i told ya the team is in disarray at the moment. A right mess.

The silver lining could be that we get a decent keeper in to be our #1. Has to be one out there surely!

Maybe we should have listened to the people when, after Chloe Knott left, said: "this won't be just one disgruntled player, there is probably a whole seething underbelly of discontent in the squad, if it's not brought out in the open now we'll be paying for it in future"

So based on a sourceless statement we are back to the squad/club culture is a mess?
Fudge me you two are just desperate for horror stories huh?
Especially when articles like this one, contradict that theory.

Correct, you're point being?
If a group of American players can travel to NZ to play footy and band together and feel happy, why would you assume that the NZ/Aussie player aren't?
Until actual evidence of this "bad culture" thing being as bad as you're assuming is provided I'm not buying it.

There is no "evidence" that there are cultural problems, true - unless you count what the club's actual former vice-captain said openly after she left. The point that I and others have made is that you won't get any such evidence without a proper investigation. This is true whether or not Brianna Edwards really has left.

True, but one player making some very vague statements isnt exactly an indication of a problem worth investigating, it could well be an isolated incident not really worth digging any deeper into. Jumping to conclusions either way is pointless.

I believe there are other teams light on goalkeepers atm, could be another team offering starts. Provided there's any substance to the rumor of course.

You believe everything you read in the media? scary stuff. And often a club will scramble for a positive story to mask deeper issues.

So 1 players (Longos) thoughts resonate with all others in the group? Come on lol

Take the blinkers off Prof. Players are walking out. Imports dont give a faaaark. The coaching of the side has been shambolic in recent month, its been a right scramble.

More players will walk.

The people in the top office need to get the bottom of it.

I for one want to support a club/team that is stable on and off the pitch and performing well on it.

Elliot and Edwards granted time off.
But Taylor and Main back in contention.

Granted leave ie. "go away and think about it a bit more" "cooling off period"

If it was something more serious often clubs will stipulate "family reasons" etc

As it seems you do, there has been a couple of articles about the same thing regarding Knox, nothing more. At least i'm waiting for some kind article or report as opposed to wild rumours.
Maybe it's you who needs to take the blinkers off and read more widely.

Chloe vs Longo, take your pick who you believe, then an article written about the imports in the team.

Its amazing. Its hardly the most intensive season in terms of commitment and number of games played, and with the fight for on pitch minutes, and to get noticed, youd think youd give it your all, not take time off. So maybe they are on their way out.

McMeeken is surely a better option at full back than Davidson. It would be interesting to see if Brown was up to the task, I agree, but more likely we will see Breslin again. Or maybe Whinham, if shes not also taking time off

Been told Edwards has left, not just on leave. Not happy at not being the no1 at the start of the season. Also partner lives in Sydney……
Players that have left are the ones who started last year and not happy with the change of environment and accountability. Basically not the happy go lucky/it will be alright attitude of the previous coaches…..

I mean if that's the case then all good! Edward's career got a chance when Alfield got injured, but the club needed to bring in some import quality. Foster was always gonna be the bigger name in the keeping stocks. Edwards has done nothing wrong and could easily be starting ahead of Foster, but if the manager sees it differently then she really has no other options I guess. But there is nothing in any of that to suggest the custure is bad or otherwise. It's simply a "I dont want to be the #2 and need gametime to progress my career". Technical Driector leaving for an offshore gig makes sense too.

Can't really fault her if that's the case... easily good enough to be no.1 at another team. Kept well for us when she got the chance and if she does end up leaving I'll wish her all the best.

If I were Edward's,I'd certainly want game time, and go where I could get it.

Whether she should be playing rather than Foster, well ,everyone will have their view on that one,but it's only the coaches view that makes any difference.
Certainly I can understand Edward's frustration in that she wasn't backed on the basis of last years performances.

She probably asked if she would get a start after fosters stuff up last week, and was told no.

This all makes some sense.

I wondered at the start of the season when Foster was signed, how Edwards would feel. No GK likes going from being the no 1 (and Edwards was for a whole of last season) to being no 2, and riding the pine all season long. And yeah as above if Edwards was told Foster was going to stay the no 1, despite her big gaffe last game, Brianna could be a bit pissed off. It would have been a frustrating season for her, not helped by Rylee often being rolled out as the ALW team's spokeperson (straight away a senior player?) it seems. The Canadian certainly is talkative.

It's been a season of big change for the ALW side - new (male) coaches, Nth American imports & seemingly higher expectations - not hugely surprising it hasn't all gone smoothly. Like Prof I don't think you can then automatically assume there is bad culture within the squad. I trust Dome & Co to speak to the players and try and work through the issues. For now if they want to handle that privately rather than go through the media (which could backfire), that's fine.

