My main concern is we are too nice and not physical enough, meaning 50/50s are turning into 40/60s for us.

Today we saw the Jets show a physical side, shield us away from the ball, get a few nudges or pulls in that maybe pushed the boundaries of a foul. Helped them control the game and shut down our defence.

I know Temples playing style is about small ball, passing and technical ability, not just bullying the other team, but our technical ability is on a similar level to most teams we play, so if we lose the physical battle so often we will lose more often than we win.

Outmuscled in first half, lucky to survive, some good saves by Vilao. Created some openings in the second half but not able to convert. Ferguson (dunno if she was offside for Main's 'goal') put a header wide and got in a tangle with Tanaka trying to tap in a good ball across goal.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

The thing that gets me is the positional naievity from our players... for example when the full backs are beaten, instead of the CB's stepping across to shut down the angle, whilst the FB runs towards the centre, our cb's drop into the centre of the box before eventually moving out to the striker, who by this stage has collected the ball, got it under control and are now penetrating the box.

Why not defend them out wide? It's basic positioning. And the same thing happens on attack to, people running into blind alleys, to not knowing how to run across a line before dropping in, or to fall back into a pocket when they've made a run, but haven't got the ball.

It's frustrating and should be a coachable elment to the game... but its the same every season.

Regarding Jale, she's a 70% player. Meaning she's decent at all aspects (speed, strength, technically) but has no one major area of strength. Wynham is good technically, and can play a pass but needs to grow a bit of mongrel - too easily 'manhandled' in the middle (she is getting better though).

I definitely wasn't sure about the disallowed goal for us, the camera angle wasn't good, what did you guys think? I need another look.

Looking at the replay again, I think Fergusson was offside

I see Longo has a suspected fractured eye socket from a stray elbow in a challenge. It was a pretty rough game, not surprised something like this eventuates.

From the Nix website:

To make matters worse for Temple his captain Annalie Longo left the ground in an ambulance after copping a nasty blow to her head in the 90th minute and is all but ruled out of Friday’s Unite Round match against Adelaide United in Sydney.

“It’s not good unfortunately. She’s taken a pretty hefty whack to the face. There’s a bit of blood and dizziness and she’s in a bit of a bad way.

“The doctor feels it’s some sort of fracture around the eye socket. We’ll hopefully find out more when we get to the hospital.

“She’s got the right people around her looking after and we’ll assess her and find out more,
but it’s highly unlikely she’ll be able to have any involvement on Friday.”

---
I wonder how long an injury like this will mean she's out for, feels like a big blow for us whilst the team is still trying to find cohesion

If it's really bad she maybe stuck in Aussie for awhile. It's that's the case at least she has the Unite Round to view, down the road from the Castle in Sydney.

Aaron Clapham wasn't allowed to fly home for 10 days after a nasty facial injury in the Handy Prem final Team Welly verus Eastern Suburbs. Had to be driven back to his ChCh home all the way from Auckland.

I knew there was foul play the moment the Aussie commentator said that she didn't see what quite happened. An elbow is an elbow.

The Aussie commentator also kept saying it might be an archillies problem again despite clearly having blood all over her forehead and was holding her face

Anyone watching the video can clearly see the Jets defender comes in with her elbow raised! Intentional or not, the elbow is up and strikes Longo on the cheek. Drops her! Clear red all day!

Longo cleared of any long term damage thankfully, but Lake's season is done - tendon injury in her foot.

Ligaments it says for Lake, but in any case thats no good.
Chebel will need to step into her shoes.
Lake added height and aerial prowess that could be much missed.

Both good and bad news at once! Seems to say 6 months for Lake, but at least Longo is only out for this week

Agreed, and anyone who's played at any level, let alone semi-pro, will know the likely outcome of going into a tackle with a raised elbow. I think Cicco's first-half tackle on Jale and the way she promptly exited the scene after clobbering Longo also show her mindset. And yet she got off scot-free. Kevin Muscat would be impressed.

Wonder if this had any bearing on the Chebel situation?
