First leg of the Double Header to kick off the New Year. Kids go free.

This is a very winnable game, WSW are yet to get a point so far this season like us.

Any news on Alfeld, Gomez, Taylor  etc injuries and likely returns ? Perhaps the last couple of games have had better patches as we have had older players and it seemed a bit less frantic and more confident on the ball?

Yet last year we had a younger starting roster and played better football?

I don't wanna blame the coach but I think losing Gemma was huge.

I don’t remember us playing out from the back as much last year and I think Jale was a better asset in attack than what we have seen so far this year.

If I was an opposing coach I would play with 3-3-4 with 4 fwds and press all the time and even you could purposefully kick it out for a goal kick knowing that you can set up to press 1v1 against our defence on the edge of our own goal box. It seems like  suicidal football at times.

Anyway hopefully they have been training hard after some nice days off chilling and we can get everybody back and Natalie has a full squad of players to be selected from and then there will be competition for starting spots and also on the bench and they can show what they are capable of. After watching other teams play we can definitely beat WSW and Perth and others on our day. It would be great to get some  more goals and have a better goal difference than some other teams by the end of the season. That would be progress.

Unfortunately it’s being proven that Nat is well out of her depth in a head coaching role

Yep, we’ve gone backwards with supposedly better players coming in.
If she was in Europe or the US she would be toast by now.

Sounds like Chris Greenacre has been helping out with some coaching of the women's team. Makes sense.

That’s positive.
When you have scored 2 goals in 5 games ( 1 OG and 1 from a defender ) the attack coach needs some help!

I agree that the coach is out of her depth but it's pretty obvious that the previous coach signed or re-signed all the players that clearly aren't up to the required standard.

What would be interesting is how much power does NZF have with player recruitment. It is a JV setup with the Nix, and NZF pays the coaches salaries??

Did NZF insist it remain a young squad for the 2nd season, with a strong young NZ player development focus leading into the WWC?

But I guess there would have been a natural expectation of improvement this season. Players having a season's ALW under their belts this time, games at home & experienced quality names like Hassett, Rolston etc added to the mix.

As i think they said in the pod, we strengthened but because of the world cup the other side's have strengthened more. The lack of international players is killing us.

Big game this one for the girls. They will be under a lot of pressure.
I'm pretty nervous for them. I really hope they rise to the occasion but another dud performance and there will be serious questions asked.

I'd like to see a front 3 of
               Rolston
Robertson       Satchell

And a mid field of
            Hassett
Wisnewski      Gomez

I also think Walker has good passing range and should be in the mix and very least in the match day squad.

It would help if he got the names right too. Thus far Foster is playing both Left & Right fullback.

Short corners not working yet again. Foster can drop the ball on a dime and is great at it. Let her stick the corners in and put their defence under pressure.

Vastly improved performance from the women today, defensively better, Barry back to her best and Van de Meer was brilliant too. Foster is amazing, she defends well and is so dangerous o the set pieces. Vosper did well. thought the midfield was stellar, Hasset and Wisneski controlled things well, was Knott's best game this season, maybe playing at AM is her better spot than CM. Robertson has to be the starting wing, and Clegg on the other side too. Thye both made a massive difference. Pritachard needs to be worried for mine, Lancaster looked like she would be the better option starting. Pritchard's first 70 minutes were horrid. No touch, no pass and no shot! Wat the fudge is she there for?

Yes bug bear of mine. Pritchard has been give so many opportunities but very rarely delivers any link up play. She is a big girl and has lots of energy. She has a decent shot on her but not a great first touch. A bit in the Wilkinson mould for me. But I agree time to give someone else a start up front.
Edwards saved our bacon today. Credit to her. I've been critical of her but other than the almost disaster touch in the first half she was good today. made some good saves.
What was up with Satchell and is Rolston injured again?
Going to be tough going forward with the Ferns v USA games coming up soon, outside a FIFA window. And already a bunch of injuries in this team that will be expected to release a a lot of players, not sure how we are going to manage this squad over January.  With the pressure of getting results and not finishing with the wooden spoon again.

Barry was immense today.
Pritchard the opposite.
Playing in Melbourne at 3pm in a 30 degree day in 5 days time before flying to Perth the following week it’s going to be a torrid fortnight

Replays showed very clearly that Vosper, VDM & Barry were pushing up but Foster was ball watching and held the striker on side.

Phoenix cant create any chances.
Dont value the ball enough when they get forward.

Credit to the keeper today, ive criticised her plenty before, but apart from nearly gifting a goal with her first (mis) touch, she was great. Shes a good shot stopper no doubt.

Barry is great, impresses me a lot.

We missed some midfielders,we did alright. Really enjoyed the game anyway.

Some A league clubs not releasing players for Ferns games against USA. Not surprising at all. Bunge currently injured anyway.
That will put more pressure on the Nix team. Away to Perth (Liz Antons club) 3 days before the first USA game.

https://keepup.com.au/news/understrength-new-zealand-for-us-matches

Will the UK teams WSL and SWFL release players?
Will we see some National league players given a chance. Jackson, O'Brien etc?
