Anyone know if Kelli Brown is available for this game? If so, here's hoping she nets another one like this.

Loving the fact these games are at a decent time, after the first promising performance I am quite excited what they could do against what could be a poor jets team.

Unchanged XI, Kramer in for Rue on the bench and no Kelli Brown. Second game, FIRE UP FARKEN!!

I've counted ~3 foul throws from Newcastle too + the goalkeeper outside the box, nothing called.

Not sure about our left back...

pretty dominant from the Jets so far.

Also, I got a little excited when they started talking about Fenton....

Commentators talking about how strong the wind is.... lmao it's barely a breeze.

Tough first half, Jets looked dominant but we held them to reasonably few shots. Need to get those passes sticking and we'll start looking a lot more dangerous.

Girls really struggling against what looks like a strong wind. Newcastle pressing high with the wind at there backs. Our passes not sticking looking a big ragged. Need to really turn it around in the second half. Hope we can use the wind to our advantage and try and pin them into there own half a lot more. Create some chances and score.

I don't think we've strung 3 passes together.

Oh dear. We're all over the place.

Whenever we get a sniff of the ball we keep kicking it aimlessly back to them.

Shocking keeping for the first. Terrible give away by Taylor for second - but her reaction is even worse. Not liking the set up for corners either. Sigh

Yeah, this is rough to watch. Not good quality football in the slightest from the nix

bit of a reality check, with most of the team being so young you have to expect a lack of consistency. Whilst some of the defending has been questionable our midfield has been non-existent on attack, no control, no forward passing. Knott and Gomez have been awol most of the game.

Well, let’s be honest, with how the talk about the team was before the season I’d take 50% of the games being good ones. Young team won’t necessarily have the fitness. Add to that they won’t get home fans any time soon. My expectation from the reports was there would be some shellackings.

Shows the lack of maturity having a younger team, last week was just lucky, hopefully learn from this game and take away some valuable  lessons, lucky for the score to not be alot higher. Back to training and reset

Do we not have socks in the away kit for the womens team…? The yellow looks ridiculous.

small steps, we've managed a first point and now we have our first goal! Pritchard has deserved it, she's worked hard today.

First goal!!! Congrats to Ava Pritchard, game’s been a tough watch but that’ll always be in the record books.

it's probably to avoid being close to the jets blue socks.

sydney next week will present another tough match, might see some changes in the midfield potentially?
Kramer to start maybe?

Whinham and Walker have looked pretty classy off the bench, wouldn’t mind seeing what they and Kelli Brown can do starting.

5-1 to Jets. Fair reflection of play. Steep learning curve tonight.

Good to get that first goal. But feel like we might have to get a bit used to this kind of score line. Search out the positives, that will be plenty for such a young inexperienced team like this.

Thought the keeper should of done better for every one of the Jets 5 goals.

Thought the keeper should of done better for every one of the Jets 5 goals.

From what I've seen of Women's football, the goal keepers really struggle at times... tbh, it makes it kind of entertaining though as the shots from distance have a better chance of going in.

Not sure how to say this without seeming sexist (as that's not my intention at all) but I think it's a physical difference (rather than skill related), and not necessarily just height, that makes something particularly hard about goal keeping, relative to other positions, for the women.

I think it is down to the level of coaching players get throughout their careers, as keeping is such a different and technical skill, the gap between men and women shows more.
Though not a keeper myself, rep teams I played with had keeper coaches by the time I was 14, and then at every age group onwards. Doubt that is the same for the girls/womens teams.
I suppose it is also linked to the amount of resources invested in the game as well.

It is definitely a general deficiency and not particularly due to coaching. Alfeld has had a load of specialist coaching but failed on that one. I guess it is more a function of timing and some other factors

As Ive said before, i don't watch a lot of women’s football so not looked too closely at GKing. But it was watching one of the preseason shows that was interviewing Alfeld and then cut away to a highlights reel of her playing at Perth. There was plenty of spectacular leaping around but I thought every example were shots that could of been caught and mostly no leap was required to do that either. I just put it down to the editor not being a football person and mistook gymnastics as equally good goalkeeping. Then I saw the Jets game. I’m going to look at more women’s games now and study goalkeeping.

A player in the Jets has tested positive for Covid 19, and while it's a shame that it didn't happen before our game against them, I hope they weren't contagious on the field with our teams.
