Roy Keane great player but a cod of a human being. We are the company we keep (or aspire to keep).
If the people who see 18 yr old Elliott, day in day out, think she could do with a week off, we should trust their judgement. She misses one week. Big deal, move on.
And with Tratt it wasn't homesickness (at the Nix 16/17), that's an outright lie. And he didn't play the next season (17/18) another untruth, he took the whole season off. It wasn't until 18/19 that he was ready to return to football with SFC. https://www.mentalhealthmanagement.com.au/jacob-tratt-interview/
Realistically Temple and co are just playing things safe to manage player workloads regarding Elliot. It seems sensible to me, there will always be some rotation required. I'd rather see them play it somewhat safe with young players atm given all the talk around ACLs. It's something that will simply need to be factored into women's football going foward.
Certainly I haven't seen much to think there's any real major mental component at all, just a needed rest. Players are like any machine, if you don't look after them they break down (I know I've experienced that plenty myself).
Youre also dead right Coochiee, I completely forgot about Alfield coming back, a handy player to return. I suppose the only question will be if she's still got it after that long off. I hope she does.
Tratt was more than homesick, he didn't expect to play football again after quitting the Nix. as mentioned in this article, he had a full season in the NPL before becoming an IR for Sydney the next season. https://www.mentalhealthmanagement.com.au/jacob-tratt-interview/
Coochiie...hang on you click baiter. Correct me if i'm wrong but Temple didnt say she (Elliot) requested leave. They imposed it on her was my take. But use and twist anything to have a pop at me lad...desperate times.
But for your made up argument sake..lets say she has asked for leave...18 year old international player? cant cope with club football?!. Give me a break. Won't be around football much longer. As Roy Keane would say "it's your job". If you can't commit to work your in the wrong profession. - some will agree some with twin girls may not but thats life.
But anyway it was imposed on her...any pro footballer man or woman that has football taken away from them must be pissed off. You want to play every week. 10 games into the career youve always wanted and get sent for a holiday wow.
Stupid comment. People overcome mental health challenges all the time, same as physical injury's. Pretty sure it was Jacob Tratt who had to take a year off professional football for mental health reasons back when he played for the Nix in 2017 and still has a pro career in the A-League today.
Tratt got homesick and played the next season for Sydney the club he came from. steady on.
Anyways back to Elliott...she has a holiday imposed on her...she didnt ask for one. ffs.
The leave/holiday was forced on her? Based on what evidence? The days of "it's you're job, do it or else" are long gone - it sounds to me like you're struggling with this modern concept of mental health being relevant/real and important to take care of. Honestly, almost everytime the club puts out a statement and someone posts it in here you are "in like Flynn" with some comment suggesting some nefarious goings on. You need to start producing some evidence of your claims, you post like you have direct access to the players. Although I doubt any female or male professional footballer would give you the time of day given your attitude to wellbeing.
Get a journalist or reporter to ask if she requested leave.
She may not say whether she's pissed off or not as that could lead to consequences.
Any imposed professional football that has a holiday imposed on them mid season would be fuming. A footballer wants to play every week, win every week, impress and make represented teams. A footballer plays football.
"nothing wrong with her but needs a break" - ffs load of shark. International player!!
Always these issues at our club. always us every year.
Get the club to send out the mid season holiday roster every year so we know.
I'm not sure if anyone was arguing for holidays there, more like managing workloads in order to achiever greater athletic output and longevity.
Workload management is a huge thing in the sport I'm involved in, if you don't do it well injuries will undoubtedly happen, and I think football has a way to go to start implementing a lot of the research we have regarding workloads.
None of this has anything to do with Edwards of course who clearly isn't overworked.

You don't know what happened... coaches could have floated the idea to her and she agreed it's a good idea. I do agree with Temple that she's been a regular fixture in the team so far at just 18yo and has been in camp in Colombia with the Ferns too, so a few days off just to freshen up isn't the worst idea in the world.
How about some of us get behind the team and support them rather than being down in the dumps all the time.
The thing is there is so much speculation, and if anyone is right, there are reasonable explanations for everything.
Take the Brianna one. If it is just another week off: Maybe she has another week off to spend with her fiancé, and was likely going to warm the bench for another week so the risk for both parties are low and the reward for both parties is potentially high.
If she is leaving the club: She is the number 2 keeper and probably making fudge all money. Why wouldn't she look at other options? If she was making good coin then yea, being number 2 keeper and continuing to develop the career here might be exactly what she needs. But her expectations for essentially "work experience" might be higher than chilling on a bench. Which is reasonable.
And in regards to the club culture: Who knows? Not us. The only information we have is pretty limited. Yea the US women are saying it's awesome, but the US women are likely making enough money to get by so the experience and the culture will be different for them. If the expectations that are put on the team works for someone who is doing it full time, but doesn't work for people also doing part time jobs, then that is a reasonable "culture" issue.
For people doing this as a glorified hobby, the vibes will be different for people doing it for a job.
Holiday during pro football season? lol come on pull ya head in.
And your forgetting shes not "taking one" shes been told too!!! ffs
anyway with the above attitude in comments that's why we will always be mediocre.
Looking forward to this weekends game with whatever squad we have.
Nowhere anywhere has it been stated that she has been told to take leave - except in your posts.
incorrect. Go back at listen to the Temple interview. geesus.
"We've given some time off to....." then goes on to explain, the player is based in Sydney so being away from family a lot of the time is tough etc. You read that as "we've enforced leave"??????????? If anything it sounds like a request from the player that while they are in Sydney for a while can she go soend time with family. Temple continues and says "we've granted her some additional leave". My understanding of granting something is that a request would have been required first.
If Temple had said something along the lines of "we recomended some time off" or "Edwards has been rested/stood down" etc then I'd accept that the manager had enforced this leave. But that usually wouldnt come aloingside a blurb about player well being.
shambles. thhe fact we are having to discuss and argue this just shows the state of our team. Good luck if any of them have ambitions of playing in better leagues or europe.
have a break during the week but missing game day? not for you.
anyways as i said earlie looking forward to the game and whatever team we put out, speckmaier is due, coach has hopefully got his ducks in a row or may need a break himself after this....who knows. bring on the game. 2-1 Nix. Fraser, Speckmaier with a GK clanger from us late to make it interesting.
From the team thats on the Phoenix website, with McMeeken in for Davidson, and with Main and Taylor and Whinham, I think thats the best team we have at the moment.
