I think Ferguson is a useful forward, but not sure she's what we need right now. She works hard, isn't afraid to drop deeper to receive the ball and is good physically and in the air. That header in the first half deserved to be a goal as well. If players like Jale and Main start scoring more regularly she's a useful player to support that, but right now when we are struggling to score goals a bit it's frustrating that our CF isn't more adept at that.

Great passing and pressing all match. For the amount of opportunities we should really have had more goals, but in hindsight that's all good - we were in control and scored enough to make sure it never got nervy.
Great to see this team getting stronger and stronger the more they play and get to know one another

I guess CFs will always be judged by their goal tally, but I'd argue that what we need most are players who make the team better so we get results, and Ferguson appears to be doing that. It was her positivity tonight that led to the send-off, which gave the Nix a numerical advantage and made scoring easier against a fairly ordinary replacement goalkeeper. Let's also remember the three losses at the start of the season. Ferguson didn't play in the first game and had limited minutes in the other two. She's started every game since then and the team have continued to improve. Anyway, great game tonight. My only gripe is Whinham's attempted knee-slide – what a shocker! I hope Temple has a drill planned.

I hope the team are celebrating the win, but agree with others that they need to be looking at the chances missed and working on that. Given our possession and chances we could/ should have been up by three in the first half.

Watching the highlights this morning Whinham’s goal really was a cracker, and it brought a smile to my face to see the Little Corner of Yellow visible in the background during her celebrations. Good on our Aussie-based fans for keeping up the support!
Cracking win that, greta to see goals scored in three very different ways. I still cant get my head around how surprised or shocked Whinam appears when she scores - needs to work on her knee slide too. We would have won that even without the red card pre-half time, looked the more attacking and had control of the early parts of the half regardless. Extra player helped of course. Gotta love the winning attitude from the team and cant be unhappy with 4th on the table at the half way mark (ish).
Awesome win but the girls really need to practice their goal celebration knee slides they looked like they are about to do some serious damage to themselves. LOL
What shows our gameplan is working a treat is we have the best defensive record in the league so far - even more impressive considering WU put 4 away against us in Round 1 so it's just six conceded in nine games since. And it hasn't even been done by being overly defensive or boring, in fact we have sought to be on the front foot and dominate in most games (only exceptions City and Victory away).image.png117.74 KB
Think the test going forward will be winning more regularly against decent teams, looking over that table we have: - 1 win, 1 draw and 1 losses vs the top three - 1 win and 3 losses vs the middle pack - 3 wins vs the bottom three
However - those 3 losses vs the middle park were our first 3 games, so hopefully when we play these teams again (and Mariners for the first time) we can improve our record and start to build a buffer to protect us if our form declines later in the season.
Whinham's smile after scoring matches that of Rufer's when he got that monkey off his back. I nominate her celebration for "Celebration of the Season" Award.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

We've sorted it big time at the back. Mccutcheon wasn't used right in the early games IMHO. Wall and Jaber have settled in, McMeekin and Kelly are great alternatives. Don't think we have the pointy end right yet...
Bloody quick turn around for the next game. Hope the girls are getting some rest as well as training. Kinda cool that Mack Barry isn't having to stand out this year with all her tackles and blocks. The whole defensive unit has been doing the job. Well done! Midfield is a great balance of strength, work rate and vision. Well done! Attacking unit is getting there. Much better linking up and hold up play. Pressing is a big plus. Some clinical finishes now happening too.

It made for a great post-match interview too. Obviously next time she scores we have to all chant "knee slide! knee slide!"
