Anyway, terrible first half from us, just looked disjointed and couldn't put together the final pass, much better in the second half, created a heap, corners were good, had multiple good chances just couldn't finish, honestly could have won on another day with those chances.

Whinham epitomising how she can be a frustrating player - has spark and creative flair but often makes the wrong decisions.

As for Canberra, how gross was some of that time wasting...

Longo gets taken out through the knee before ball in a nasty one.  And Pine and the ref say that's fine. Awful.
I didn't think much of the officiating today - too many heavy contact challenges waved 'play on' as if it was Sunday League. Longo was lucky to see out the game.

Yup I love Whinham, but man some frustrating misses there.

When we had the amazing break away and the goalie was tearing back to the box we needed to chip it and instead tool a touch too many.

A few seconds touches that killed great chances.

Annoyingly, I didn't think Canberra were particularly good.

We were Way too late to change it up.
Tanaka looked very decent, Ferguson put in a big shift in 10 minutes.  Brazendale on way too late to do anything.
Wall looks promising too.

Our first women’s game and generally loved the experience but some of that play was very frustrating to watch. Get into great positions and just make the wrong choice time and again. Was the ref as bad at felt in the ground? We had to leave about 10 mins after dog gate, young kids, what can you do, but they loved the tshirts they got. Nice way to encourage young support!

Danielli for Vilao is not the sub we wanted or needed. This'll be interesting...

We should give a shout out to young Danieli.
She did very well, her handling looks assured

Longos doggo pitch invasion made three news tonight, though they didn't bother to mention the score lol.

Disappointing result.

Agreed. It's another important stepping stone for her, and she looked good.

Ok, Ive caught up with limited highlights from the game.

Mac Barry looks to have gone to sleep a bit for the first goal - all game she looked after Heymann and did a very good job - but Im afraid she could have done more there. Im a huge Barry fan, and thats the second week I think she could be faulted, so lets hope for better things. I thought she was great today apart from that moment.

The goal came from the gap again between Jaber and the wide player - this week it was McMeeken. Jaber also got skinned for speed later in the game when we were luck not to concede again.

Lake looked to be upfield for the 1st goal, Im not sure what led to that situation, but Im thinking we will do better with a more traditional looking back four than what we again seemed to play today.

I would play McMeeken, Barry, Lake and Wall, and then we have the unknown Canadian to come in on that.

McCutcheon just seemed to sit too deep for me today - not that she did much wrong near the ball - and she looked darn handy when she got into the game.

But what I think matters not, but for the benefit of the forum - I would like to see more Tanaka, Wall and Ferguson.

Annoyed they didn't include the penalty shout in the highlights, looked like it probably could've been in person.

What’s happened to Jale? I remember her being a bit of a force last she played for us.

I’m not sure we were too late to change it up given the number of good scoring chances created, just missing some cohesion in fast attacks that should - need to - come together soon. Tanaka has good vision and keen to see her get a start.
Agreed Canberra weren’t that good - their front three and wide players looked good at times but didn’t put a lot together and the game was there for the taking.

Disappointing result.

Anyone else find a dog running around in a  pro game (or any game) embarrassing and a deficiency in match mgmt (even if it was the highlight)?

Yes very embarrassing for the player and whoever was meant to be looking after it.  Not sure what is meant by match management.

At least it wasnt a stray dog, like those you see in South America. Pretty sure I've seen videos of this happening in lower leagues in England too.

It happened twice this season at Madills Farm for Eastern Suburbs in the NRFL including potentially interfering in the awarding of a goal.  At least there it is an open park so you have to expect that sort of thing, here it is a secure ticketed match venue, so at some point the dog has gone past someone who has the authority to refuse admission to the venue.

I think Tanaka deserves more game time. Looks technically better than some others on the squad. Especially for the type of game Paul Temple talks up.

And she gets taken off.

The commentary has said she isn't fit yet for 90.  She's done 80 vs the 70 they intended.

Good to see our new visa striker getting some minutes now.

"The commentary..."
What a load of shyte.

They are just buying into the bullshark they have been fed.
Wow, a whole 10 mins of doing not very much at all..
Im sure they would have coped.

Just another example of people off the field looking at useless stats and talking absolute nonsense.

it was like a 3 on 2 and Barry was drawn to the central player while also trying to keep an eye on Heymann.

This 3 on 2 situation happened a lot during the game, we were lucky to only concede 1. essentially one of the back three would carry the ball forward leaving 2 at the back. The ball would be carried passed the midfield and lost leaving us with a defender short and the midfielders going forward - the players tracking  back were always out of position. We need to be better moving the ball forward with passes rather than one of the defenders carrying it forward.
