Still hoping for a win but would take a draw since we are a woman down.
Hawkesby is just such a dirty player. Shirt puller but gets away with everything. On the positive side what a difference Jale has made.

Absolute gut punch. Fudge Sydney FC for eternity. But it's our own fault if we can't make the most of our chances. Same old same old

Probably one of our better away performances. Didn't deserve to lose.

That’s the risk of going for it a player down, unfortunately.
Well that ridiculous yellow has impacted the game clearly, but still fantastic watching Longo and Jale with ball at feet and the way the whole team drive forward at the end. Turn and snap shot from…Main? Silly from Jaber knowing she was on the yellow tho. Good series of attacks and corners.
Am I allowed to say I enjoyed what I got to watch of that?

Much like the game against Brisbane we dominate possession and still end up losing by a goal

Jaber is a renowned hothead. First yellow contestable but second just plain stupid.
Cost us the draw in the end at the least.

First yellow was ridiculous. Should have been given to the Sydney sub who stopped Jaber from picking up the ball for a throw in. Agree silly second yellow but she's been one of our best players this season and calling her a hothead is a bit harsh imo. Hawkesby for Sydney is a hothead but got away with murder in the 90 minutes.

Geez, Rufer’s good and that for the men, but it just drove home to me today how skillful Longo is. I knew she was good, but….
Would love to have someone comparable to her close control, delivery, reading of the game and energy and fitness for the men’s team.

Such a frustrating season to be a Nix fan. This team just keeps on giving false hope and failing to deliver... scared for next season when Knights come in and make it look easy.

Sydney - 2 goals from 2 shots on target
Phoenix - 1 goal from 9 shots on target
And watch that keeper play awful next week

Jaber was very unlucky to get that first yellow card. Totally should have been several of the Sydney subs who were time wasting and being unsporting.
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

The team were unlucky to lose that. They attacked impressively well in the 2nd half, only for the Sydney goalie to have a great game/be in the right spot.
They go into the next games with some self-belief I would have thought

Looking across our competitors now:
4th Western United 29pts -7gd: Newcastle (10th) away, Adelaide (3rd) home, Wellington (8th) away
5th Brisbane Roar 25pts +14gd: Newcastle (10th) home, Adelaide (3rd) away, Melb City (1st) home, CCM (6th) away, WSW (12th) home, Melb Victory (2nd) away
6th Central Coast 25pts +3gd: Wellington (8th) away, Brisbane (5th) home, Melb Victory (2nd) home, Newcastle (10th) away.
7th Canberra Utd 24pts -6gd: Sydney (11th) home, Perth (9th) away, Wellington (8th) home, WSW (12th) away
8th Wellington Phoenix 23pts -1gd: CCM (6th) home, Melb City (1st) home, Canberra (7th) away, Western Utd (4th) home
Westerns points and Brisbanes games in hand mean they should make it, but even though CCM/Canberra are in poor form (like us), worried that they might put an end to that with some easier fixtures

A few thoughts.
Subs improved us dramatically again, but again the changes were too late. Even with 10 players we looked better.
Jale was very good when she came on. Whinham in midfield was not effective against the pressure Sydney put on,and she should have been pulled earlier.
We miss Mccutcheon s presence in midfield when she plays at the back, she has to go into midfield. We will need Barry and McMeeken next week in Jabers absence.
Tanaka was wasted and not given adequate time.
Ferguson doesn't hold the ball up or get on the end of anywhere near enough.

100% - with Whinham and Brazendale together in the midfield we get owned physically

Not sure how Bonnie Jansen doesn’t know you can’t appeal a second yellow card, she made an impassioned appeal on the Football Fever podcast alongside Piney to make sure it was appealed by the club.
She’s a football journo with the Herald but doesn’t know that?
Am I being too harsh?

Potentially a bit harsh in today's journalistic landscape. She's young and it isn't her full time job to only write about football, and to expect her to know every rule and regulation of football competitions off the top of the dome while spitballing on a podcast is maybe a bit much. Maybe would be bad if she was saying something like that in a published article.
Having said that she's made worse gaffes than that in the past

Hmmm, true, but not being able to appeal a 2nd yellow card is standard across all comps in the world as far as I'm aware. Thought it was common knowledge...perhaps not.

I think I only learned it in passing when the Nix couldn't challenge one. So common knowledge, sure, but only if you've encountered it.
I mean we have seen 2 examples of studs into Nix players legs. That's common knowledge she's a red but VAR didn't seem to know it and that's their job soooooo....