Lets not forget Wisnewski & Whinham were also unavailable (took time out) under the previous coaching regimes. Are the transfer window dates for the women, same as men's? Could Edwards be out the door, off to another ALW club very quickly?

The ALW transfer window is closed for the season (closed on 26/12/23). Being a Keeper tho, she could get a release & pick up an injury replacement deal outside the window.

“There are a few players in the squad, Brianna being one of them, that we have given some time off to.

“The sort of environment we want to be is caring and emphatic for our players.

“For her, she just needed a bit more time at home over this period, so we’ve granted her an extra week of leave, and we’ve done a similar thing with Manaia, who we felt at 18 has done a lot in the first 10 rounds and is in need of a break, mentally and physically.”
- Temple on Bri and Elliott. Apparently Edwards will be watching the team in Sydney too.

Sounds like a non-story

Adding to the speculation.
Annalie Longo interview. Comments on being captain and that off field responsibilities have been difficult.
Read into that what ever you will.
But for a new female profession football team. Not surprisingly still finding there way it seems. Get the impression the club is trying to do the right thing, but finding it pretty difficult to meet everyone's needs all of the time.

Good to hear an interviewer/reporter asking the real questions!

couple of things...

*If you are a footballer and you love the game you do not want a break! You want to be playing every week! If that's been imposed on Elliot i would suggest she isnt happy about it and if she is just give up on football.

*Edwards clearly given a cooling off period. but same as above....if you don't want to be involved in football games and rather hit the beach with friends go train once a week and play at your local club

*Temple and club taking a safety here with a well-being process/approach on the back of the Knott comments.

"non - story" ? come on...hardly going to come out and say there's an issue. that would only lead to more interrogation and truth.

Need to focus on what we have now.....pray the coach gets game management right cos we need a win to get back on track.

A new game brings hope.....lets gooo

If (and that's a big uncertain if) Edwards does leave permanently I think it would be a massive shame to lose her. She's put her best foot foward and I think could be the starting keeper going foward.

The main thing that would worry me about it is that we lose some younger talent that we could hold on to for a while in favour of someone that may be gone next year.

Probably depends alot on Alfeld, and if she is going to be okay to play next season. If Alfeld looks like being fit for 24/25, not so concerned if both Edwards & Foster leave.

And re SN's ignorant comments above on Elliott. You don't just tell an 18 yr girl to go & harden up. Ask anyone who has raised teenage daughters. There is often a 'handle with care' approach required. And they are all different. Some need a hug & more gentle guidance than others. They are all individuals so you tailor it, to whatever is required. I've got 5 yr twin girls - already I can see one is very sensitive, and the other much tougher mentally. Same environment, same DNA but they are very very different.

Whinham & Wisnewski have had some issues, and seemingly are in a good space now. Wisnewski certainly seemed to be prior her bad injury. It's still a relatively new team, with young players (paid a pittance) and coaches learning their craft in the pro space. But yeah if after a couple of seasons being in the pro environment, some of these girls are still struggling, then you may question whether pro football is for them - especially when they are paid so little in the ALW (which ain't likely to change anytime soon). But this is Elliott's first season so you give her time.

Coochiie...hang on you click baiter. Correct me if i'm wrong but Temple didnt say she (Elliot) requested leave. They imposed it on her was my take. But use and twist anything to have a pop at me lad...desperate times.

But for your made up argument sake..lets say she has asked for leave...18 year old international player? cant cope with club football?!. Give me a break. Won't be around football much longer. As Roy Keane would say "it's your job". If you can't commit to work your in the wrong profession. - some will agree some with twin girls may not but thats life.

But anyway it was imposed on her...any pro footballer man or woman that has football taken away from them must be pissed off. You want to play every week. 10 games into the career youve always wanted and get sent for a holiday wow.

And we’ve established that comparing average remuneration available elsewhere it’s not necessarily an attractive job on that basis. Then there’s the risk of injury, the travel and other things which differ from ordinary employment.

And in many many careers people have burn out or wobbly periods with their motivation, even when their employment isn’t public or adrenaline and momentary performance based.

And Roy Keane was a sharke manager, all due respect. He was a fantastic ball winner and brought a Steve Waugh edge. A great leader on the field , most of the time, but not someone who was able to adjust to the variety of skills required of management. Fergie was mostly taciturn, but I bought his thousand goals DVD and he clearly was able to show a lot of positivity and loved the game and his teams. He could make players feel a million dollars, back when that was just an expression…

If it’s something let’s wait and find out, yeh? If it’s not, it’s not. There doesn’t have to be a villain either way.

Stupid comment. People overcome mental health challenges all the time, same as physical injury's. Pretty sure it was Jacob Tratt who had to take a year off professional football for mental health reasons back when he played for the Nix in 2017 and still has a pro career in the A-League today.
