Pretty sure that was Taylor marking her. She doesn’t seem to want to receive the ball from Barry before the goals. Should have been a sub and kept the same backline as last week. Can’t understand how the coaches don’t consider form when picking the team
Feel for Satchell tbh. Moved to Nix from Sydney to play regular first team footy but has not managed to get much output at all this season. Like you'd rather be playing well off the bench for Sydney than starting and struggling for Welly. Wonder what options she had.
It's funny because she was quite good off the bench and then starting during Asian Cup for Sydney last season. Really hammers in how we're making some promising/alright players look terrible in our system.
Have to disagree - barely gets on and touches the ball. Game passes her by defensively. No where near it.
i think we got the better deal in the send offs - we are playing better without our worst and they've been much worse without their best. We just need a goal
It's tough to see what the Nix need to do to fix our issues.
Is it a couple of other players? The coaching?
We have moments in every game where we look good but faaaark it's gonna be a long season.
Better coaching, I particularly would like to see mens first team and academy team coaches get involved and help out a bit. Also Lawrence and her coaching team isn't up to it.
Certain underperformers need to be be benched and eventually dropped back down to National League.
Sign 5 genuine Aussies as they were mostly good last season and gave us experience.
Be bolder and more willing to try different things, there's not a lot of pressure in this league so you can afford to experiment a bit.
Higher professional standards both in training and on gameday. Again this has to do with coaching.
I don't think anyone expected this team to be good or pushing for top 4 but they need to at least be competitive with other teams in the bottom half. Right now we are not.
When we need two goals why wait until the 75th minute to make your second sub. I get Satchell was taken off to ease her back into it. Maybe it’s the long trip that has made a big difference. Still again that’s on the coaches to prepare the players. Yes this is the female teams first long trip, but they should have asked the men’s team for guidance on this and all the players have made overseas trips for other rep teams so have an understanding of what is required to prep for this. I imagine they schedule training later in the day to help adjust for this.
It's not a phoenix club issue. NZF football and HPSNZ fund this team. NZF supply the coaches and the players. It's seen as a joint venture as Phoenix needed a women's team.
NZF should 100% helping out the coaching aspect. Maybe these are the best players though? NZF think so anyway. Do we know of any better players? Maybe we are just so weak player wise in NZ.
Something needs to change - give the girls some hope. They are just getting flogged at the moment. Change shape or blood new players.
Given the early score I was worried we were gonna lose by a lot more. But fark man, we have moments of awesome but struggling to see where the wins will come from.
why have we taken off our best player and only real threat???????? ffs
Likely done in colloboration with the Ferns, who play the Americans in 3 days. It's a long way back from Perth to NZ, and I'm guessing Satchell will start for the Ferns.
What's the overall vibe around the state of this team? I tried to watch as many games as I could last season, but this season I've been a bit more tuned out. It's tough but there's only so much time you can commit to football in the weekend. All I've seen is week on week defeats, and in the 3 or 4 games I've sporadically seen this season we have looked dire. Are there calls for the coach to be sacked? I want them to succeed like everyone else but it's pretty tough to watch such awful football
It's not just the poor state of the team its the woeful state of the league. Ever since most of the Matildas took off to play in UK and Europe the standard has plummeted. What strikes me most is the lack of intensity and pace - too many players jogging, even walking. Great to see Mickey Robertson inject some pace into this game.
I think changes need to start right from the off season. Everything needs a re-think. Don't shelter the select few in a private program that from the outside looks like a closed shop. Allow the girls to play in the NZ local comp, so they can play for there clubs and raise the standard of the local game. Appoint coaches that have the necessary experience. Even if that means non NZer's or male coaches. Some of the NZ academies have better coaches than current set up. Hold some real trials for the NZ spots and pick the best players. Time to move away from the development concept. Physios and medics need to be improved?. I don't know how current crop were appointed but there have been some shocking decisions this year with player welfare. Lily Alfeld. Even though part of this set up right through off season. Medics wait till season eve to get her knee opp. Kate Taylor. Asked to play on an injured ankle. Signing an injured player in Emma Rolston. Looks like she would have been better off taking time out to recover, then focus on getting back to the level she used to play at. Alyssa Whinham. What ever is going on there doesn't reflect well on player welfare front. Or is she suffering from concussion. To name a few bad medical calls. We have a fantastic facility. World class apparently. It shouldn't be that hard to entice a good coaching set-up to operate out of that place.

Athleticism not a priority with the current coaching team given the selections / substitutions. Blockers and clunkers are the preference.
we have Clegg and Foster who can do that. Pritchard works bloody hard but hasn’t created much to ensure she is starting each game. Time for others to have a crack. Robertson was good today, great attitude for the whole game. Is she left footed though? Her crosses in the second half were not what she looked to be doing though. Oi Oi Edgecumbe
Badly need someone up top who can hold the ball up, otherwise we are competing. Has Zawada got a female Polish friend ?
do the coaching staff do press conferences...pre and post match? love to take a listen! holy heck.
"We got punished for two mistakes which...we've got to hold ourselves accountable for," Phoenix head coach Natalie Lawrence told media post-game.
"We need to stop making these mistakes that are leading to these goals and start taking our chances as well."
"We had more possession, we had better pass completion, we've had more shots, we've had more final third entries again than any other game this season so we're building and getting better and better.
"Game eight and yeah one point on the board but...we believe that we've still got 10 games to fight for.
"As long as we keep sticking to our process then we believe the outcome will happen."

Shame about the result, the reds were fair for both. Perth player kicking at the ball and Roleston after whistle has gone. Roleston's reaction totally deserves red. As far as making improvements I reckon we leave that to Showtime Nixie, they seem to have all the answers.
Time to call this behavior out. @cashmere_tech what do you think of your player sending messages like this when you have young girls and women at your club? Abuse is not ok pic.twitter.com/ZyZ6k7eZaZ
