Roar have been fined by the AFC for fans in Japan doing a 'having a whale of a time' banner. Roar's twitter account thought it funny enough at the time to RT but the club isn't happy with it now.

That's been NIPped in the bud then

What I find strange is they refer to reports from NZ but all the press reports in NZ are created from that article. I can't see any NZ report saying he is getting the job. I hope he does get it tho

Isn't this how speculation works? One 'source' quotes another, who then quotes the first, and presto, you've got a credible story. It's bizarrely circular sometimes.

Considering Riera himself floated the idea of AWs representation, I would think going to Brisbane would be contrary to that for residency requirements. He also mentioned his loyalty to the Phoenix in the face of financially better offers when he resigned. In my mind, and has been shown, he is the best DM in the comp. Mind you, if he got an out of this world offer..... I would guess he would now be one of our better paid players so upper 100s? (Pure guess as I have no clue whom gets what)

he only signed a 1 year deal I think. With a renewal if certain criteria were met. I think Ernie was worried he would get injured.

200k a year? No wonder why he is getting hired, that is dirt cheap for an A-League coach.

Brisbane Roar director of football Ken Stead has quit the A-League club after nearly six years of service. Widely seen as the kingmaker at the Roar following his role in the removal of former coach Mike Mulvey, the appointment of interim boss Frans Thijssen and the anticipated unveiling of Ramon Tribulietx, Stead will leave the club after their friendly against Spanish side Villareal on 3 June.

BRISBANE Roar will slash expenditure next season in a bid to reduce their annual losses by more than $1.8 million, according to comparative figures sent to potential investors by club chairman and Bakrie Group identity Chris Fong.

The Courier-Mail gained access to the document, which states the Roar are forecasting a loss of more than $2.25 million for the current financial year, which ends on June 30.

But the deposed A-League champions have predicted they can reduce their annual loss to a little more than $423,000 by the end of June next year.

The figures state that the Roar plan to reduce their spending by more than $2.28 million in the next financial year (July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016).

More than $920,000 is money they will save by not being in the 2016 AFC Champions League.

Fong on Thursday denied cuts to the football department and junior clinics despite numbers – and the departure of football director Ken Stead – suggesting otherwise.

According to the document, the Roar plan to:

● Cut spending on players’ and coaches’ salaries and employment by more than $565,000.

● Reduce expenses for the club’s A-League, W-League and National Youth League team by close to $730,000.

● Cut costs on junior clinics and programs by more than $120,000.

But Fong rejected claims of a reduction in football spending, and said the Roar would not be affected in terms of retaining players and attracting new talent.

“There are no cuts,” Fong said.

“Brisbane Roar FC will increase spending next season in areas related to football. The club always has, and always will, strive for the highest levels of success within each competition in which the Roar is involved.”

Fong also said there would be no cost cutting on junior clinics and programs.

“Community engagement and grassroots coaching is extremely important to Brisbane Roar FC and we place a very high value on our ongoing programs in these areas,” he said.

However, club owners the Bakrie Group remain committed to finding new investors for the Roar.

“The Bakrie Group has previously stated it believes the time is right to share the vision for the club’s future and it would consider offers to bring in a strategic partner with the same goals and values as Brisbane Roar FC,” Fong said.

The document also states that the Roar plan to reduce spending on membership, marketing and event expenses, as well as business management salaries and employment.

However, the figures also reveal increased match day, sponsorship and media expenditure.

Meanwhile, Ben Mannion has resigned as Football Queensland chief operating officer.

No wonder they are going for Ramon, some money saved right there.

He has a tough time I think, they have 4 import slots signed already so Ramon won't be able to bring many players in with him.

Sounds like it's a good thing we can't qualify for the AFC Champions League  ;-)

You'd think he'll give it a shot, the only reason he is probably getting this opportunity is because of the cost cutting.

It will be hard to make the step up from amateur to pro without first being an assistant, which Ramon clearly doesn't want to do.

He will always have a job at ACFC.

These aren't the circumstances in which you want to take a job. Still, if Brisbane are going to be cost cutting then they can't complain about poor results. It may give him some time to build a team. I guess if your chance comes you just have to take it. You can't afford to wait around for a better chance which might never come.

Four ninths of Aussie clubs in financial strife? How timely would it be for ACFC, with appropriate financial backing, to make a case for inclusion? Two strong nz clubs in the league would provide more security for both. Couldn't Central United just represent at CWC? Am I dreaming?

What a crack up. Financial issues at the Roar and they have a 20 year license. What a Feekin Joke. FFA is a joke. how many AUISSIE clubs have gone belly up. and yet the Pheonix still trudge along trying to build the game in NZ. FFA is becoming a mini FIFA

This is actually probably a good thing for us in terms of negotiating the license extension. Financial stability is becoming a rare commodity in the comp and these stories are presumably not what the FFA want associated with the A League brand. We should ask them how much their TV revenue would drop if they had a 9 or 8 team competition again
