A win will get us to within one point of the top 6 (behind Canberra, ironically) with our final home game on the 20th left to play. Can we do it?

Really thought Heyman was gonna score there. How many games have we started brightly then conceded the first goal?

7 games in a row we have conceded first. And 10 games out of the last 11.

Hard to win football matches when you are always playing from behind

We need a sister cities cup against Canberra too, that seems to be the ticket to us winning games

We are very consistent with our away performances.

We really need to figure out these away games next season as that's 2 seasons in a row where they have been our downfall - and there has really been no improvement away from home this season

Im a great believer in teaching aspiring top footballers to play an intricate, quick passing, move into space, create quality chances game. However:

. . . i can’t help believing that sometimes, indeed very often, the best way of actually scoring goals and winning games . . ,

is to just hoof the ball forward, into the box and feed off the scraps.

So is it time to replace Temple?
Our attacking third has been pretty ineffective this season. Is it time for a total clean-out there..
Hope to see the younger kids get a run in this last game now there is nothing to play for. Give Ingham and Jerez a start.

We have been totally ineffective up front. And actually got worse as the season went on. Only Sydney have scored fewer goals , and they are now above us!

Main has disappointed me a bit. She doesnt seem to gel with Ferguson, who should have been discarded well before xmas anyway. If we want Main to stay, play her without Ferguson.

Tanaka has to be given a run if they are thinking of re-signing her, and I cant see why they wouldnt be.

I'd be surprised if Tanaka stays on when she barely plays. Clearly Temple doesn't rate her much.

I’d be amazed if he’s kept on.
Players that haven’t performed and clearly are just not up it got starts each week where others with better skill and X factor were in and out of the squad. Bizarre??

Fail to understand why Zoe not selected. She brings energy and she is not scared to header a corner

I’m wondering if the inconsistency around squad selection is done to player unavailability still on occasion. McMeeken and Main in particular were absent when I would have expected them to be in a squad at least.

In terms of re-signings who would get a gig at a top 4 club for next season? My priority order would be:
Longo
McCutcheon
Whinham
Barry
Vilao
Jaber
Wall
Jale
Elliot
McMeeken
Tanaka
Main

Younger players should be kept and especially Jerez and one of the other keepers should be given a start in the last game so that they can show what they are capable of.

I would be fine if we spent more on attacking players and played a kiwi keeper next season.

And if Lake and Van der Meer are back next season then we won’t need any defensive imports.

Even if we had 2 outstanding imports as Striker and an imposing holding midfielder this would compliment our young kiwi players.

As for Temple, who else would you swap him with? Bearing in mind that the Auckland FC women’s coach will have been confirmed by now.

Auckland FC women's teams is not a certainty according to journo Bonnie Jansen. Wrote a herald article about it last week.
And apparently Bev Preistman has been seen a Nix home games.
If you can get over drone gate then you'd think her appointment as coach would be a no brainer.

I'm surprised she's allowed anywhere near a football team with the scandal still fresh in the mind.
You just know that if she ends up being the coach it's all the aussie media will be talking about.

Not exactly sure but think she might be banned from coaching national teams for one year.

I'd be very surprised if Auckland didn't launch a ALW team next season. Not ideal the coach hasn't been named yet. But still plenty of time to assemble a squad, noting the ALW usually kicks off a month after the ALM.

As with Corica it wouldn't surprise if they are going after an Australian, with a solid track record of coaching in the ALW.

Steve Corica was announced as the men’s head coach on March 12 last year, while their first set of player announcements came at the end of May.

I think the delay is a financial one.
The A League aren’t in a financial position to expand the women’s program at present so Auckland’s entry is dependent on Canberra’s exit.
(They only had funding for 24/25)
With Canberra making the top 6 that’s less likely now.
So WP potentially scuttled Auckland’s bid.
That’s just my hypothesis.

And I'd rather have a winning coach they don't like than a loveable loser.

What end product has Whinham justified over 4 seasons to be considered such a high priority to retain? Regardless I think she's contracted for next year anyway.

Barry and Longo we need to prioritise keeping, McCutcheon too would be great but I see her leaving tbh.

Manaia Elliot should definitely be a priority with positional flexibility and a wide range of skills (plus she's a young Kiwi).

Others like Jaber, Wall and to a lesser extent Main and Jale would be nice to keep, but the truth is that squad turnover outside our key players might be a good thing especially in the final third where the numbers unfortunately say it all we have been very poor.

Coupled with the fact it sounds like Temple is likely leaving, I think it's likely change will be in the air
