So it appears I am never watching the main action. What just happened for the red? And I assume we need an out field player for the penalty then we can sub in a keeper?
utterly ridiculous decision by the ref, Foster being marked very closey even leaned on, she bumps the canberra player, maybe waves an arm in her direction and the player falls over like she's been shot! daft! great save by Edwards
But bloody hell, I'm still looking to see how that is a red. Absolutely awful. How's she even picked that out looking through the crowd of players in the box?!
This is reminding me of how much the A league men’s reffing has improved. There are so many more good refs, contests are usually allowed to happen, but they’ve been strict on high foot challenges.
First call out has to be Edward's. It must have been hard for her this season, watching. I think she's probably the keenest one in the squad, so I'm really pleased she got an opportunity, and did so well. She'll be the happiest player in NZ tonight. In the ALeague, infact.
Best team performance in quite some time almost reminiscent of the character character shown by the men's team. We played some great football at times and I convinced that if the red hadn't happened we would have blown Canberra off the park. Taylor back to her best today driving forward when we attacked and magnificent when we went down to 10. Longo and Lake were both enormous today. Hopefully this will give them confidence going forward.

Even if there was a foul, it looks like it was more Elliott. It will be interesting to see what the punishment is for that red!
Jesus. Just watched the replay and there was less than push and shove in that.
It's hardly even a penalty, players crowding the goalie get bumped around all the time.
If that's a red for anyone, surely there should have been heaps more reds in the game as there is no way that's only player bumped and lightly shoved in the box.
FFS.
Thank god it didn't change the result and our glorious Nix prevailed.
Need VAR in the women's game ASAP if they are gonna start diving like the men.

You would have to think that with no VAR they have to try to make a call with limited information and saw a player hit the ground like she took studs to the stomach and made a call.
I watched the mens game last night for about the first time in 3 years. Definitely prefer watching the women’s team. Well pleased with that result, Shout out to Jaber who had me worried after her last game. She was great today- good cover, strong tackles and good clearance on her headers. Lake was making up for missed time when she wasn’t playing alw, by playing like a seasoned pro who would start at any club. I also think she would be a better defensive mid than Taylor, due to her futsal background. Taylor meanwhile played her best game this season today- one particular moment in the second half I thought she was going to lose possession and she dribbled between two players towards goal. She needs to learn how to strike a ball by Macey to add that to her game. No shots by Fraser today? Longo was just solid first 60 minutes and then immense in the last 45 of the 90 minutes! Speckmaier is my player of the season so far. Cox has been a valuable addition to the squad. I hope that Breslin recovers well, but she wasn’t on the same wavelength as her teammates today. Would be interested to have Brown as 9, and Cox on the left and Speckmaier on the right next week. Temple could have brought on Whinham for Longo last couple of minutes to waste some time and allow the Fever to acknowledge the performance of Longo today too. COYN!
Our thoughts & prayers with the Canberra United striker. We hope she makes a full recovery for her life, health & playing career with a long recovery road ahead after that powerful blow 🙏🏼❤️🫶🏼 pic.twitter.com/F4wMrofFEO

With no VAR available, perhaps the refs need to be directed to consult with the nearest assistant referee when making such big calls.

All 4 refs are wired up with mics. They spoke to each other all right, they do all game.
This is what I didn't understand after the red card was given- there appeared to be a "review" taking place, but it wasn't VAR.
Ignoring the disallowed goal and red card, the ref made some strange decisions it seemed to me, but we all have our own views!
Ive now watched the reply a million times. No way was that ‘striking’. Neither was it done ‘aggressively’. It was a push with the whole arm; not just the elbow. Many current and ex referees will defend the decision as bein in line with the laws of the game. Fine. For me it was the worst penalty decision Ive ever seen.
And the Canberra player should today be asking herself about the role she played in this.
Have to be honest, it's a red card every day of the week. If you watch it closely Foster 100% throws an elbow...clear as day. Does the Canberra player go down a little easy....probably but shes thrown an elbow and she knows it.
Better game, a fired up Speckmaier is what we want to see every week. Fraser back in...magic. Teams alot better when those two are playing minutes.
Canbarrra are where they are because they are poor.
Good confidence boost for the girls. Hopefully kick on from here table is tight!

Assuming the Nix appeal it will be interesting to see how the independent MRP sees this one. My guess is they'll uphold it on the basis it's a technically correct decision because Foster's arm movement can be interpreted as violent conduct. Behind the scenes the ref, whose first game it was at A League level, might get some guidance, but that'll be it.
It was certainly one of the most bizarre decisions I have seen in many years of watching football. You literally see more "violent" pushing, shoving, elbowing and shirt pulling at every single corner of every single game in both the mens' and womens' competition.
That save from Edwards though. was a match winner. If they had scored there, could we have hung on under that much pressure only a goal down. Incredible nerves to pull off that save.
I'd like to think the red would get overturned, but that is rare and I can't see the league wanting to admint that a first timer ref was wrong. We lose nothing with Edwards taking the gloves for the next game; Hopefully there isnt some added time off for Foster. Any more than 1 game for the red would be utterly ridiculous.

Is a red card for violent conduct 3 games by default? Could be wrong but something tells me unless it's overturned Bri might be getting a run of games.
