great win by the ladies, Brooke Nunn is so fucking good, streak ahead of anyone in the league! How CCM managed to lose her is beyondf me.
Also, minor gripe about the coverage last night, where has the word attacker come from? have we lost striker/forward or winger/midfielder. Noticed it against Nunn when she scored but she was playing Wingback until subs came on late in the game.

Our attack did well from what I saw.
Not so sure about our defending, we were lucky to only concede one goal.
Van Der Meer jumped in unnecessarily in the approach to their goal, but then Elliott really compounded it.
Barry was well out of position two or three times and we were exposed at the back.
In the recoveries, we were a bit lucky not to concede a penalty a couple of times I thought - there was some subtle use of the hands.
An excellent win.
But where was Fraser? or Main? Have they travelled?

Pia Vlok to be the greatest woman's footballer this country has ever produced. Don't know what was going on with the defending in the first half - but you can always back us to score a few. Nunn was also fantastic. Finals here we come!
Agree. Super talented. Makes the game look easy like no one before.
And Brooke Nunn - what an addition to this team. Love the way she plays.

Okay so happy for the win. However a problem I've been having and I get it is maybe apart of like the dark arts and slightly apart of just playing the game but I'm a bit over the Vic Esson being "injured" just so the coach can do tactics with the player. This was when it was 1-1. It has been happening so much that now I can't tell when she is actually injured/needs to be checked. Anyways understand others won't agree. This is just a personal issue that I just needed to get out.

Main was on the bench. Macey didn't travel, was mentioned in the pre-game press but it wasn't explained why.

Eish, we rode our luck in the first half but dominated in the second.
If we can win our next 3 games, we will win the league. Amazing that despite all the injuries (and a pregnancy) that we are in this position!!

We looked quite vulnerable on the counter in that 1st half and the start of the 2nd, but once we got that 2nd goal we really locked the game down and Sydney struggled to get out of their half.
Hopefully it's something they have figured out as we won't be able to start so slowly against CCM on Wednesday

The issue raised re Esson is valid.
By my count this was the 4th time this season she has gone down away from contact to require medical attention. As it's the goalkeeper under current game laws they don't have to leave the field (unlike an outfield player) once treatment is administered.
This is an issue that IFAB have under consideration so in future one outfield player will have to go off in place of their goalkeeper for either 30 secs or 1 min (tbd) if the goalkeeper receives medical attention in an effort to minimise this situation being exploited.
Currently the referee can book (yellow card) a player for feigning an injury (as USB) although it's a tough one to enforce if a goalkeeper goes down away from contact or action where the focus of match officials is on.

As far as I was aware, Fraser didn’t travel. Think rollo posted that earlier in the day. Good win for the wāhinix! Keeps the pressure on 👍

Absolutely agree with the above. You start getting a reputation for this stuff and it looks bad. Hope someone has a quiet word with them about it.

We've been doing the maths and we're pretty certain that tonight's results mean we're guaranteed footy finals. The only team outside the top six who could overtake us would be Central Coast, if they win their final 3 games. But that would mean Canberra need to pick up a point vs Brisbane. Yet Brisbane can only overtake us if they win both their final games. 🤪
On this assumption, we're going to start working on issue 3 of our Phoenix fanzine 🔥. It'll be fun. A look back at the season and a footy finals special. Ideas, contributions and feedback are welcome. Yay!
P.s. it's great to have the forum back online. Thanks.

the ladies have a busy 10 days, 3 games to play, two games behind City who have one game to play against Newcastle.
must win at least 2 to be even on points but ahead on GD. If we win all three and go first in the last weekend then City have the chance to grab it back with a win on Sunday.

If we win all three then for city to grab it back they will have to win by 9 or 10 or more goals in there last game against Newcastle. City don't play next until we have completed our last three games.
If we win the next two games, Then 2nd spot is guaranteed and Adelaide won't be able to go ahead of us even if they beat us in our last game.
So Wednesday's game against CCM is a big one. We have never beaten CCM I believe.
