I have vague memories of her being okay last season too.

Is it a smaller squad than last year?

I suspect she's more likely to start than Wall.

No Tanaka?  As an import, one would hope she'd be good enough to be starting...?

Looking forward to this one but not holding out for a win. WU are a tough opponent first up away.
Hope we can get at least a goal to get on the board and put up a solid competitive effort to give us something to work on going forward.

Ferguson was in doubt for this one.
Looks like a back three. With Tanaka and Elliot as wingbacks?
