Although Marco was a very good player in the A-League, I was surprised he was signed by a Bundesliga club. Not many players as physically lightweight as him succeed in Germany.
Wynton Rufer always said he should see how he goes in the German second tier first - but now he's struggling even there.
He's had a whole season out injured though and maybe eventually he can overcome the criticisms made of him above by the Furth coach if he gets fitter and sharper.

If I was Marco id ask to cancel my loan there, go back to Stuttgart and ask for a loan in the Netherlands or Switzerland.
Stutgart will want him playing in Germany. I imagine he will go somewhere else in contiental europe at the end of the season when I'm guessing his cotract runs out.

No doubt Marco has the talent to succeed, but I think this shows how hard it really is, for even the best of kiwi talent to make the jump from being a moisture farmer on tatooine to making an impact in big european leagues.
For the all whites to be competitive in the long term, I think NZF really needs to be helping players navigate these pathways to european leagues in a significant way.

I think that to use him as injury cover cause he may leave is just cutting off your nose to spite your face. If you are a coach, you want to get wins to stay employed. If Marco helps, you play him. This loan is going to backfire on Marco.

He was signed to play in a German 1st division team and depending on which coach they had, he was a vital cog or not playing at all which suggests that he was probably good for coming off the bench if the truth is somewhere in between. Now he has gone out on loan to get minutes and thats awesome but he has gone down a level and yet only getting 15mins a week. Judging by the translation above, it seems they don't intend to use him. How is this a good move for Marco? You would think dropping down a level, he should get a lot of playing time and if he was, that would be fantastic for him. But he is not.

I'm not sure Zwolle would want to sign him, but I agree that, should Marco not be playing 1st team football in the Bundesliga 2 by the Christmas break, he would be much better off going to a different club and try his luck elsewhere.
Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Denmark and perhaps Portugal (he speaks Spanish and that would perhaps helping pick up the language) and Holland are all viable options I reckon.
vfb would not be impressed by his present market price I imagine.
Think he should come back to the A-League for a year or two, personally.

Sydney, Perth, Melbourne City, Central Coast and us are the only A-League teams who could pick up Marco right now. We all have space for one more foreigner but a lot of teams would not have the cap space. It is all very well saying that the move to 2. Bundesliga was a failure but Marco probably had no choice in the matter. Furthermore if he fails in 2 Bundesliga then I think it is fair to say he would never make it for Sttutgart anyway.

I think there's been an unfortunate mistake with this loan deal. They were looking to sign someone to sit on the bench for long periods and they heard that Stuttgart had a player available for loan with a rock arse.
